Chapter 1- the day it begun
Loretta’s POV
I woke up around 7:30, stretching my arms, pulling off the covers, getting off my bed, and walking to the bathroom. I grab my toothbrush and put toothpaste on it. I brush my teeth and turn on the water, washing my face. I take off my silk shorts and matching top. I turn on the water and I step into the shower. After 30 minutes, I got out, wrapped my body in a towel. I walk to my closet to pick my clothes. I pull out my black lace matching bra and panties. I put them on, as well as my knee high striped socks, black leggings with a black crop top and a plaid shirt, wrapping it around my waist. I put on my high top converse, and start walking over to the mirror to see how the outfit looked.
I smile at how my outfit looks, having an appearance of classy and comfortable at the same time. I walk out of my room and head downstairs where I see my brother Lucian and his best friend Kalix, standing at the bottom of the steps with bags. I knew they were my brother's bags since I was the one who bought them for him on his 31st birthday. I knew he traveled for work a lot. He was usually gone for a couple of months at the least, but this seemed like a lot for a couple of months.
When I got to the bottom step, my brother hugged me and kissed my head. He pulled away from the hug, looking at me as if it was the last time he would see me. I saw the love in his eyes for his little sister he raised. Ever since our parents were in a car accident and didn’t make it. He told me stories about their adventures and everything they did.
He was only 15 when he had to take up the responsibilities of guardian. If i do say so myself he did a really good job at being the parent figure. He smiled at me and I smiled back, he gave me another kiss on the head and he told me what was happening.
"I have a business trip that I need to be on for a couple of months, Kalix will be here to watch you and be your guardian. Before you say anything, yes I know you are 20 and soon to be 21, i know you can take care of yourself. But I would feel better knowing you were being protected by someone I trust with my life, to watch and keep the most important person in my life safe."
He told me and I nodded my head knowing that all he wants is that I am safe and sound, so I understood why he wanted his best friend to watch over me while was gone. He looked at us both, giving us a sad smile. The same one he gave me, as if it will be the last time he sees us. I don’t understand why he is giving us that smile. He will be back in a couple of months, he picks up his bags and leaves the house. I watch him get into his car, starting the engine and pulling out of the driveway.
Kalix’s pov
I was already at Lucians’s house last night to help him pack. He told me a week ago, he wanted me to watch over his sister since he will be leaving. He will be going into hiding for a while since he made his boss mad. He stole a very expensive piece of jewelry, that would cost millions.
He wanted to surprise his sister since her birthday is next week and she will be 21. He works for Revean Stirn, the most dangerous man in the city. He is well known for his good looks and how heartless he can be. Loretta doesn’t know what he does for work.
All she knows is that her brother works for the most successful business man in the world with him being only 25. As I was helping him pack, he gave me the jewelry he stole from his boss. He took out the tracker that his boss put into every piece of jewelry he owned. Just in case someone tried to steal something that was his, he told me to give it to Loretta for her birthday. I was hesitant at first before I grabbed it and put it away where I would remember, so I could give it to her.
The next morning all his bags were at the door, we waited for her to come down. We both watched as she walked down the stairs, I knew she understood what was happening. Well she sorta knew her brother went on business trips. He was usually gone for a couple months. I saw the look in her eyes of her understanding and she was upset. He would miss her birthday again. It is not the first time he missed her birthday.
She came to the bottom of the steps and he hugged her and kissed her head, she was hugging him back until he pulled away from her to look at her. He gave her the look he gave me. The look of ‘this is the last time we will see each other.’ She gave him a smile and I assume he smiled at her first. I couldn’t see his face since his back was facing me
"I have a business trip that I need to be on for a couple of months, Kalix will be here to watch you and be your guardian. Before you say anything, yes I know you are 20 and soon to be 21,i know you can take care of yourself. But I would feel better knowing you were being protected by someone I trust with my life, to watch and keep the most important person in my life safe."
He told her, and she nodded her head. I could tell she was holding back her tears since he is the only family she has left. He raised her from the age of 4. He was babysitting her that night when their parents died in the car accident. He walked to the door, he looked at us both, giving us a smile of we won’t see each other ever again. I looked at Loretta and saw the confusion on her face *why he was giving us that smile.* I looked at Lucian as he picked up his bags, walked to the car and he placed his stuff in the trunk and back seat. He got into the car starting the ignition and drove off. I whispered to myself.
"Bye best friend I'll see you again one day or in the next life."
