Chapter 1

Footsteps passed him as he hid in one of the few tents still standing. He wondered why the tents were in good shape. The camp was supposed to be, but maybe it wasn’t abandoned as he thought. He glanced around the corner, still hiding in one of the tents. He didn’t recognize the people outside. They could be from his faction, but he didn’t risk it. He didn’t want to get involved in a fight right now. And even if they were from his faction, would they even recognize him? He was much younger than when the time Calamity raided their camp. He ducked lower behind the debris of a desk as they walked past. He tried to slow and quiet his breathing as they passed, feeling he was breathing too loud. Thankfully, they never checked his tent and he sighed with relief. He wanted to rebuild his old home, but he might have to rethink if they continue to stay. As he was leaving his tent, he heard yelling in the clearing causing him to panic and return inside, but after gaining the courage once more, he peaked around outside seeing no one around. Confused, he crept behind the tents trying to find what he heard. Hiding behind one of the tents, he saw around seeing the two figures. Even with a clear sight, he still couldn’t remember them and guessed they weren’t from his Camp. He looked around for somewhere closer to hide seeing another surviving tent a little ways ahead. He put his foot forward about to run to it but hesitated seeing someone leave. Narrowing his eyes, he noticed it was Blade. Of course, he’d be here. I’m not going back to the Outsiders or Vivir. I don’t wanna see anyone right now! He noticed Storm beside him and a smaller figure hiding behind them. They brought Navy too. He sighed. He teleported closer and teleported again to the same tent he saw Blade leave.

“It was you who betrayed me, you left me to die, what choice did I have?” He heard Blade yell. Maybe they were from here, but would they recognize me? I don’t recognize them. He debated running in there hoping to stop a potential fight, but he also didn’t wish for Blade to see him and try to convince him to come back. I’ll intervene when I need to. I’m not gonna reveal myself and nothing happens.

“What did Calamity tell you wolf?” They asked, pointing toward Storm, “We never struck first, Calamity learned we were protecting a Power and killed our people. Taking him away was the least we could do to make him pay for his crimes,” And Calamity came back for Blade. All of this could have been avoided if they didn’t strike back. My mentor could still be alive. This camp could still be standing if we didn’t strike back and kept to ourselves!

“Navy, keep an eye out for any more,” Blade ordered back to Navy, holding his sword and using his power to grab and trip the people from his camp. Neon stood up, about to intervene, but held himself back. He hated watching his friends fight while he hid, but he didn’t wanna blow his cover. He continued watching the fight as Storm shot multiple firey blasts with his power. Each one missed creating a wall of fire behind them that eventually consumed the camp. So much for rebuilding. He stood up about to teleport away when he heard someone behind him.

“Dad?” Navy started.

“Say nothing,” He ordered. He quickly teleported away, followed by his speed power hoping Navy wouldn’t blow his cover. He watched from a distance as his old home was engulfed in flames. Maybe I should go back and make sure they got out. They don’t have speed and teleportation like me. Hoping his friends were alright, he ran back into the camp and the fire continued forming a wall around the camp. He would have to be quick to escape once more, or he better hope he could teleport through fire. He quickly ran around the camp not seeing them anywhere. Good, they must have gotten out. Dark smoke filled the clearing as Neon desperately searched for an escape. Why did I come back in here? Combined with teleporting he sprinted around trying to escape the dark smoke that he tried not to breathe. His power became weaker with every cough till he couldn’t even teleport or run anymore. “Help-” His voice was hoarse, unable to speak much more. At least I can die in the same place my family died. I can die alongside them almost.
