I sit in front of the bright lights in my mirror. The same bright lights that I have sat under before in numerous arenas and stadiums. Under these lights, I have transformed and given myself a new identity. However, today is different. I didn’t intend for it to be different, not at first, I was planning for this to be another glamor fest where I dress up both my body and soul. Something stirred in me. Maybe it was all the interviews and posts I have seen over the past few, but I knew I needed to prove them wrong today. I could deal with being called a slut and whore, but being told my success was from strategic dating and pure sexiness was too far. Most of all being told that I was merely a product of a past era where women were nothing but plastic dolls was insulting. I wanted all of them to know what it was to be Kaia, not Crystal, Kaia. I wanted them to know what it took to get there. I wanted them to know I was worthy of being in the International Wrestling Federation (IWF) Hall of Fame. I wanted them to know what exactly “sleeping my way to the top” got me. After I do some soft makeup and let my curly dark brown hair lay casually down my shoulders and back, I go to my closet and pick out a plain blush pink dress. I can’t think of the last time anyone but my husband and close friends have seen me not wearing a wig. I try to imagine how the interviewer, Lauren, I think she was, is going to react to this appearance. Will she be surprised? Relieved? Curious? Hell, even bored that the famously glamorous Crystal secretly dresses like a middle-aged executive? No matter what the reaction will be I know one thing; I have to do this. I walk out of my dressing room to see Lauren, the reporter at my door. The right move was to let her in myself. Having no servants, maids, or assistants around will help me achieve what I need to do. I open the door and greet Lauren. “Hi! You are Crystal?” Lauren says with a somewhat confused look on her face. I can feel she vaguely recognizes me, but am not one hundred percent sure it’s me. I don’t blame her, under all the makeup it can be hard to recognize me. “Yes, that’s me, but please call me Kaia while we are here. That’s my real name after all.” I say helping her with her purse and leading her into an empty living room. “I will go grab you some coffee and water. This is going to be a long interview and I want you to be awake for most of it.” She is surprised again when I say this; she wasn’t planning on things being so personal. I walk over with the tray of drinks for the both of us. “Whenever you are ready Lauren.” Lauren takes a sip of her coffee, then looks up at me, “Where do you want me to begin Kaia? My supervisor told me that this was a completely casual and no-rules interview. I’ll allow you to take the lead. I’ll ask some questions here and there to gain a better understanding, but this is your space.” I look up at Lauren, take a sip of water, and quickly clear my head for the story I am about to tell. “I want to start from the beginning, I want to tell you everything.I sit in front of the bright lights in my mirror.
