Chapter 1
Scar, who was still in his restaurant suddenly heard a booming voice coming from above. He wasn’t aware but every single individual in The Faelands actually heard this voice just like himself.
“All my citizens, this is your King Domnall and I have great news! For the first time in many years we have succeeded in forming a forward base in the forest. From this front base, Bregenz, we shall launch many expeditions to explore and map the forests that have so far been unknown to us. I call out to all proud Faelanders, I call out to all young adventurers who seek glory, I even call out to my humble citizens. Everyone shall receive an opportunity from me, go into the unknown. I shall reward anyone who manages to discover something new about these forests, I shall personally open the country’s treasury for the greatest explorers! If you wish to join this adventure you can travel to Bregenz from the tunnel I personally carved between Tylis and Bregenz! Good luck to all of my citizens and I hope to hear good news soon!”
After this voice stopped there was an extremely loud cheer from everyone currently in Bregenz. Their king had personally spoken about how great their contribution was. Every player who participated in the construction or any other part of work received the title ‘Bregenz Founding’ ; this title gave them a boost to reputation in The Faelands.
Scar on the other hand received a different title for all his work in the town.
You have obtained the title Bregenz Chef
Title effect: Faelands Reputation +5
It seems like Scar was rewarded for all his work in town with a large boost to reputation. With this Scar now had a reputation of 15 in The Faelands, he wasn’t sure what this would do for him but he thought it would bring him unexpected benefits in the future.
After this he looked at the quest that was generated after King Bomnall’s speech.
Expedition into the Unknown
“All my citizens, this is your King Domnall and I have great news! For the first time in many years we have succeeded in forming a base in the forest.
This was the legendary speech made by King Domnall after seeing the construction of Bregenz was completed. He has given a quest to all young adventurers who are searching for glory, he has tasked you with exploring the unknown wilds to the south. You may report your findings at the town hall of Bregenz, if your information is new you will be rewarded.
Difficulty Level: Unknown
Reward: Depends on the information provided
Requirement: Explore the unknown wilds and report your findings at the townhall in Bregenz
After receiving this quest Scar now had 4 quests, there was no limit to the number of quests a player could have but Scar liked to complete quests as soon as he could. Despite this there was only a single quest he could turn in.
However he would have to return to Ayr city and visit his master in order to complete this quest. While he was tempted to do so Elvinia had been asking him to start working on Titania’s quest ever since he first received the quest.
He asked her to wait until Bregenz finished its construction but now he had no reason to delay the quest any longer. He spoke to the little fairy who was sitting on his shoulder at this time.
“Elvinia, I’m ready to head to the first fairy village. Do you know where we need to go?”
Elvinia smiled when she heard this.
“Yup I know. Do you remember the field in the basalt plains that we tried to enter? That is the closest fairy village, once we reach there mother will guide us through the spell.”
Hearing this, Scar was surprised, who would have thought that he already knew where one of the fairy villages was. They had gotten so close previously but never realized.
After giving it some thought he responded.
“Is there anything I should prepare in particular? If not, I’m just going to prepare food for myself and you all.”
Elvinia acted like she was deep in thought when in reality she was speaking to her mother. After several seconds she responded to Scar.
“We should bring some fruit salad in order to feed my siblings. It would help to have them acknowledge you as a friend.”
Hearing this, Scar simply nodded and went to his restaurant storage room. He looked at the small amount of fruit he had and could only shake his head. He didn’t know how many fairies there would be, however he couldn’t come lacking food.
“Let’s go see Old Greeny, I hope that his fields have enough fruit for me.”
After saying this Scar went to a part of the town he didn’t come to very often, the field was several minutes outside the city walls. Several guards patrolled the area and there were several small walls separating each of the fields.
Unlike the last time he was here all of the fields seemed to be fully ready for harvest which surprised him. Scar called out to Old Greeny who was actually harvesting at this time.
“Hello Old Greeny! I see your fields are doing very well.”
The old man stood up and looked at Scar.
“His majesty visited the fields yesterday. He used some of his Dagda’s power to make all of the crops fully grow.”
Hearing this Scar was surprised, was the king a farmer or something. Seeing the confusion on Scar’s face, Old Greeny kindly explained.
