Chapter One
It was just another quiet night in Power City. That’s what the rider thought at least as he rode his motorcycle down the street. It had been weeks since the last monster attack and he was still no closer to finding out who had ordered it. The monsters tended to want to fight instead of talk and of course he Destroyed them before they could do any damage.
It was weird. The monsters seemed to attack at random and in completely different places. The rider knew that there was something he was missing but it was hard to figure out. He couldn’t go to anyone else for help. Not with how random the monster attacks were. It was very different from what had happened in Andros City or Lockwood where the monsters had been specific with their attacks.
The rider stopped at a red light. He looked at the vehicle to his right. The Mustang reminded him of his old friend’s car. He shook his head and looked ahead as the light turned green. He didn’t have time to think about the past. He revved his motorcycle up and rode away.
Inside a parking garage, a security guard leaned back in his seat. With how late it was, he had a feeling that it was going to be a very boring night shift. He couldn’t believe that he had gotten stuck with the most boring shift. It was almost as if his co-workers wanted to make sure he had a boring life.
The security guard looked at the security cameras. The only ones walking around the parking garage were a woman and her two kids. He shook his head. There was no way the three were a threat. He reached over to his comic book and grabbed it, wishing that something exciting would happen.
“I’m tired.” The little boy whined as he looked at his mom. “Are we going home?”
“Yes.” The woman replied. She was starting to regret letting her ex keep their kids longer than he was supposed to. Now she was going to have two whiny kids all the way home.
Hearing something move behind them, the woman looked over her shoulder. She didn’t see anyone. Just a mostly empty parking lot. She shook her head. It was probably just that security guard she had seen when parking her car. She looked at her car as the three of them approached it.
Behind her, four monsters came out of the shadows. They all looked the same from their red and black monstrous armor-like skin to their four sharp wings. They all looked at each other before they looked at the shadows that they had come out of. There was a figure standing there. It didn’t even look human. The figure pointed at the three humans before it vanished.
The four monsters slowly crept up on the three. They knew that they had to be quick before the rider showed up. Three of them grabbed the mother and her two kids, causing the kids to scream.
The rider looked around as he sensed a disturbance. So the monsters were on the move. “Knights.” He said.
A black glow appeared around his body and his motorcycle. His clothes changed into a black bodysuit and dark silver armor, gauntlets and belt appeared on him. His helmet’s visor turned into a silver dragon head visor. A dark silver blade appeared attached to his belt. On it was a black card slot. On the front of his belt, a black card case with a silver dragon head appeared.
The rider revved his motorcycle as it transformed into a dark silver motorcycle. He had to get to the disturbance before it was too late.
The security guard fell over with his chair as he heard more screaming. He stood up and looked at the security cameras. To his surprise and horror, there were monsters dragging the woman and her kids toward the shadows.
The security guard picked up his phone. He wasn’t sure who to call to deal with the monsters. His supervisors had never had a drill for that.
Hearing a motorcycle, the security guard looked at the entrance to the parking lot. He was more than prepared to stop whoever it was while he figured out who to call. He walked over to the entrance to his office. To his surprise, he saw a rider in a strange outfit ride past him and up the ramp.
Knowing that he would get in trouble if he didn’t do anything about the disturbance, the security guard ran after the rider.
The woman screamed again as she saw her kids getting dragged to the shadows. “Someone help!” She cried. Where was that security guard? He was supposed to be keeping the parking garage safe. She didn’t know how he could have missed the monsters. It was impossible.
The monsters all looked at each other as they heard a motorcycle. One of them grunted and looked at the shadows. They weren’t close enough to vanish into. It grunted again and several more monsters that looked like it came out, followed by a warrior.
This warrior was in a black body suit, dark blue chest armor, gauntlets, boots and belt. His visor was in the shape of a lion’s mane. He had a dark blue staff with a lion’s head on top. Right below the lion’s head was a card slot. On the front of his dark blue belt was a dark blue card case. On the front was a black lion head.
The warrior saw the rider appear. “Knight Onyx.” The warrior said before he looked at the extra monsters. “Keep him at bay.” He ordered before he looked at the three monsters that had the humans. “Get them into the shadows.” He raised his staff, determined to fight the rider if needed.
Knight Onyx stopped his motorcycle and looked at the monsters. He removed his sword from his belt and opened the card slot on it. He pulled a card from his card case and slid it into the card slot. He closed the card slot. A large black metallic dragon appeared behind him and roared before it transformed into a long black lance.
Knight Onyx grabbed the lance and revved his motorcycle. He had to make this quick if he was to save the woman and her two kids. He drove through the monsters, slicing at them, causing them to explode.
The warrior opened his card slot and pulled a card from his card case. He slid the card into the card slot and closed it. A long dark blue sword appeared in his free hand. “Not today Knight Onyx.” He said before he jumped over the last monsters. He slashed at Knight Onyx, causing the rider to fall off of his motorcycle.
Knight Onyx stood up and raised his lance. “You’re not taking them into the shadows.” He told the dark warrior. He hadn’t been expecting the dark warrior in Power City but he realized that he should have.
The dark warrior laughed. “Who’s going to stop us, you?” He asked. “Knight Onyx, you’re outnumbered.” He looked over his shoulder as the monsters dragged the woman and her kids into the shadows. He watched them vanish. “You’re on your own and you’ll never stop him.” With that, the dark warrior ran into the shadows and vanished.
Knight Onyx walked over to his motorcycle. He knew that the fight was over for the time being. Besides, he had found out more information just from that one encounter than he had since he had first seen the monsters. He shook his head. He had to get the woman and her kids back.
“Power down.” Knight Onyx said. He turned back into his rider form and his motorcycle returned to normal.
“What did I miss?” The security guard asked as he finally reached the floor. He looked around. There was no sign of the woman, her kids, the weird biker guy or the monsters. He looked at the rider. “Where did they all go?”
The rider looked at the security guard. “They’re not here right now.” He replied. He didn’t have time to talk to the security guard. If the monsters were really dragging people into the shadows, no one was safe.
“Hold on, I need you to talk to the police when they arrive.” The security guard said. He wasn’t sure when the rider had gotten there but he had to have seen something.
The rider looked at the security guard. “I don’t have to do anything.” He said. He looked at the security cameras. He knew he had to take care of the security footage before he left.
The rider got onto his motorcycle and quickly rode down the ramp, leaving the security guard running after him. He smirked under his helmet and stopped by the security office. He parked his motorcycle and went inside. Seeing the security screens, he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small magnet.
“Time for you to do your magic.” The rider told the magnet. He placed the magnet against one of the screens. All of the screens shut down before they started smoking.
Satisfied that the security guard would have nothing to prove his story, the rider got back onto his motorcycle and quickly rode away.
