Chapter 1
21 years ago~Jocelyn’s POV
“Push Jocelynn, I can see the head!” Eleanor persisted. I gritted my teeth together and pushed. I scream in agony feeling as though every inch of my body has been submerged in fire and is splitting into two. “Almost there my queen, just a few more pushes.” Eleanor winces as I give her a death glare. I’m the one in unimaginable pain pushing with all the strength I can muster.
“I’m doing the best I can Eleanor. I only have so much strength, just get her out. Axel will go looking for me any minute now!” I snapped at her and not long after the feeling of guilt washed over me. She is my best friend and she is just trying to help the best she can. Its just me and her, she is panicing just as much as I am. “I’m sorry Eleanor, I didnt mean to snap, I’m in so much pain. I can’t take it!” Eleanor smiled and gave my hand a squeeze. The comfort she gave me, gave me the courage I needed to push like I never have before. Soon after, I had brought my beautiful daughter into this world.
“Let me see her, I have to get back soon. Heal me please Eleanor.” As I held my daughter in my arms, I remembered what laid ahead now that I have done what I was meant to do. As tears streamed down my face, not even Eleanor’s powers could take the pain from my heart. I would have to send my babygirl away.
This was her first hello and her last goodbye. Today was the day her and her husband would die. I have known this day would come for nine months now. Since the night me and my husband were wed and I became queen. And I have come to terms with that. For my ancestor, Marianne Conley, the one and only blue flame weilder known, the Dark Queen, came to me in a vision while I slept in my husbands arms for the first time, and showed me the future. Today is the day I leave this world. I know my babygirl will be okay, for she is the Chosen One.
I was exhausted, consumating my marriage and reign as queen has drained my energy. As I laid in bed with the love of my life, I felt at peace in his arms. I couldn’t wait to spend every moment with Axel, and have our happy ending, with the most perfect versions of us running around playing in the garden. I smiled to myself, letting my eyes close as sleep consumed me.
After what felt like forever, I opened my eyes to a field of the most heavenly flowers. I’ve never seen so many colors at once. I felt a sense of euphoria wash over me as I ran through the field, letting my fingertips graze the flowers surrounding me.closing my eyes I breathed in the fresh air stretching my arms out. I could stay here forever.
I felt what seemed like a hand grab my arm, but instead of comfort it came with a searing pain. My eyes flew open and I screamed as I was met with the most piecing blue eyes I’ve ever gazed in. Fire in the shade of blue looked into mine. Her eyes reminded me of mine, except instead if blue mine were red. The woman stepped back and gave me a smile.
“Jocelyn, my blood, do not be afraid. I do not wish you harm. I am Marianne, I brought you here, to the spirit realm, to deliver a message. You carry my legacy, the Chosen One. You must keep her safe. The fate of the world rest in your womb.” Her booming voice carried so much power, so much authority. It was overwhelming. My legs gave out and I fell to my knees.
“I don’t understand, what do you mean? I must be going crazy. This cannot be real! I need to wake up!” I was hysterical. This woman, she scared me. I must be going crazy. It must be a nightmare. I am not pregnant, and thats not Marianne, she doesnt look like the stories I have heard. This woman is beautiful and gentle, her power is suffocatin, but that cant be the Dark Queen. The Dark Queen weilded blue fire and killed thousands for not bending the knee and pledging loyalty. She wanted to rule over the four kingdoms, over all the elements, and she killed many innocent people to do it. The eyes looking back into mine, were not the eyes of a monster.
“My child, this is very much real, I need you to keep her safe. It is fate, and fate will be as it should. You will deliver the Chosen One nine months from now. The witch, Eleanor, will get the same message, as I need you both for this. This is your purpose, and its not fair for your life to be snatched from your hands, but this is how it is meant to happen.” Marianne pulled me into a hug and i wrapped my arms around her, finding a comfort I’ve only felt from my mother. I felt safe and my heart was telling me to trust her. “I’m sorry Jocelyn, but for the Chosen One to come into the world, havoc will follow and things will not be the same. The day you birth the Chosen One, you and Axel will die, and everything you built with you. Now let me show you.” She smiled sadly as she wiped away my tears, her eyes glazed over, and she showed me the future.
End of memory
“Her name is Amarante Conley, my precious flower. Whose future deeds shall never fade.” I gazed into piercing blue eyes that swirled with blue fire. Mariannes eyes. I looked up at Eleanor, who had tears in her eyes. She indeed had gotten the same message from Marianne, and she has been with me till the very end. I couldn’t have asked for a better friend. She bowed to me one last time, “ Yes my queen, it shall be.”
“Eleanor, my sister, my best friend, I have never in my life met another as good as you. I have never seen you as a servant, you’re everything to me, you and Axel and now Amarante are the ones most precious to my heart. I will remember our bond even in the afterlife. And I hope to meet you in my next. Even if you are immortal,” we both laughed, Eleanor came from the first line of witches who were blessed with imortality. The only know weapon to kill them is blue fire, which Amarante was blessed with. “Be strong my friend, for this is not the end, its a long journey. May uou recognize my soul, wherever it may go. I ask of you one last thing. Please keep Amarante safe, raise and love her as your own, and teach her everything she needs to know. Please I beg of you.” Looking into my dear friends eyes, ny tears flowed, staining my face.
Eleanor took my hand and smiled. “It would be an honor Jocelyn. Marianne asked me of the same and I made an oath to protect the Chosen one. My purpose is to be the Chosen Ones protector. And so it shall be, with your blessing. I hope to find your soul again, I love you Jocelyn.” We shared an embrace crying into each other as Amarante gazed up at us with a twinkle in her eyes. “I left her a letter and some things, they are under the floorboard in the stables. Tell her the truth at 21, let her live her life as normal as fate will let her. I love you Eleanor, stay strong.”
Gazing down at Amarante I felt strength awaken in me. I had to see my purpose through so she can complete the prophecy. “ My precious flower, I will always love you. May you bring good and change to this cruel shallow world. Be strong and be wise and don’t lose yourself to the darkness. I may not be here to see it, but I have seen the future. And I am the luckiest mother alive. May I find your soul again.” I kissed her forehead for the first and last time, and placed her in Eleanor’s arms and gave them both one last smile and walked to the door. As my hand reached for the doornob, Amarante cried out and I paused. I wanted to turn around so bad and run away eith her and Eleanor and live a full life. But I knew I couldn’t. I mustered up all the strength I had left and walked out the room. Amarante’s cries followed me down the halls, and I felt my heart shatter completely. This is what I have to do. I wiped my tears and held my head high, walking to meet my fate so my daughter will change the world. And I’d do it again.
