Chapter 1

I opened my eyes, staring at the ceiling of my room. I sighed, delaying the inevitable moment of waking up. Tonight, the Pack was hosting its Spring Ball. The Lycan King would be attending, which was a great honor for the pack. Everyone seemed very excited about the event, and I was too, but for a completely different reason.

I was eagerly counting the days until my freedom. At 19, I would be free. At that age, all werewolves could emancipate themselves from their pack and become omegas. It wasn’t a very popular choice, as wolves are social animals, living in packs. But for me, it would be a release.

Since my parents had died about 16 years ago, I had been treated as a servant, worse than an omega, in the Alpha’s household. I had been beaten numerous times for refusing to submit to the authority of the future Alpha, a spoiled brat whose advances I had rejected many times. My back and legs were scarred, remnants of Theon’s unyielding temperament. He had often threatened to make me his slave when I reached my majority as a she-wolf. According to Lycan law, wolves were not allowed to mate before reaching maturity. At that age, female wolves began to experience the effects of their first heat. They could mate, be marked, and become pregnant.

Two more months. 60 days. I pulled a work dress from my closet when a loud crash shook the door to my room. I jumped.

“Open the door, Evonie,” Theon’s voice pounded, his mood stormy.

I rolled my eyes, realizing it was just Theon with his usual way of saying hello. I continued dressing, indifferent. The door burst open abruptly. I turned around, startled. Theon strode in with arrogant confidence.

“Get out of my room, you crazy bastard,” I hissed, unconcerned about the repercussions of speaking to him that way.

A deep growl rumbled from his chest.

“Is that how you speak to your future Alpha, you little shit?” he said, grabbing my neck.

Instinctively, I tried to pry his hands off me. He pressed his lips to mine. I moaned in disgust and bit his lower lip.

“Ahhh!” he cried, pulling back quickly.

I had bitten hard enough to make blood run down his chin. A metallic taste filled my mouth as I smirked with satisfaction. Suddenly, a sharp pain radiated through the right side of my face. I hadn’t seen his slap coming. I moaned but held back my tears, unwilling to give him that satisfaction.

He smiled, tilted his head. He brushed my cheek, marked by his hand, with his thumb. I held his gaze.

“You know, I was waiting for you to turn 19 to claim you, but maybe I’ve been too patient with you...” he said, his eyes full of desire. “Maybe I should pay you a visit tonight, after the ball.”

“Go fuck yourself”, I replied.

His eyes turned black. I didn’t care about the consequences. I knew he wouldn’t kill me. His father and mother wouldn’t have accepted it. And none of his tortures could be worse than what he had already put me through. A week ago, he had branded me with his initials using an iron rod, which had pierced and burned the flesh on the lower part of my back. The wound hadn’t fully healed yet, and touching it was still painful.

Suddenly, Theon grabbed my hands and harshly turned me so that my face was smashed against the wall. He gripped my arms harder, and I whimpered as he pressed his body against my back. I felt his breath on my neck, and a hard bulge touched the lower part of my back. His lips landed on my neck, tracing the outline of my clenched jaw. His free hand quickly lifted the hem of my dress, and I was seized by a wave of panic. I tried to kick him with my legs, but it was no use.

His wandering hand climbed higher and higher, finding its way to my buttocks, which he grabbed harshly, digging his claws into them.

“Ahhh! Let me go!” I gasped.

His hand continued its way up to my breasts, which he roughly kneaded.

“Don’t think that just because you’re not 19 yet, I can’t use you as I please. Your rebellious spirit excites me immensely, but there will come a day when I’ve had enough, and you won’t be able to stop me from breaking you.”

He suddenly released me and went downstairs.

Bastard, I told myself.

I tried to regain my composure before heading downstairs to start the preparations for tonight’s ball..
