Summary

It is the early 2040s and the world is going through major societal and governmental changes. A young Dutchwoman named Zoe has just recently opened her hypnotherapy and counselling practice in Amsterdam when she meets an older woman named Anika who becomes her client. Before too long, Zoe starts becoming obsessed with Anika and her personal history, not just in this life, but in many of her past lives, which seem to be following a distinct pattern. Zoe must reconcile this personal obsession with the revelations that Anika's therapy is giving her, the constant nagging thought that she is being watched, and the ongoing world changes that seem to be spiralling further and further out of control.

Meeting Anika (part 1)

17 June, 2043, Vienna

A famous author once wrote that it was the best of times and it was the worst of times.

Charles Dickens could have been talking about the past few years in the forties and not the French Revolution. Yet what we have lived through recently is more wide reaching than a national revolution in one country. It has been various revolutions in many different countries, all at roughly the same time. I never thought I would ever see so many world governments overthrown in such a short period of history. Once the dominoes started falling, it was impossible to stop them.

Anyone reading this account knows what happened, and I am sure by the time I finish this, it will be well documented everywhere. However, I will summarise how I saw it, having lived through it.

It started in the United States and the rest of the world followed. Hardly surprising that it started there. The major enduring world power of the twentieth century and early twenty-first century had been in trouble for many years. Yet the scale of its collapse, and the subsequent shock waves that it caused, was inevitably going to be catastrophic for many other nations.

All the major changes were brewing in the late 30s, but took until early 2040 to really get going. That was when many nations – not just the United States – were revealed to be far more corrupt and controlled than anyone could have imagined. Most had links to the United States, but some didn’t. People saw the lies and corruption in their own countries once the shackles were released in the US, and uprisings followed in those nations.

Every day for literally months we had revelations, developments and uncovered plots. Global institutions, a major part of what was wrong with the world, broke up or dissolved almost overnight.

Even the most popular and well-crafted movies and TV shows could not live up to the shocking stories we were seeing on our TVs, our computers and our phones. Nobody could tear themselves away from watching world events unfold. Daily life for many almost stopped and came to a halt completely. I recall feeling in a daze for many weeks during the early weeks of 2040.

In my native country, the Netherlands, it was bewildering. We had societal changes that freed us from deceit and uncertainty. We had the easing of many restrictions in our lives such that living out each day was so much easier. We obtained freedom beyond what we could ever have imagined, not even realising how trapped we were.

Yet, at the same time, we had to struggle with the understanding of what was happening to us, and we had to deal with the memories of what we had lived through. Nobody, in the years and decades prior, really had any awareness of the scale of the deceptions we had been subjected to. Along with this came the knowledge that our parents had lived through more of it than we had. Our grandparents even more again. And so many previous generations before them.

So much of our world and national history had been faked. No-one knew what was true any more. Many did not want to know. Commentators and experts told us to live for the future. Many could not just simply do that. With all the freedom and knowledge gained, we had so much uncertainty, anxiety, sadness and regret to also deal with.

It made things very hard, on a day-to-day basis. We needed to feel anchored to any feeling of stability or certainty and it wasn’t forthcoming. Many of us did not know what to believe any more. Or who to trust. If so many things we thought we knew were lies and the truth had been hidden from us, then how much of these new revelations should we believe? It was bewildering to us, as much as it was freeing.

It seemed like we should have known all of this. Figured it out long before. Everything was broken. That should have been obvious. But it wasn’t. Society desperately needed healing, and it was hard to know who was going to do it, let alone how. Nobody trusted anybody.

Despite all of that, more than a few have by now managed to move on and are enjoying the freedom that they never realised they’d lost. Everyone seems to be handling it all in their own way.

However, as a species, in general terms, we have become rudderless. There is no knowing which direction we’re heading. Too many people have different ideas and too many people are scrambling for leadership positions and forming new manifestos. No-one is sure what the right ideology should be any more, so all new ideas are treated with scepticism if not suspicion. Our societal direction has made me very uncomfortable.

In those early tumultuous months of 2040 I had been trying to understand why life was the way it was, and wanting to find a way to deal with everything that has followed since then. Nobody around me was really able to help much, because they were all going through it as well. So I decided to make the best of things and look to the future. I stopped dwelling on the past and chose to be someone who would help, rather than someone who needed help.

Not long into 2041, I opened my counselling business.

It didn’t take long to get things going. I was quite motivated, once I made the decision to do it. I made the investment in time, money and energy, and got my office and my business going with true intent. I had by then developed a strong drive to help people come to terms with their world. I wanted to get clients coming in as often as I could handle, so that I could do what I love, which was to help people and to explore human consciousness.

I was always deeply interested in consciousness, from a young age. What was it, exactly? How did it arise and from where? As part of my search to understand it, in my early 20s, I discovered past life therapy and was fascinated. People could recall having lived before via hypnosis. This meant I could probe the nature of consciousness a bit more through working with clients in this way.

