Chapter 1 (Anna)
The lights flashed within the darkness of my eye lids. The stage, it had always called me. As a child I would see myself on Broadway, playing Christine in ”The Phantom of the Opera" but now I am on the stage of The Vixen far away from Broadway.
I opened my eyes and the crowd of rowdy men and women cheered. I had made this place popular from the sex tapes and Playboy covers and articles I did. I wrapped my leg around the pole and leaned back thrusting my full hips into the bar as though it was a man.
I grabbed the bar with both hands and removed my leg, my heels made a faint click on the stage as the hip hop music played, money was stuffed in all edges of my lingerie. I slowly got on the floor and went into the semi splits thrusting on the ground while running my hand down my tongue seductively.
The song then faded off in the background, my set was over. I got up and gathered the cash laying around quickly for the next girl on stage. I slowly made my way off making sure all the cash was lined up properly. I hung my short dress over my arm as I walked back into the dressing room. I sighed pushing through the curtain, I sat down on the bench and slipped off my heels for a bit. I still had two hours left and only one private dance to do.
“I’m so tired already.” I said laying on the bench as a girl walked into the room. “Awe Anna don’t be like that. At least you’re getting paid. I was serving drinks and some asshole groped my breast.” She said, shivering. “I’m sorry Allie, men suck.” I said sitting up and sliding my dress over my head.
Allie then walked up behind me and started rubbing my shoulders. “Has anyone seen Carmen?” I heard someone yell in the hall outside the dressing room. Then an older woman walked in and gave us a look, “Have you girls seen Carmen? It’s her turn on stage and she hasn’t shown up.” She said, pushing her glasses up her nose.
“Sorry Cynthia we haven’t.” I said strapping my heels back onto my ankles. “Don’t worry girls, maybe Hannah will do a dance. Allie, would you cover her on the bar if she says yes?” Cynthia asked, Allie nodded as she reached for a hair brush. I felt the brush run through my hair.
“Thank you girls so much. I’ll pay you extra on your next paycheck.” Cynthia said, quickly vanishing out of the curtains. “Anna, you need your hair done. Come by the salon tomorrow and I’ll get you squared away.” Allie said as I felt her hands running through my hair putting it in a braid.
“Thanks Allie. You’re a lifesaver, Daniel has canceled on me eight times now for an emergency. But only for my appointments.” I said, popping open my small compact mirror and running my pink lip-gloss across my lips. “Why do you go to him when you have me? I’m just as professional as him.” She said, rolling her eyes sitting down next to me.
“Honestly I’ve just felt bad, I’ve been going to him for the past four years.” I said, standing up and slipping my lip-gloss and mirror into my purse hanging on the open locker door in front of me. “This is the fifth time Carmen hasn’t shown up. I think if she doesn’t show one more time I bet Cynthia is gonna fire her.” Allie said, adjusting her hair in the mirror and wiping mascara from below her eye.
I rubbed the back of my head. It ached from flipping it so hard when dancing. “Girl, you need to go easy. Your neck isn’t gonna be ok if you keep going so hard when working.” Allie said, turning around to me. “I know. I just lose track of everything and just go a little too hard.”
Allie was right, I always overdid it. Never thinking, just wanting the paycheck. But I also enjoyed it, you never had to have emotions toward these men. You just had sex got the cash and walked away.
And you have no idea how many desperate husbands are out there cause their wife ignores them.
“Anna!” I heard someone yell outside the dressing room. “Yeah?” I called back, Hannah showed up at the door in her normal white tee and cut-offs.
“Do you have a dress I can borrow? Some asshole spilled fucking beer all over my shirt.” She said pointing to the large wet spot on her shirt.
“Yeah come on over.” I said reaching into my locker and pulling out my extra dress I always keep in case someone needs it.
“Thank you, you’re a lifesaver. Cynthia wants me to dance cause Carmen didn’t show?” Hannah said, stripping off her white tee. “Yeah this is the fifth time this week. Last time she didn’t show Anna did two dances.” Allie said, sitting up on the table in front of the large mirror.
