Prologue
To,
Conan Ambrose
It’s been years since our parents left us. At first, I was eager to know why would they leave their children alone inside a home, abandoned home perhaps. Then I stopped being bothered with their sinful act towards us, their children. I began to focus more on my younger brother, who needs my help since then. I can’t deny the fact that I almost gave up and left him in an adoption centre in the middle of our town, but I love him so much and I can’t abandon him the way our parents did.
It’s indeed a hard life, but I manage to study in a prestigious university. And my brother? Well, I was the one who is teaching him basic education that he needs. I wasn’t able to get him his own teacher as we’re not rich like other people. It’s not like my brother actually has problems; people fear him. He lives a normal life, just like me, but he experiences things I can’t experience.
As years go by, I began working with the local newspaper. I started working at the age of 19, wasn’t really fit for the work but I managed to do the basic skills required. I began writing articles for the newspaper just to earn enough pounds we needed to purchase our needs. I’ve been working there for 2 years now, and I’m able to gain the public’s attention due to my writing. I usually write articles about the crimes around the town, being able to help the local police station to gather information. But I can’t reveal who did the crime, I don’t have any skills for investigation. Yet, the police began to hire me as their investigator, I was hesitant at first, I know to myself I’m not capable of doing this, but then on I realise I can do it. Now I’m working for them for almost 3 months, known as the rookie of the squad.
That’s how life has been recently, Conan. I hope you receive this mail. Please don’t hesitate to send me a letter back. Hercule is waiting for you, he’s waiting for his best friend. Take care, Conan. See you once again soon.
Sincerely,
Louise Fletcher