I began to research what I needed to do in order to learn hypnotherapy. I was finishing my counselling degree at the time, but it had never felt like counselling by itself would be enough to fully engage me. Hypnotherapy was the missing piece I needed. So I signed up for a course and learned how to do it. Within six months I was qualified to practice it.

I then conceived of my own business, where I could combine both hypnotherapy and counselling, and learn about the unconscious mind, and the spirit world, through treating my clients. I would use the front study of our apartment in Amsterdam as my office. Once the idea crystallised in my mind, I was hooked on it.

Back then, people in Amsterdam were living more freely, working less and planning what to do with their free time. I liked that. I felt so good about those changes in our daily lives. There was so much more free time. People suddenly had a bit of spare money. They weren’t struggling just to pay the rent and to put food on their tables. Actually, it’s more accurate to say that money wasn’t important anymore and life wasn’t so hard. I remember being so optimistic at that time. How naive I was.

It wasn’t easy, getting the business going, but within a few months it started to come together. Whenever my phone would ring I would always answer “Zoe Dijkstra Therapy!” even if it was Dad ringing me. He’d always laugh it off and continue talking as if I’d never said those words. Dad and I are still close, especially now that he and Monica are here in Vienna with us.

I’m glad he made it here. I need him around me. The chaos is truly settling in here now, as it is everywhere. It would be nightmarish if I didn’t know what was going on. I don’t know how regular people are coping. Those who don’t have the knowledge behind them that we do.

As I write, the black object remains in the sky and is untouchable. It follows the sun across the sky, every day, so that all people in all nations can see it. Military units around the world have tried and tried to destroy it. Nothing makes any difference. It’s just there and continues to be there. It’s been dubbed “the Black Satellite”. In fact it’s the appearance of the Black Satellite that has caused me to start writing this chronicle.

I feel like its a sign that the end is near.

Many believe so as well. The Satellite’s appearance dominates the media. They don’t have to lie any more. At least I think they don’t. People are greatly frightened, the world over. This sort of thing was never expected to happen. Objects of that size don’t just randomly show up with no warning. In any previous time period I would have expected global panic. That has not happened.

In some ways I think the events of early 2040 have softened people up a bit. The world is not what they thought it was, and so many lies have been uncovered. A mysterious black thing in the sky is just one more thing to deal with. It’s not as far-fetched as it would have otherwise been.

It’s so surreal, our world. In a way I feel privileged to be experiencing this. I know I will learn so much from what is happening and is about to happen. I know my soul will journey on after I leave here, and I suspect that will be soon enough.

I am not the least frightened of dying. In fact I welcome it. It will be the end of my current chapter in my soul’s journey, and I’ll get to have a rest and find out what is on the other side. I’m almost excited, in a way.

I don’t mind dying. As long as everyone else does too. I can deal with that scenario.

If I could help everyone else understand all that is unfolding, I would. But I can’t. Many simply will not listen, even if I had fame and the audience and the means to spread the word. I can’t help everyone, but I thought I would try to at least help a few, through establishing my business.

In all of what has been happening, I also had to leave my home in Holland and come here to Vienna. This city is so beautiful, but it’s not my home. Every day, I wish I was back in my familiar and treasured Amsterdam, which I still love, despite all the revelations of corruption there and all of the societal disharmony that is being experienced by the Dutch people. Holland is all I’ve ever known. I never ever wanted to leave. Alas, I had no choice. I’ve been seeking privacy, peace and solace here in Austria as much as is possible on a day-to-day basis.

I feel sad for my clients. The ones I left behind in Holland. I had no time to say goodbye and I can’t tell them where I am. We had to leave suddenly and I couldn’t tell them anything. It was distressing. I got a new phone number when we got to Austria, so there’s no way they can reach me on the old one. I hope maybe some day I will be able to apologise to them, in person.

I feel like most of them wouldn’t understand anyway if I started telling them what I know and why I had to leave. As for the general public, well, who knows? I realised long ago that people will help themselves if they are able to, and there’s not too much we can do to drag them towards understanding if they don’t have it in themselves to seek it. They will if they want to, or they’ll struggle through in their own way.

Sometimes I wonder if it would simply be better to not ever have learned what I have learned since that day Anika first walked into my office.

It seems as if, since then, that I feel like I will never reach emotional stability or relative peace of mind. Not for any meaningful length of time.

It’s not her fault, not at all. It just happened. There’s parts of me that wish it never did and parts of me that wouldn’t have it any other way. It is truly a blessing and a curse. For sure. I have learned so much of the origin of our societal problems through my work with Anika. With that in mind, I am pretty sure I would do it all over again, if the opportunity presented. Acquiring the information from our sessions has been painful at times, on top of the world events being what they have been, but I’d rather know than live in ignorance.
