***FLASHBACK***
Riley Davis at 18 years old just graduated high school and walked into the packhouse with her best friend Natalie. They just celebrated their graduation. They heard talking in the kitchen. They slowly walked to the doorway but stayed out of sight.
“Nick, you know how Riley feels about you,” they heard Ricky say.
“I know, but I don’t want to start something and then I find my mate, I would have to end things and break her heart, I don’t want to do that to her,” they heard Nick say.
“What if Riley is your mate?” Ricky asked.
“My wolf would know,” Nick said.
“And Nico hasn’t said anything,” Ricky said.
“No he hasn’t,” Nick said.
“Bro, Riley knows how things work around here, she knows what happens when we find our mates,” Ricky said.
“When you going to tell your mate?” Nick asked.
“As soon as she gets home,” Ricky said.
“Ricky, don’t hurt her okay,” Nick said.
“Nick, she’s my mate, I wouldn’t dare,” Ricky said.
“I know you think I should try something with Riley, but it’s better this way,” Nick said.
“Riley has been in love with you for years,” Ricky said.
“Ricky, I get it but I don’t want to start something and then I find my mate plus I’m eleven years older than your sister, she’s better to find someone closer to her age,” Nick said.
“Wow really, age is only a number,” Ricky said.
“Ricky, I think I found my mate,” Nick said. Riley looked at Natalie and walked quietly away, found her parents and talked to them. They hugged her and she went upstairs to pack. She came down, hugged her parents and brother who had joined them. She saw Nick at the door of the kitchen. He looked down. She walked out the door with her bags and loaded up her car and headed off to college early.
***END FLASHBACK***
***PRESENT DAY***
Riley is returning home after graduating college. Her family has come to her for holidays because she got a job while at college and couldn’t be away for long because they were always short handed. When she graduated, they finally got more than enough help that she was able to quit and move back home to her family. No one shared any news about Nick. She and Natalie kept in touch because Ricky and Natalie were mates and together and engaged. Natalie always came with them when they came to see her. Nathan came with Rachel but no one said anything about Nick knowing she was hurting because she told them she heard everything that was said in the kitchen. She pulled up to the house and got out.
“Sis!” Rachel said coming out.
“Aunt Riley!” her niece Kylee said following Rachel.
“Hey sweetie!” Riley said. Her niece ran into her arms. Rachel and Nathan had a baby girl. She was almost five years old. Rachel gave birth two months after she left for college.
“So glad you are home,” Rachel said.
“Feels good to be home,” Riley said.
“Hey sis, I’ll get your bags,” Nathan said.
“Thanks bro, taking care of your girls?” Riley asked.
“You know it,” Nathan said.
“He’s the best daddy ever,” Kylee said.
“Love you baby girl,” Nathan said. Rachel and Riley walked in with Kylee. Nina and Greg came and hugged her.
“Our girl is home!” Nina said happily.
“Missed you princess,” Greg said.
“We just saw each other three months ago at graduation,” Riley said.
“Three months was too long, felt like years,” Greg said.
“Welcome home Riley,” Michael said joining them.
“It’s good to see you honey,” Maria said. They both hugged her. She smiled.
“How’s retirement going?” Riley asked.
“We just got home from Europe so next month we are off to Iceland,” Michael said.
“Sis!” Ricky said. He came running over and hugged her.
“Hey bro I’ve missed you,” Riley said.
“I missed you too,” Ricky said.
“Riley!” Natalie said as she came and hugged her. Riley smiled and hugged her.
“Nick honey, Riley’s home,” Maria said.
“I see that, welcome home Riley,” Nick said. She smiled at him and he nodded before going into the office.
“Nothing has changed around here apparently,” Riley said. She went upstairs to her room. Rachel came in with Natalie.
“Sis,” Rachel said.
“I’m fine,” Riley said.
“He would have came over but he had a conference call to other alphas in the alliance to check on things,” Natalie said.
“Nat,” Riley said.
“Riley, I would never lie to you okay or make excuses for him, it is the truth and here’s another truth, he’s not been with anyone, there has not been any women in his life,” Natalie said.