Hannah just shook her head like she wasn’t shocked by it. “Well not surprised. She’s been with this new guy Eli? I think. But she’s addicted to him.” Hannah said, pulling the tight red dress over her hips.
“Of course it’s a guy! Shawn came here extremely drunk wanting to see her.” Allie said, rolling her eyes.
“Shawn always creeped me out.” I said, shivering at the thought of Carmen’s ex. He was so weird, tall blonde but overbearing and jealous. Not to say he was abusive, Carmen would come to work with really bad make-up to cover up her bruises.
“Ugh. He wanted to pay me money to sleep with him. You’d have to pay me two million bucks to sleep with him!” Allie laughed, although there was a sense of reality in what she said.
“Well I have a private dance in room thirty for a bachelor party.” I said, adjusting the back of my dress to make sure it wasn’t showing my underwear.
“Go get a guy to spend the night with!” Hannah said, letting her hair out of her ponytail. I laughed, although I’d love to. The only way I’d spend the night with a guy anymore is that he is paying me.
“If there are any hotties send them my way!” Allie squealed as she walked out through the curtains. I just laughed as she left the room.
“Girl, we need men.” Hannah said, grabbing the lip gloss out of my hand. “Hannah, you know I don’t do relationships. They always wanna fix my life.” I said, grabbing my eyeliner and fixing her makeup.
“Awe Anna. I get it.” She said sitting on the bench and closing her eyes as I grabbed my eye shadow palette.
I just went quiet while fixing her eye makeup. “Girls! Is Hannah ready? Regan is holding them down for now but I need her ready like now!” I heard Cynthia yell.
“Almost done!” I yelled back. Quickly curling her hair with my curler.
“All ready. Go give those men some hell.” I said fluffing out her hair and spraying hairspray on it.
“Thank you Anna. You’re a lifesaver.” Hannah said, running out the door while throwing on her heels. I sighed and looked in the mirror one more time to make sure I had my makeup was on perfectly.
I looked to the curtain as I heard laughing going by. I sighed, and walked to the curtain and silently walked over to Cynthia where she was keeping an eye on the girls around the room.
“Hey girlie. Glad you got Hannah ready so fast. Your private dance will be here in about half an hour.” Cynthia said, laying her arm over my shoulders.
“Well with that being said I’ll go get a drink.” I said, slipping around the back of the room to the bar on the other side of the large room.
“Oh look, it’s little miss mascot!” Regan laughed while cleaning a glass. Her auburn hair bounced with her as she moved with the music.
“Oh haha Regan. Just because I bring in the most cash doesn’t mean anything.” I laughed, as Allie walked over from helping a group of people at the other side of the bar.
“Brandon’s back with your roomie Anna.” Allie said, motioning her head to the booth behind us. “Doesn’t Nora know he’s married back in Texas?” Regan said, shaking my drink in the shaker.
“She does, she just thinks he’ll leave his wife for her.” I sighed, turning back to the bar. “That’s just wrong. He has a son who is still only eight months old.” Regan said, pouring the drink into the glass while shaking her head.
“I know she’s a homewrecker. Hopefully the wife doesn’t know.” Allie said, walking down to some guys who were waving her down to the other side of the bar.
“Here’s your normal, my lady. A bloody mary extra vodka and a dash of whiskey.” Regan said settings eh bright red drink in front of me. “Thanks Regan. You make them the best.” I said sticking my straw into the cup and taking a large drink.
“Oh guess who’s coming over. Nora.” Regan whispered, looking behind me. “You mean Homewrecker?” I laughed whispering in her ear. We both then laughed, as I sat back into the barstool.
“Hey girlies.” Nora said, sitting down next to me. “Weren’t you supposed to watch Nick’s dog since he is at work?” I said, turning to her.
