Chapter 1: Walked into the Wrong Restroom
inscription:
I love you enough to tolerate your disappearance.
——Shen Yu
The sky was dark and silvery.
It rained during the day, and a thin layer of fog still filled the city. The fog disappeared from all directions silently like a ghost, disappearing into the criss-crossing urban skeleton.
The time on the dial hanging in the interrogation room read 7:50 p.m., and the second hand moved frame by frame.
There is a window inside, with blinds blocking the view of the hall outside.
"Snapped......!"
A USB flash drive was slammed on the table by a tall and slender figure in the interrogation room.
She put her hands on the table and tied her long hair into a knot. Her delicate and cold face was full of anger, as if she was trying to control her emotions that were on the verge of losing control.
Gu Yan held back his anger and gritted his teeth and said:
"He's going to attack again in ten minutes. You've killed an innocent person and now a second person is going to be killed before you can tell her where she is. You're crazy!
They would record the abuse as they killed the victim and send the USB drive to the victim's parents the next day.
In front of her sat a handcuffed middle-aged man. This interrogation has lasted for two days and two nights, and everyone is very tired. However, when faced with the insult from the criminal psychology expert, he not only did not get angry, but instead curved the corners of his mouth. Lift from one side.
Ridicule, contempt, pride.
He glanced at the time and wrote calmly:
"It's no use scolding me. It's too late for you to leave now.
Gu Yan took a deep breath. She went to the blinds and drew the curtains.
Outside the window is the police station lobby. From this angle, you can see the dark and turbulent night sky outside the police station window.
Families of the victims sat outside and cried. Their family members were about to be killed, but there was nothing they could do. The parents cried in pain.
The man sitting in the interrogation room smiled.
As the bell rang, the time on the dial in the interrogation room also reached eight o'clock.
Gu Yan clenched her fists tightly, and a moment later, her cell phone rang, and she quickly answered it, but after not knowing what was said, her face turned pale.
She hung up the phone, but her hands were still stiff. The parents of the victims in the police station hall seemed to have received some news, and they cried hoarsely. The mother finally cried until she passed out.
This scene was witnessed by the man in the interrogation room, and his expression was almost one of enjoyment.
At this moment, Gu Yan seemed to be unable to bear the punch on his face anymore, and police rushed in from outside the door to start a fight.
After the man was punched hard, he looked up at Gu Yan, who was out of control, and couldn't help but laugh lowly:
"How dare you take action? It seems I need to find my lawyer."
Speaking of this, he gradually suppressed his smile, quenched a mouthful of bloody saliva on the ground, and said gloomily:
"We started at the reservoir this time. I don't know where it will be next time. Anyway, we will continue -"
However, before he could finish his words, he saw Gu Yan going out without looking back and shouting: "Quick, reservoir, the captured victim is in the reservoir!"
Suddenly, countless police officers came out, and the crying parents outside the door were also helped up.
But at this time, the man sitting on the chair was stunned and had not yet reacted.
wait wait wait--!
How is this going! Hasn't the time already come? Haven't people been killed?
But then, a scene that shocked him happened. As the police and others went out, the "dark night sky" at the window outside the door suddenly moved. A 4D night view screen was removed, and suddenly a dazzling golden light came from The outside is projected in.
It was five o'clock in the evening, sunset.
Where would it be eight o'clock in the evening!
At this moment, no matter how hard he reacted, the time on the wall and the sky outside were all fake! These two days and nights were all their acting!
Surprised, shocked, disbelieving, and finally angry and resentful, he cursed fiercely, and his handcuffed hands made a violent struggle sound in anger.
When Gu Yan came in again, he still looked as angry as before.
With a calm face, she looked at him over and over again while talking on the phone and asked:
"There are two reservoirs in the south and north of Anseong. Which reservoir are the people at?"
The man's eyes were wide open and he was breathing heavily as he stared at her. However, Gu Yan's expression did not waver at all as he continued: "Southern Reservoir?"
Seeing the angry look on his face, Gu Yan raised his chin slightly and confirmed: "It's the northern reservoir."