“His majesty is the apostle of Dagda. Dagda himself is a god of many things and one of them is agriculture. Wherever Dagda goes there is no lack of food, because of this The Faelands have never had a famine and no one goes hungry.”
Hearing this Scar was surprised the chief of a pantheon was a god of agriculture. Despite this Dagda was on equal footing with gods like Odin and Zeus so he decided not to underestimate him.
“Thank you for explaining, I am actually about to go on a quest and was looking for a supply of fruits. Did your fruit trees also finish growing?”
Old Greeny chuckled and started leading Scar in a direction. The fruit orchards were in their own section of the farm zone. They were planted along the slopes of the mountain, Scar followed Old Greeny around and harvested a large amount of each type of fruit.
Scar now had a large amount of fruits like apples, oranges, mangos, and even things like cherries and plums.
Elvinia, who was on Scar’s shoulder, had stolen some fruits for herself. He wasn’t sure when she gained the ability to do so but she now seemed to have her own pocket space.
“Hey Elvinia, how much can you store in that space?”
Not expecting her theft to be uncovered so quickly Elvinia looked around guiltily.
“Ummm not much yet. I only have some of each type.”
What she wasn’t telling him was that this ‘some’ was almost 20 of each type. Elvinia wasn’t as gluttonous as Avalon or Charlotte but she loved sweet things.
She especially loved when Scar cut the fruit up for her and then hand fed her. She took all of this fruit in order to ask Scar to cut them for her while on their travels.
Scar wasn’t aware of this secret plan and only nodded.
“That’s okay then, remind me when it grows larger in the future. I think we could use it for a lot of things in the future.”
Hearing this Elvinia nodded rapidly. She wanted to be more useful as well. Right now she could only cast several spells. These spells were telekinesis, a spell that stunned, a short range teleportation, and now a storage spell.
Many people thought that space magic would be overpowered, however it had a glaring weakness. All of its spells cost a ton of mana so it was taking a long time for Elvinia to gain access to all the spells.
After collecting all of the fruit Scar thanked Old Greeny and then hopped on the back of Cyrus. He hoped to take the opportunity while they were traveling to form the bond needed for the synchronization skill.
While traveling he saw many players traveling around and hunting in all of the zones around Bregenz. There were even players traveling to the basalt planes despite being told it was the hardest area to hunt in.
These players were all looking for high risk high reward gameplay. Most of these players were between level 11 and 15. Most of the higher leveled players were similar to WildFairy and Shadow, after receiving the quest from the king they immediately turned in all of their findings while leveling before rushing back into the wild.
Shadow in particular received 6 tokens that could be traded for rewards. He said he wanted to obtain a platinum rank token so he would need to get 10 more tokens. Shadow said he was offered several other options when he turned in the information but chose the tokens.
Scar also hoped to gain at least a silver or gold ranked token before returning to Ayr. After visiting the fairy village he would report his findings to Caratacus for tokens. He had absolutely no idea about what rewards he could get but that wouldn’t stop him.
He had just entered the basalt planes now so he focused, this would be his first time fighting on the back of Cyrus after all. He could already sense the bond being formed so after fighting a couple of times he hoped to be able to buff Cyrus.
The first group they encountered was a group of 5 raptors. Charlotte fought one while Avalon killed another. This left Cyrus, Elvinia, and Scar to take on 3 raptors, he thought that this would be possible.
Cyrus charged straight into the group of raptors and tried to impale one of them on his horns, he didn’t manage to kill that raptor but it was left bloody. This however left Cyrus to be counterattacked.
He received several bloody wounds on his sides, Cyrus howled at the pain. He suddenly stood up on its back legs and let out a loud howl.
Your pet Cyrus has used the rage skill.
Your pet Cyrus has entered the rage state.
Scar, who was desperately holding onto Cyrus’s back saw these messages and held his breath to see what would happen. Cyrus seemed to grow even bigger and he let out another howl before furiously biting the damaged raptor he then proceeded to rip it in half.
After this Cyrus turned to the other 2 raptors and swung its massive clawed paw at one of them. This attack sent the raptor flying while spewing blood, it didn’t seem dead but it was heavily damaged.
