"What a wonderful take on werewolf lore. The story is unique with a well built world to go with it. The characters are well developed and pack an emotional punch I rarely see in this genre. This is NOT the accepted trope. The book is an emotional rollercoaster of what happens when mates discover each other in horrible circumstances. The consequences can be devastating, and how they handle it makes all the difference. The story of how, is fascinating. "

"Overall, I LOVED reading this story for the GEA. I think Lyvia is a fantastic protagonist with a great voice, and Aron was such a standout for an MMC. What a sweetheart - I was kicking my feet! They have such great chemistry and I'm so excited to see how their relationship continues to develop over the course of the story. I do think chapter two would work as an opener with the framing device shortened and acting as a prologue to keep things vague as to whether Lyvia and Aron end up together, as well as a slower reveal to what happened with Miklos, but I still very much enjoyed the story and I am INVESTED in what happens with these two. I noticed very few grammar mishaps - I can tell you've really put the work in to polish this - and the writing style flowed wonderfully and was easy to get attached to. Overall, a fantastic historical fantasy story with great interpersonal plot beats and truly fantastic characters. Well done! :) "

I am absolutely captivated by the characters and adore the writing style!"
An intriguing take on a long-lived life of survival, self-discovery and love
"For transparency, I have only read the first five chapters of this story, and I do not tend to gravitate towards books featuring wolf hybrids/werewolves/fantasy novels involving such creatures. I also don’t tend to go for first-person POV. For a genre that I don’t partake in, this was generally very well written, aside from some grammatical issues here and there, such as ellipses having four full-stops rather than three. I have two main points of critique for this book, which once again stem only from the first five chapters. The introductory chapters (the first five, I would say, as they capture Olivia’s life experience, self-discovery, her current life with Aron and their meeting) were confusing in terms of what point of time Olivia is referencing in her chronology, as there's a few time jumps that confused me as a reader. My second criticism is that, after five chapters, I’m not entirely sure what the plot of the book or point is. I realised only after reading the first five chapters that this seems to be a continuation of a series/in the same universe as other books, and it'd be great to note this somewhere since, as a standalone, I had a few questions that I'm sure would be answered in the previous. This is the only reason I have given the score three stars for plot, as that score is based on the idea of the story as a complete standalone. In my opinion, that score would increase with more explanation/connection to other books within the first five chapters. Aside from those criticisms – wow. The way Candace Redmayne crafts her sentences is visceral. Scenes where Olivia is fighting for her life are so vivid and powerful that I was completely immersed. There’s an elegance in the way that the author writes that draws you in and holds you there. It also lends to Olivia’s proclaimed cleverness and intelligence that her POV uses such language. The way this is written makes my lack of experience with the genre obsolete. I also love history, and Candace’s interweaving of the passage of time and historical events is masterful. If this is your genre, definitely give this a read. I peeked at further chapters here and there, and the quality of Candace’s work remains consistent and even reminds me of great classical romances. "

I also like how you describe how Olivia felt throughout those centuries. It's not just fact but also feeling. Your writing style is very detailed. She used all five senses to describe the scenes and does an excellent job of it."
