Introduction

Along my journey of finding Jesus and seeking a relationship with him, I have seen the SOAP prayer method. It is a system for studying God’s word, what it means to you, and how to put it into practice. SOAP is an acronym that provides a great structure for studying God’s word, i.e. the Bible. This book will be my daily SOAP devotionals and you reading this are welcome to place your own understandings and/or favorite bible verses and what they mean to you in the comments section.

Malachi 3:2 reads: “But who can endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner’s fire and like launderer’s soap [which removes impurities and uncleanness].

SOAP stands for Scripture, Observation, Application and Prayer and involves four simple steps:

Scripture– Read a short Bible passage out loud and/or write it out.

Observation– What do you notice about the verses? What do you think the main message is? What verses, words or ideas jump out to you?

Application– Ask God how he wants you to apply the verse to your own life.

Prayer– Pray for yourself and/or for others.

The method is suitable for individual and group use. I will be posting my own daily SOAP verses and encourage anyone who wants to join and talk. You can even suggest your own scriptures to talk about and possibly add to the book.