Cyrus turned to the remaining raptor and growled, the raptor seemed intimidated however Cyrus pounced on it like a cat would a mouse. The raptor was pinned under Cyrus and after only several seconds it was ripped into several pieces after being bitten by Cyrus several times.
Elvinia called out to them.
“I’m sending it over to you!”
The last raptor that was sent flying while spewing blood had been trying to retreat. However it was sent flying over to Cyrus with Elvinia’s telekinesis spell.
Cyrus swung his paw down catching the raptor out of the air, this single attack killed the raptor. Avalon and Charlotte were also finishing up their raptors at this time, Cyrus still seemed in a rage state however.
Scar seeing this was panicked and tried to use their slowly expanding bond to calm him down. Cyrus kept roaring and stamping the ground until both of the other 2 raptors were killed. He then seemed to rapidly calm down.
Scar after watching this entire course of events had a guess to how the rage skill worked. If he had to take a guess it would be something like ‘gain a large boost to strength and endurance while entering a rage state, this rage state continues until all enemies are slain.’
Scar wasn’t sure if this was 100% correct however he guessed this was mostly correct. The next time they came across a group of raptors Scar pulled up Cyrus’s stats page and saw the exact change in stats.
Cyrus’s 41 points of strength became 62, this meant that he either gained 21 points or had a 1.5x multiplier. Scar guessed that it was the multiplier since 21 was a strange number.
Similar to this Cyrus’s 41 points of endurance became 52. This was probably a 1.25x multiplier. After discovering all of this there was an unexpected update to Cyrus’s stats page. There was now a description of the rage skill.
Abilities:
Rage (Enter a rage state while gaining 1.5x strength and 1.25x endurance, this state remains until all hostile presences in the area are killed or escape. Round up)
Seeing that his guess was accurate and that the system acknowledged his research left Scar very happy. His joy was furthered when after the 4th fight he could finally use the bond between himself and Cyrus to speak.
Cyrus, can you hear me? Can you speak now?
Hearing Scar’s voice directly in his head greatly surprised Cyrus.
Brother?
Hearing a childlike voice in his head surprised Scar, the word brother surprised him even more.
You can really hear me, very good Cyrus! You’re a good boy, you know that!
Cyrus purred when he heard this, if he wasn’t covered in raptor blood making him absolutely terrifying Scar would want to cuddle with him.
Brother! Me. Good?
Scar rubbed the green flames on Cyrus’s head. He still didn’t understand the purpose of the flames, they had no combat purpose but instead just seemed to be aesthetic.
You are very good, the best Nian ever!
Love. Brother!
This entire interaction greatly pleased Scar, while Cyrus looked like a terrifying monster he was still mentally a little kitten. He wasn’t sure how long Cyrus would stay mentally a little kitten however for right now he enjoyed it.
Scar took the opportunity to get a rough estimate that he would be buffing Cyrus and saw that it was around 20% of his stats. This must be the starting percentage for when the bond is first formed.
Combining the berserk skill alongside Scar’s stats gave Cyrus a strength of 66. This was truly terrifying and it would only get more terrifying as time passed.
Scar discussed it with all his pets and they decided to try to fight a T-Rex if they found one alone. It didn’t take too long for this condition to be met.
There was a single T-Rex in the distance roaming around, after Avalon gave the air some sniffs she confirmed there were no enemies. This was the ideal situation so they decided to take the fight.
Cyrus immediately entered a rage state and charged straight at the T-Rex. Charlotte ran behind it and started to shoot webs at its legs to limit its mobility. Lastly Avalon was circling around waiting for an opportunity to attack.
When Cyrun eventually did collide with the T-Rex he actually almost matched it in strength. Cyrus’s paw and the T-Rex’s mouth collided and they each pushed the other away. Cyrus was sent back several feet while the T-Rex only retreated several steps.
Avalon took this opportunity to jump on its back and started to ferociously attack with her claws and teeth. The T-Rex was slightly distracted by this and Cyrus took the opportunity to swipe at its face again.
This time it sent the T-Rex back several feet, it let out a howl at the unexpected damage. The T-Rex recovered its stance and completely ignored Avalon this time and charged straight at Cyrus.