“I heard him, he said he found his mate,” Riley said.
“I heard him too but he never said anything and we never saw anyone with him, all he does is Alpha work, he worked with our dads and brothers and just focused on the pack, he never told us he found his mate or introduced her to the pack so he either hasn’t found her yet or he rejected her for some reason,” Natalie said.
“What if he was talking about Riley being his mate but didn’t say anything because of what he said to Riley, yeah I heard about that sis,” Rachel said.
“My feelings haven’t gone away, I just focused on work and my studies and just kept to myself, I didn’t go anywhere but to classes, to work, to the library, and to eat with friends but no partying or anything,” Riley said.
“We are just happy you are home,” Natalie said.
“Yeah, besides you should get ready to be an aunt again,” Rachel said as she rested a hand on her stomach.
“Oh my goodness!” Riley said. She hugged her sister.
“Nathan is so sure it’s a boy this time,” Rachel said.
“He wants a mini him,” Riley said.
“Yeah but he loves Kylee more than anything, she’s his world,” Rachel said. They continued talking and catching up.
Later that evening...
Riley ate dinner with her family before hugging them and heading to her room. She locked her door and went to shower before getting into bed and going to sleep.
The next morning.....
She went for a run in her human form and found her favorite bench by the creek. She sat down on it and just watched the water. She sensed someone watching her. She looked up and saw Nick standing there.
“Riley,” Nick said.
“Nick,” Riley said
“May I join you?” Nick asked.
“It’s your land and bench,” Riley said. He sat down next to her. She sat there looking at the creek.
“Riley, I’m glad you are back home, I’m sorry I didn’t say goodbye before you went off to college, I’m also sorry for not coming to greet you when you came home, I always have a conference call with all the alphas at a certain time every day,” Nick said.
“Nat told me,” Riley said.
“Riley, I know about your feelings for me, I felt the same for you and I was afraid to act on them because of the possibility that I would find my mate and have to break up with you, I didn’t want to hurt you plus I thought I would be too old for you,” Nick said.
“Age is only a number, my grandpa was fifteen years older than my grandma when they became mates,” Riley said.
“How long were they together?” Nick asked.
“They still are, you know they are still alive, they have been traveling nonstop, they came to see me each time they came through Florida,” Riley said. She had attended the University of Florida while their pack-house was in Colorado.
“Oh right, it’s hard to keep track of those who aren’t in the house or area,” Nick said.
“Nick,” Riley said.
“I should have came to you, Riley, I should have came to you and confessed my feelings for you, because now I know for sure,” Nick said.
“What Nick?” Riley asked.
“Riley, when I was talking to Ricky in the kitchen, I smelled the scent of vanilla, now I’m smelling it again, it’s you Riley, you are my mate,” Nick said. She slowly looked up at him and took a deep breath.
“Oh god, I’m smelling cedar and sandalwood,” Riley said. She leaned close and sniffed. She heard her wolf talking to her.
“Riley,” Nick said.
“You are my mate, my wolf is going crazy wanting Nico,” Riley said.
“Nico wants Rie,” Nick said.
“Oh god,” Riley said.
“I’m sorry for what I said in the kitchen, you are right, age is only a number,” Nick said.
“Nick,” Riley said. He pulled her close and cupped her face with his hands.
“I need to kiss you,” Nick said.
“Please,” Riley said. He took her mouth with his in a deep kiss. Their tongues began exploring each other’s mouth as he pulled her into his lap. His hands stroked her legs as she wrapped her arms around him as they kissed deeply and passionately. She moaned in his mouth as he growled in hers. They pulled apart and rested their foreheads against each other breathing heavily.
“Oh god Riley, it’s you and me always, my Luna,” Nick said.
“Don’t let me go,” Riley said.
“We mate for life, you know that and I swear that I’m never rejecting you, I know now that it’s always been you, you’ve always had my heart and you always will,” Nick said. He captured her mouth with his as he moved her to where she was straddling his lap and she pressed against his hard cock. He moaned in her mouth and pushed against her while holding her close to him.
