The sky was turning into a deeper shade of blue with each passing moment. A lone star was already up, glinting away against the dull background. I peered at the wall in the far corner of the park, hoping that Ray would show up any moment. An old lady, in bright pink pajamas glanced at me suspiciously. My first instinct was to snarl at her. She reminded me of my aunt. Sadistic, with a little or no empathy.
The backpack weighed tons over my malnourished shoulders, despite of my little possessions. Ray and me had planned this “escape” together. I was fleeing from my aunt’s house, and he was to run away from his step father. I managed to steal a couple of things before I jumped off from the kitchen window. An expensive wrist watch; which belonged to my cousin, and a knife. My aunt had used it many times to punish me. I had stolen it for a purpose, one day I would rip it through her throat. A smile escaped my lips, as I imagined her face twisted in pain, asking for mercy. It would end her taunts forever.