The rest of the fight was a melee, Cyrus and the T-Rex exchanged large blows heavily damaging each other. The main difference came from Scar’s other pets, Charlotte and Avalon were left to freely attack while Elvinia would stun the beast whenever Cyrus was in real danger. Killing this single T-Rex took almost 20 minutes but it was a phenomenal source of experience, Cyrus finally reached level 14 from this fight catching up with his other pets.
From now on they would all be the same level in the future. The group stopped allowing Cyrus plenty of time to fully recover from the heavy damage he sustained. Recovering actually took almost as much time as the fight itself.
After this they decided to ignore the T-Rex and other rare ranked dinosaurs for the time being. They now knew they could kill them and this greatly boosted their confidence. Right before the sun started to set they reached the border of the plain where they were headed for.
Scar decided to sign out for now and continue the next day. This turned out to be smart since even with Titania’s guidance it still took Scar’s group almost half an hour to make it through the spell protecting the fairy village.
Walking through the spell was very strange, it was a completely empty field however instead of walking straight they walked like it was a maze.
They would take several steps forward only to make a random turn before then walking backwards.
Scar felt like Titania was playing a prank on him however after walking seemingly endlessly the field opened up to a brand new scene.
When they did succeed in making it through the spell they immediately saw the fairy village. At least Scar thought it was a fairy village.
There was a single lake with crystal clear water. Surrounding this lake were several small trees with tiny houses hanging from their branches.
The reason Scar wasn’t sure this was the fairy village was because he didn’t see a single fairy. At this time Scar heard Titania’s voice from right next to him, when he looked he saw her standing right there like it wasn’t a big deal.
“This is the first fairy village I would like you to help, as you can see all of my children were chased out of their homes.”
She pointed in a certain direction and Scar saw several figures through the forest. He could only see rough shapes but there was a large variety in size and shape between these creatures.
When Scar walked in that direction he got a better view of what these creatures were. They were actually all dinosaurs! However they were all herbivores and omnivores unlike the dinosaurs he saw outside this sanctuary.
“These creatures have taken over the sanctuary I made for my children, my first job for you is to get all of these creatures to leave my sanctuary. I don’t care if you kill them all or simply force them to leave.”
After saying this she flew into the distance, Scar guessed that she probably went to wherever the fairies were. Scar looked around at the hundreds or thousands of dinosaurs that were all strolling around the field eating the grass and trees.
The problem started when he left the tiny forest surrounding the lake. Every dinosaur from the giant brontosaurus to the comparatively smaller but much spiker stegosaurus all turned and stared at the group in warry fashion.
Scar immediately threw away the idea of attacking, he could immediately tell every creature would join together and attack at the slightest sign of danger. This must have been the reason that the fairies were forced to leave.
Scar decided to walk in the direction that Titania flew in for the time being. He would check up with the fairies and see if he could get any hints on how to deal with this situation.
It didn’t take long until he reached an area bursting with sounds, when he looked past the trees blocking his view he saw where the noise was coming from.
There was a cave behind the lake and he heard all of the noise coming from this cave, Scar added this to his rough sketch of the area.
When he finished this he started walking towards the cave, Elvinia and Cyrus were leading the group with Scar, Charlotte and Avalon behind them.
Elvinia called out to the fairies in the cave.
“Hello siblings, my name is Elvinia. My companions and I have come to help deal with the dinosaurs. We have some questions for you.”
The noises from the cave instantly stopped, Scar thought he saw several pairs of eyes looking at him from the cave. He heard a single voice coming from the cave.
“Is that the one mother talked about?”
Elvinia responded to that voice.
“Yes mother has tasked us to force those creatures to leave. We have come to ask you some questions.”
After hearing this one fairy flew out of the cave warrily. This fairy was clearly an elderly, he had long sparse white hair, his childish face was contrasted by the many wrinkles on his face.
Despite flying he was carrying a walking cane as well, all of this combined to make a very interesting individual.
“Child, you said your name is Elvinia. Who are these other ones?”
The old fairy visibly trembled when it made eye contact with Avalon and Charlotte. It seemed like these fairies have a trauma related to beasts.
