Summary

A kingdom divided, torn by hate and conflict. Two brothers, bound by blood and loyalty, clash in a deadly battle to claim the heart of one woman. An unlikely match for either of them, Cassidy is a girl born from a simple, humble background, unaccustomed to being central to the affections of the King’s sons. Unable to decide between them, unwilling to make a choice, Cassidy becomes embroiled in a civil war where the two brothers fight for their right to marry her. As the body count rises, the stakes escalate and the streets run red with blood. Only one warrior will emerge victorious, but at what cost? Will Cassidy’s love be the catalyst for peace, or the spark that ignites a devastating war? There will be only one brother left standing to claim her for his own.

Prologue

If I close my eyes, perhaps when I open them, this would all be a dream. Perhaps there would be no echoing cries of the wounded. Perhaps I would not be deafened by the muted silence of the dead. Perhaps I would not be looking out across these barren wastelands that were once home, to see it all as piles of ash. Perhaps the capital, Estoria, would still be standing.

The distinctive metallic smell of blood fills my nostrils. The clatter of metal swords rattled my teeth. The sickening ripping of flesh made my stomach church. This war was between our people. It had turned the Kingdom against each other. Innocent people of Estoria were fighting against one another. Against their friends, their neighbors, and even members of their own family.

It all depended on whom they were loyal to out of the King’s two sons, Logan and Jax. Who out of the two they were most prepared to die for. Who they were willing to sacrifice their life for to be on the throne as the next king.

This war should never have happened. It should never have come to this. If only I had never turned up to the Masquerade Ball. I would never have met either of them. I may never have known what true love felt like, but at least Estoria would still be as it always had been. Not in the chaos of war it was now. Buildings are now nothing more than rubble and dust. Fires spread across the land as far as the eye could see. I wouldn’t have to watch as the two men I love battle against each other to win my hand in marriage. To be my soulmate.

Whoever wins, I would still lose. Logan or Jax, both of them hold pieces of my heart. The war will end with a singular outcome. The only outcome. An outcome I did not like. When one of them is dead.
