Chapter 1: Parents’s loss
Once there was a girl named Alaya. She was fourteen years old. She had a southern accent since she was from Alabama. She had thick blonde hair, blue eyes, and she was wearing a olive green shirt, with a black skirt. She found it weird that her parents did not have a accent but she did not think much of it. Her and her family were based in the US. Her mom’s name was Brooke and her dad’s name was Joe. Alaya’s dad was in the US army and would only come home thrice a year, and her mother was a doctor in St. Jude Children’s hospital. They were not very rich, and Alaya was an only child. Alaya was thrilled to start her first year of high school.
It was the night of her first day of high school and she woke up at three in the morning because she wanted more time to get ready. Her mom, Brooke, woke up because of the noise Alaya was making, and went to meet Alaya. Alaya said to her mom, “Mom, I’m thrilled to start my first day of high school.” Her mom said to her, “I know you are, I mean you are literally jumping on and off the walls, and you also woke me up a whole hour earlier because of you making so much noise.” Alaya replied, “Sorry, Mom. I just don’t want to miss a minute of high school so that’s why I was making so much noise.” Her mom just laughed and left.
Alaya went downstairs to eat breakfast but when she went down, she found her Mother laying on the floor with police officers surrounding her. Alaya’s heart sank when the police officers took her mom away. She tried to call her dad to maybe have a chance to bail her mom out of jail but… her dad would not pick up and she got worried. They lived in a very dangerous neighbourhood and now she was home alone without her parents. She ran out of options so she went to her aunt and uncle’s place with the little bit of money she had. Alaya took a long time to reach their house, and by the time she finally made it, it was snowing outside. So, Alaya had buckets full of snow on her head. She rang the doorbell and out came a huge man with a short, petit woman, Uncle Jack and Aunt Rachel. Alaya mustered up the courage to say, “Hi, Aunt. Mom got arrested and dad is not picking up so I have no idea what I should do. Can I live here for a couple of months?” Her aunt and uncle said “Yes but on one condition. The condition is that you will clean the house and you will not go anywhere after school. Oh, yes and also you will have to pay for your school. I will not pay for your education. Not one penny.’’
Obviously, Alaya declined the offer because there is no way she was going to let her aunt control her life! Alaya said to herself “Now what will I do? I have no place to stay and no money or food.’’ “I don’t know what I will do now.’’ Alaya then went to a homeless shelter since she had no place to stay. She had to sleep on a bed that was as solid as wood and the blanket had stains on it. There was cockroaches, flys and even a mouse. She was sleeping in a corner and when she was about to go to sleep, she saw a girl her age that had lost her parents in a car accident three years ago. Alaya was speechless, she felt sorry for the girl and offered to be her friend since she doesn’t have any friends. She was excited to finally make a friend, but little did she know this was gonna soon turn into a problem. Turns out, that girl was from her old school back in 2020 that she used to bully. The girl’s name was Sarah and she did not know that it was Alaya who used to bully her. That night Alaya could not sleep thinking about Sarah. Alaya felt guilty so she decided that she would wake up at 3am and leave the homeless shelter. She said to herself “I am the worst human so I will try my best to be a nice and fun person to hang out with, but before I do that I have to fix the problem on where I will stay, get money, and find food.”
Alaya soon found a grocery store so she went in and asked a lady of they could give her some money to buy some food. She agreed and so the kind lady gave her $100 so she could find a place to stay and to also get food. After Alaya ate she went to find a motel to live in. She found one that was for $4 a night so she took it. When she went in her jaw dropped! It was the prettiest motel she had ever been to. Turns out this was the motel of the kind lady who helped her and gave her food. Alaya was super excited, but then she got a phone call that was soon going to turn her life upside down. Her mom had called her from jail and told her that she was not going to come out until 2073 and that her dad had died in the middle of a war. She hysterically cried for 5 days thinking about what her life had become. She accepted that her parents were gone.