Sure enough, the man's pupils were dilated, his arms were close to his legs, and his fingers were raised. This was a sign of anger, nervousness and uneasiness.
Gu Yan had a clear view, and in front of the man, he said condescendingly on the phone: "I'm sure, it's at the northern reservoir."
After saying that, she stopped looking at the man, turned around and left, while the man behind her sat slumped in a chair.
Two hours later, at the reservoir in the north of Anseong, the gangster was caught on the spot as he drove there and successfully rescued an unconscious woman locked in the trunk.
After Gu Yan learned the news, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
At this time, she was going to the bathroom to wash her face and wake up. In order to find the victim, she didn't sleep much for two days. After all, the criminal was cunning and planned the entire interrogation process from the beginning.
The lights in the direction of the bathroom in the corridor were dim. She walked inside and saw a figure with short hair coming out of the bathroom on the left. She subconsciously went directly to the bathroom on the right.
However, as soon as she entered the door and looked up, she was stunned.
A row of urinals stood against the wall, and a slender figure stood there slightly lazily, with his chin slightly raised and a cigarette dangling between his lips and teeth.
Under the dim light of evening outside the window, he was wearing a black shirt, with two collars casually unbuttoned, his neck winding down, and his muscles and bones were smooth and white.
Gu Yan's head buzzed, and his mind was like an old TV set full of snowflakes.
Did she go into the wrong toilet?
"Have you seen enough?"

Gu Yan quickly turned and left, but the languid and slender peach blossom eyes of that man lingered in her mind for a moment.
Good thing no one else saw that.
Otherwise, she’d be dubbed a thug despite her lifetime of reputation.
When she came out of the station, it was already nine o’clock in the evening, and it was raining again.
Gu Yan stood under the eaves, thinking about how to get to the parking lot, when a voice sounded behind her: “Dr. Gu, let me take you to get your car.”
She turned around and saw a spirited young policewoman with short hair and bright eyes, full of admiration as she looked at her.
It was the same woman who had come out of the women’s restroom earlier.
In an instant, Gu Yan understood. She smiled lightly, “Well, thank you then.”
Gu Yan drove a jeep down from the overpass, merging into the bustling traffic below. Skyscrapers stood on both sides, neon lights flashing in the city, and the lights of countless homes stretched endlessly, connecting with the night sky.
Gu Yan had a Bluetooth earpiece in her left ear, listening to her best friend complain about her one-night stand from last night.
She drove with a cold and exquisite face, approaching an intersection ahead, and turned the steering wheel to head towards the southeast old street.
After the other side finished speaking, she lazily replied, “What, getting serious over those flimsy relationships? Can’t you handle something so trivial?”
Unaware listeners might think she was advising her friend to be more open-minded, but little did they know—
The voice of the woman on the other end of the phone came again: “Exactly! These younger guys nowadays are so clueless. If I were faithful, what trouble could he possibly cause? But if he keeps bothering me, what should I do?”
The rain intensified, and there was a blockage ahead due to a clogged drainpipe being repaired, causing serious traffic congestion. Many drivers lowered their windows and shouted, honking their horns continuously to hurry things along.
Gu Yan was stuck in traffic, feeling a bit irritated. She lost her patience, “Just tell him straight up. Before checking out, you only love him, but after checking out, it’s not guaranteed.”
After hanging up the phone, Gu Yan muttered to herself. How could this butterfly who fluttered in the grass five days a week still get tangled up with a younger guy?
Water was spreading from the ground in the distance, making it impossible to leave for a while, so Gu Yan didn’t rush. She took out a green olive from the car’s storage compartment, put it in her mouth, and instantly tasted the bitter taste, stimulating her taste buds.
The person she had just called was her college roommate and best friend, Lin Zi, a rich second-generation who looked prim and proper in the hospital during the day and slept with handsome guys in nightclubs at night. She had a firm grasp on this balance.
Now, Lin Zi had sent another location message:
“Darling, come on over. It’s rare for the weekend, let’s have some fun together. If you don’t come, I’ll look down on you.”
