Chapter 1 - The Sound of Sobbing
NOTE: This is book 6 in the “My Mafia Madness” Series. Please make sure you read books 1 - 5 before beginning this one.
Alexa was missing and at her very own wedding too mind you…
When the music had started, signalling for the bride to come walking down the aisle, she was nowhere to be seen.
This was not good.
Luckily Dante had a top-notch security team on board for his wedding and thanks to them he knew exactly where Alexa was.
According to them, she had last been seen around five minutes ago entering their shared luxury suite up on the sixteenth floor of the hotel.
So at least he knew that his fiancé was safe, if anything.
But why Alexa hadn’t arrived at their wedding was another question entirely.
What reason could she possibly have to not show up?
Determined to find out why more than anyone else down there, Dante began marching back down the length of the aisle, past the seated guests and friends who had come to witness their special union.
Each of them with the same clueless expressions upon their faces.
He would get to the bottom of this, one way or another.
Having finally arrived at the doors leading into their spacious suite, Dante used his keycard to gain access inside and opened the doors.
Closing them behind himself, he tried calling out for her.
“Alexa?”
No answer.
But that’s when he heard the sound of sobbing coming from the far end of the suite and zeroed in on it, one step at a time.
The sobbing led him deep into the suite, all the way into the master bedroom where he found Alexa sitting at the vanity, her head down and leaning over both her arms, sobbing softly to herself.
Perhaps she hadn’t yet heard him come inside.
Maybe she had and for some unknown reason didn’t want to talk to him.
Either way, Dante decided to take the initiative and speak first.
He needed to find out what was on her mind.
“Bella? What’s wrong?” he asked sympathetically, moving in closer towards her from across the room.
“What’s happened?”
Only now realising that she wasn’t alone, Alexa tried to suck it up and prevent herself from crying anymore as she dabbed at her eyes with a tissue in the mirror.
She had red rings around either one of her eyes from all the crying and her eyeliner was slightly smudged.
Not that she cared.
Her heart was broken…
“Talk to me, please.” Dante tried again, reaching out for her and placing his large inked hand down onto her shoulder.
She immediately shrugged it off angrily, speaking over her shoulder in a cold tone.
“Leave me alone. Please, just go.” she pleaded.
Baffled by the way she was treating him, Dante understandably wanted to know the reason why he was being treated this way.
“Have I done something wrong?” he asked.
“Did I perhaps hurt you in some way? Please, talk to me. Let me help.”
“You can’t…” she muttered, shaking her head.
“I saw you… I saw you both together.”
Now Dante’s attention was fixated on the situation, after hearing that he and someone else had been together.
What on Earth was Alexa referring to?
“What are you talking about?” he asked her.
“Who did you see me with? When?”
“Earlier on today, I saw you and her coming out of that hotel room!” Alexa proclaimed angrily.
“Don’t even think about denying it, Dante Romano. I know what I saw.”
Suddenly everything fell into place for the Don as realisation hit him like a bus.
Alexa was referring to his meeting with Sasha in room 608 earlier on that day.
Closing his eyes thankfully and letting out a relieved sigh, the Reaper lowered his head as he found himself smiling.
But this only fuelled Alexa’s anger.
“Are you actually smiling about this?” she demanded.
Holding out both his hands out in front of himself, Dante went on to try and explain the situation to her.
“Wait, you need to listen to me. I can explain this, all of it-” he tried.
“-I don’t want to listen to your explanations.” Alexa cut in over him.
“Just go, please. Leave me be.”
Now his expression hardened as his more dominant side emerged and he stood his ground, towering over her.
“I’m not going anywhere until you hear me out. Is that understood?” he declared.
Baffled by how careless he was being towards her, Alexa frowned as she looked up into his eyes.
Those same emerald-green eyes that she had loved staring into… once.
“The woman you saw me with, her name is Sasha Walters and she is my ex-fiancé.” Dante announced.
“I was at that hotel room because she said she had vital information on a plot to kidnap you from the wedding here today. A plot planned out by Matteo.”
Now Alexa was listening.
You could tell by the fixated look in her eyes.
“When I realised that she had nothing of any importance to share with me, I left the hotel room. That must have been when you saw me leaving.” he went on.
“Is that what this is all about? Did you think that perhaps I was… going behind your back?”
Alexa’s eyes welled up once more as a wave of guilt washed in over her.
Dante hadn’t cheated on her after all…
He was and had been as faithful as ever this entire time… and she had been the one to doubt him.
“Dante… I’m so, so sorry.” she began to apologize, lowering her head in shame.
But Dante would have none of it.
He reached out and lifted her chin back up with the end of his finger.
“Keep your head held high, Alexa Myers. Never lower it, not for anyone, do you hear me?” he proclaimed proudly.
“You are my woman, and my woman never bows to anyone. Got it?”
Then he did something that confused Alexa.
He got down on one knee as if proposing to her.
“Now, would you do me the honour of marrying me, here today, before these people we know and love. Please, say that you will.” he asked her.
She furrowed her brows inwards, unsure as to why Dante was acting this way.
Alexa still felt obscenely guilty for not believing in Dante and the shame was beginning to eat away at her.
“First, I need for you to answer a question…” she announced.
“Why would you want to marry someone like me? You can have anyone in the entire world, Dante. Any woman you desire. And yet you choose someone like me. I don’t understand why.”
Suddenly reaching out at the speed of light, Dante grasped at her chin, pulled her face inwards and held her it firmly in place as he looked deeply into her eyes.
He clearly had something important to tell her; something that he wanted her to remember for the rest of her days.
“Listen to my words well, bella…” he commanded.
“I want you…”
“I need you…”
“and I chose you… forever and always.”
With that, he slammed his mouth hard up against hers, igniting a passionate kiss between them; one that had Alexa’s toes curling inside her expensive white heels.
And when it finished, she felt somewhat saddened that it had.
“Now no more of this frowning… I won’t have my beautiful bride sad on her wedding day.” he announced, reaching into his jacket pocket and taking out his phone.
He then began dialling the phone number of the makeup stylist he had specially hired for Alexa.
It only rang once.
“Yeah, Helen? Dante here. I need you back in our suite asap. Alexa needs touch ups immediately before the ceremony can commence. Thanks.”
With that, he ended the call and repocketed his phone.
Alexa smiled at her man with thanks.
“Now, get yourself fixed and then get that sweet ass back downstairs so I can marry you, dance with you and then fuck you like crazy later on. Got it?” he commanded, heading straight for the door.
“See you downstairs in ten.”