Elvinia spoke again to answer his question.
“The human is the one I formed a contract with, his name is Scar. The dog, spider, and fae beast are all the pets of my contracted partner so you don’t need to fear.”
After saying this she flew back to Scar’s shoulder and whispered to him.
“Now is your best chance to feed them.”
After receiving this hint from Elvinia, Scar took out the fruit salad he made for this exact situation. He placed it on the ground before taking several steps back.
The fairies who were watching from the cave seemed to be able to smell the fruit, however he only heard whispers come from the cave.
Scar took this opportunity to speak.
“We mean no harm, I made this fruit salad for you all.”
Hearing the words fruit salad seemed to light a fuse as the whispering in the cave started to get faster and louder. The old man was the first, he flew over to fruit plates on the ground and took one.
When he tasted it his wings stood straight and he let out an odd voice. He then proceeded to rapidly stuff the fruit into his mouth. The fairies in the cave seeing this were like cats with their tails stepped on.
They all burst out of the cave and pounced on the fruit, it didn’t even take 10 minutes for all the premade fruit salads to be finished. The fairies were also now bloated and they were laying on the ground like drunkards.
Seeing this Elvinia nodded, she did the same thing every time that Scar hand fed her fresh fruit. Scar waited for the fairies to recover so he would be able to speak to them.
While he waited he decided to take out an apple and peeled it, he then slowly fed Elvinia since she had done such a good job recently. It didn’t take long before she finished an entire apple, her little stomach was now stuffed and she laid down belly up on his shoulder.
After several minutes several of the fairies seemed to have recovered, in particular the old fairy that first met them was already flying again and was now circling around Scar’s head.
“Human, you are a good human. Mother said you were a good human but we thought she was playing a trick.”
Some of the other fairies who were recovering also started to fly around Scar’s head and started chatting. He took this opportunity to ask some questions.
“Sir Elder Fairy, your mother has tasked me to get rid of all those dinosaurs for you but I will need some more information.”
Hearing this, all of the fairies started talking at the same time.
“Those mean things suddenly invaded.”
“They used to be friends.”
“They eat all our fruit.”
“They used to live outside.”
“They escaped the mean creatures outside.”
“They want our plants.”
Scar tried to put together all of the things he was hearing. It would seem those creatures used to live in the basalt plains, however they escaped into their sanctuary somehow and now they eat all of the fairies’ food.
“Why did they escape into your sanctuary? How did they get past the spell? Did they always live outside?”
Again there was another barrage of answers.
“There food all whitered.”
“They were friends before.”
“They never entered our houses before.”
“We felt bad so we let some in.”
“They ate our food and refused to leave.”
“They’re so mean.”
Scar wished they more directly answered his questions, however he tried to put together what he was hearing. Those dinos used to live on the basalt plains and ate the plants that used to grow there, however all of their food withered and the fairies felt bad.
Since they felt bad the younger fairies let the young dinos enter their sanctuary. However after tasting the food they refused to leave, the remaining herbivores outside the sanctuary all died away and now only predators live outside.
Scar now understood the situation, however he had one last question.
“Do you know why their food withered?”
This time the answer came from the one older fairy.
“When mother made the sanctuary, all of the plants died.”
When he heard this the entire situation became much more complicated. It seems like the one he needed to ask questions was Titania. Almost as if she expected his question she spoke in his head.
“Those raptors used to hunt my children freely, I wanted to make a safe home for them. However I had to use nature’s power to fuel the spell that protects the sanctuary. I didn’t expect that my children would cause such an unexpected problem.”
He rubbed his forehead and started thinking to himself. Even with all of this information Scar had only 2 options, he could either kill or scare those dinos out.
The question was how he could do so. He was absolutely now powerful enough to kill them all himself, and how could he possibly scare such a large herd of creatures. It took him several hours before he came up with his first idea.
He wouldn’t be able to kill them all in direct combat, however what about indirect combat or traps? He asked a single question that was the key to his plan.
“Those dinos can’t enter the forest right?”
The elder fairy answered this question as well.
“This is mother’s holy territory, only those she allows can enter.”
With this news Scar had a plan.
