Introduction
The more I dwell on my actions, the more I see how delusional I was to think he would reciprocate my feelings. It was a bold move for me to even try to engage in a conversation with him. However, in the grand scheme of things, I am just another face in the crowd, while he is the center of attention. Although I know my chances are slim, I find comfort in admiring him from afar, content with the unrequited love I hold in my heart.
Amidst the bustling crowd, his presence commanded my attention. As he sauntered past, his nonchalant ‘wassup’ pierced through the cacophony, echoing through my thoughts. Instinctively, I reciprocated with a cheerful ‘hey,’ my smile lingering long after he disappeared from my sight. It was a departure from my usual reserved demeanor, but the undeniable allure that emanated from him had me ensnared like so many others.
In the past, I had dismissed such fleeting encounters, but this time was different. The more I allowed my gaze to linger on his chiseled features and the enigmatic spark in his eyes, the more I found myself drawn into his orbit. His effortless charm and magnetic presence had me questioning my previous indifference. I realized that I, too, had succumbed to the same irresistible attraction that had captivated countless others.
Getting ready for the work day, I do all my necessary sanitary routines. It's not like it's a long work day, but it feels like I'm dreading for a 12-hour shift. The customers can be a aggy, and the work load feels like you're working in an Amazon warehouse. It's a decent job, but it could be better if they raised our pay by three dollars. I got in my car and proceeded to drive to work on this very boring Wednesday evening. My uniform consist of black slacks, white button-down shirt, dress shoes, a red tie, and black sweater or jacket. We have matching uniforms from the job that we did not have to pay for. Each of our jackets have our airline printed at the top right corner of the jacket in bright red.
Once I made it to the garage of my job, I put my ID on and contemplated on going to work. Do I really need the money? Seriously.
I stepped out of the car and locked my doors. I looked to left and I see him talking to another co-worker. His beautiful, brown skin and the sunlight combined well with each other. He was tall and skinny, but had some muscular arms. He had a couple tattoos on his arms, but he could have more in other places. The way is diamond face and sharp cheek bones ombre'd into his beard sent me. His striking smile finished everything off, adding that extra charm to his appearance. They call him, Aaron.
Aaron is an operational manager for ramp. Not going to lie, ramp are one of the hardest working employees in the airport to be exact. If a flight is late, they get no sleep! There's barely any people to help with tasks because it 'such a hard job'. Whatever the case is, he's manageable with his job and so am I. I take the trail to the airport entrance and stop by to get a quick snack before I head upstairs to clock in.
"Good morning," the employee greeted.
"Good morning. How are you?"
"I'm doing good. Is this all for you?"
"Yes,"
"$3.25,"
I paid for my food and went upstairs to clock in. I wonder what bullshit we gone deal with today. Customers refusing to cooperate, the constant back and forth, the entitlement from non-americans? What is the day going to look like?
"Hey, Yuna," my co-worker, Satire, greeted.
"Hey,"
"I was at this small party yesterday night and I'm still recovering from it,"
"What did you do"
"Drink," she giggled. "But, I promise it wasn't much,"
"I mean, if you're just now recovering, I think you had quite the taste, right?"
"No. I was up all night and all morning. I was almost late to work. Thank God for my dog for barking,"
"Right,"
"Is Tanya here?"
"Yes, she's here. I just saw her downstairs. She should be coming up soon. We have 136 passengers tonight. All seats are taken and we're taking carry-on bags," I stated.
"She told you?"
"She texted it in the chat. Did you look?"
"I didn't. My phone is on DND,"
"Of course. Did you watch Truth Hurts?"
"Yes! I finished the episode the other day and it was so good! I feel like Jennifer is the killer,"
"Really? I think it's Kylie. She's been acting way too suspicious for my liking,"
As we walk to our station, we get on a computer and log in to get customers up and going. Tanya, our supervisor, had arrived and so did our other co-worker, Mark. We all get along for the most part, and our bond is solid. Sometimes, we have our days, but we are indeed the a funny pair to work with.
"Looks like we have 85 bags," Mark said.
"We're taking the last two zones. It's a full flight today and there will be no and, ifs, or buts about it," Tanya stressed.
"I figured. We have one oversize,"
"Aaron can come and get it, but if he don't, we gotta take it down,"
"Take the oversize to TSA?" Satire asked.
"Yeah. There's not many people in the bag room, so we just have to take it down," Tanya responded.
Part of me wanted Aaron to come up here, just so I could see him. I don't wanna be creep or anything, but I if ya saw what I saw, then you'd understand. The way his voice gets low every time her says hi to me, does something good to my soul.
While it is important to respect boundaries and avoid inappropriate behavior, there is also a beauty in acknowledging the emotional impact that a voice can have on us. I'm not only taken away from Aaron by a desire for physical intimacy but rather by a longing to witness the source of that voice that had so deeply moved them.
In the end, the allure of a voice lies not in its physical form but in its ability to touch our hearts and leave an enduring impression on our lives. As the narrator’s experience demonstrates, the voice has the power to evoke emotions that transcend the boundaries of words and create a profound connection between individuals.
Satire looked at me and smirked. She knew I found him to be 'cute', but she didn't know about the other things. I knew he was cute, but these past couple months really had me having second thoughts about him being just cute. He was more than that.
The first customer came up to the ticket counter to check in his bags and get a copy of his boarding pass.
"Hello," I greeted with a smile.
"Hi. I'm going to Toronto and I uh...need to check in my bags and get a print out of my boarding pass," He said.
"Sure, I just need your passport,"
He handed me his passport and I proceeded with the check in. Luckily, he's priority, so I don't need to check his bag in. However, this bag is 65 pounds and it's heavy as hell.
"Here you go," I said, giving him his boarding pass and bag tag. "The gate will be downstairs on the second floor, past security, to your left,"
"Thank you," he said, leaving with his things.
“What did you do yesterday?” Satire asked.
“I was doing homewrok yesterday. Im on my third semester of school,”
“Cybersecurity, right?”
“Mhm,”
“Aaron said hes coning to get the bag,” Mark said.
I looked over at the bag not realizing Mark had checked an oversize. All I have to do is just act cool and evrrythibg will be fine. He could literally be up here any minute now and I have to brace myself.
It felt like hours by the way we were taking in so many bags. At least we didnt get any assholes yet!
“Alright, you’re good to go,” I said.
“Thank you!”
As I check my phone, I look to see what my girls were talking about in the chat. They weren’t talking about much, but I replied back to join in on the conversation. I was so into my phone, I hadn’t realized Aaron’s presence was not too far from the shed.
“Wassup, Satire. Wassup, Yuna,” Aaron greeted.
“Hey,” I uttered out, with a small smile.
“This one’s for you,” Mark said, picking up the oversize bag.
“How many more ya got?” He asked.
“Looks like this is the only one,”
“How many we got today?”
“136,”
“Okay. We didn’t leave out of here until 2am!”
“Whew! I know you tired,”
“I am! I only got three hours of fucking sleep!”
“I feel sorry for ya,”
“I don’t know how much more of this I can take,” Aaron said, shaking his head. “Ight. Lemme take this down. I’ll holla at ya later,”
He trailed past me as his smell of his fragrance lingered off his body. I glanced back at him a couple of times to see him disappear in the elevator. Something about that man screamed ‘I’m the perfect crush’ and I wasn’t mad either. He was just the right one for the challenge.

I once had small crush on an employee once too lol. this is a good start tbh!