Gu Yan glanced at it lightly, seeing it was another nightclub location. She replied directly:
“No, I’ll look down on myself if I come. Besides, I still have work to finish.”
Lin Zi got angry:
The drain ahead cleared, and Gu Yan watched as the water, which had risen to half a wheel, visibly decreased at a rapid pace, rushing forward with a gushing flow.
Gu Yan started the car and headed towards the old city, preparing to return to her studio.
She was a criminal psychologist with her own practice, working in cooperation with the police.
As the night deepened and the rain intensified, the wipers continued to swipe up and down the windshield.
The rearview mirror repeatedly flicked blurry images behind her, the streets of the old city crisscrossing like a chessboard, with alleyways and streets intertwining.
Driving familiarly, Gu Yan recalled Lin Zi’s words earlier, but her mind couldn’t help but conjure up a certain figure.
The man from the restroom before, tall and slender, though appearing somewhat lazy, seemed to have a good figure, broad shoulders and long legs.
At that moment, a car suddenly sped up from behind.
Gu Yan frowned, and her gaze swept over to the figure in the front passenger seat of the car.
He lowered the window, his silhouette faint in the hazy rain, leaning against the seat back, arm resting on the window, fingers holding a cigarette, flickering in the dim light.
It’s him…!? Gu Yan recognized him at a glance.
It was the man she had encountered in the restroom.
From this angle, she could see his sharp jawline, exquisite profile, and striking features.
The man in the passenger seat of the car just sat there lazily, seemingly chatting with the driver. The corner of his lips lifted, and there was a hint of a smile in his slender brows and eyes.
Although he was smiling, there was a hint of indifference and roguishness, giving off an air of melancholy.
Just as Gu Yan was preparing to overtake, she noticed his gaze sweeping over.
His eyes were long and narrow, and she couldn’t see the expression in them through the rain.
All she could see was him taking a deep drag of his cigarette, the smoke swirling in his lungs before dissipating into the air, the streetlights casting a halo on the smoke.
Just as Gu Yan wasn’t sure if he had recognized her, she suddenly saw him flicking away the cigarette ash between his fingertips, lips curling in a mocking smile.
He withdrew his gaze, and the car quickly passed her.
He saw her!
Gu Yan clenched her teeth slightly, she was sure of it.
As an experienced driver, she absolutely wouldn’t allow herself to be overtaken, let alone provoked.
Gu Yan’s exquisite and cold features exuded a hint of sharpness as she prepared to accelerate past him.
The old city was crowded with vehicles, and the streets were bustling with traffic, especially with the rain making driving even more difficult.
Just as she was about to catch up and overtake, unexpectedly, an unforeseen scene occurred…!
A person riding a motorcycle ahead suddenly slipped and fell from the bike, rolling on the ground several times. Gu Yan saw this scene and instinctively turned the steering wheel to the left…!
“Squeak—!”
A sharp sound of tires rubbing against the asphalt, splashing water everywhere.
In the bustling street, after a person fell from the motorcycle, a jeep directly blocked the vehicle in front of his body, preventing him from being crushed by the car behind.
But at that moment, another person who was driving while texting came from behind. Gu Yan was dazzled by a glaring light, and before she could even avoid it, she heard a loud noise next to her ear.
“Bang—!”

too many errors to read.
Hi Jin,
I just finished reading your story “Girl Among Wolves” and I loved it so much. Your writing is amazing, and I kept thinking how cool it would look as a comic.
I really loved the opening scene in Chapter One, when Gu Yan walks into the wrong restroom and encounters Shen Yu. The tension and surprise in that moment would translate beautifully into comic panels. Later, when Gu Yan is temporarily in a wheelchair and recruits a follower, the dynamics between her and Shen Yu add depth to the story. Their interactions, especially when Shen Yu follows her and apologizes with a smile, create a compelling narrative that would be ideal for a comic adaptation.
I’m a commissioned artist, and I’d love to draw your story into a comic/manga. No pressure though, I just think your work would look awesome in comic form.