“Nick had a regular come by and said for me to get out of the condo. So I did, and Brandon surprised me. He’s here for a friend’s bachelor party.” Nora said, waving her hand to Regan to get her a shot.
Regan’s face said it all as she rolled her eyes grabbing the bourbon and pouring Nora a shot. “Oh that must be the bachelor party that booked me tonight.” I said, taking a sip of my drink.
“Oh nice. That must be why they came here. Or because I told Brandon it’s the best.” Nora said, grabbing the shot and throwing it back.
“Why aren’t you with your prince?” Allie said walking over, and teasing Nora. Nora threw the rest of her shot at her. “His friends are here and don’t know about us.” Nora said, sitting back into her barstool and looking back over at Brandon at the large booth to the right by the door.
“That’s a big group of at least fifteen guys. Are you sure you can handle Anna?” Regan said, refilling Nora’s glass. “Oh I can, I’ve had worse. Remember the group of twenty old guys? That was bad.” I said, taking a drink.
“You’ve got this Anna.” Nora said, rubbing my shoulders as she stood behind me. “Oh look here they come. Be ready Allie.” Regan said, tapping Allie’s shoulder. Allie nodded and set down the glasses she was carrying.
“Hey ladies. Can I get a whiskey on the rocks please?” One of the guys said, his Texas accent shown through in his voice. “No problem. Anything else for you?” Regan said, leaning on the counter and acting sexy. “You in my bed baby.” The guy said, running his tongue along his top teeth.
“Awe. That’ll be fourteen fifty.” Regan said, as the guy pulled out his cash. Regan took the cash and handed him the drink Allie had made behind her.
Each one had come up and got a drink except one, a younger looking guy who didn’t really know what he wanted.
“What can I get you young man?” Allie said, as Regan walked to the other side of the bar with some of the other guys.
“Long island iced tea please.” He said, his accent hit me, it was gentle and soothing. I turned to him. He took no notice of me, “You sure? You seem like this is your first drink.” Allie said, as he handed her his ID. He was stern with it, he turned to me and smiled. His blue eyes really hit with that tan skin he had, and that dark hair hanging by his ears under the cowboy hat.
Took my breath away, No Anna Bad Anna. No Men. I screamed in my head.
“Fifteen dollars even.” Allie said, setting the drink on the counter.
The guy rustled in his pants, “Oh Fuck. I don’t have my wallet.” He said, looking down at his pockets.
“Put it on my tab Allie.” I said, standing up and pulling out the money. I saw her face, she was surprised. “I’m Anna.” I said, holding out my hand to him.
“Beau. Thanks for the drink. I was gonna offer you a drink.” He laughed, the Texas accent was so deep and rich. “Glad I could get a Texas boy’s drink.” I winked, grabbing my drink and walking away toward the dressing room.
I walked to the corner that led to the dressing room. A guy stood in the hall not letting anyone in.
“Hey Spencer. Anything fun going on? Any women you’re gonna lay tonight?” I teased, punching his shoulder. “Oh yeah definitely. You’re the only girl who hasn’t given into me.” He said, grabbing my waist and picking me up off my feet.
“Oh you are such a playboy Spence.” I said, leaning my face to his. “But it’ll have to wait till after my dance. Then I’ll take you home and you can have the whole night.” I said, pressing my lips to his.
“I’ll take it, baby.” He said, running his tongue up my neck as he set me down. “Not here Spence. I have to get ready for my bachelor party.” I said, running my hand down his chest sadly there was a shirt in the way from his actual skin.
His brown eyes pierced me, His blonde hair was falling by his face, a little shine showed from his nose ring. I felt his hand run through my hair, “You are gonna make me hate every moment without you aren’t you?” He said, running the back of his hand along my face.
I slid past him and into the dressing room, Cynthia had come in after me. I was looking in the mirror fixing my lipgloss. “So did you find a guy to take home? Allie told me about the guy that you bought the drink for?” She said, sitting in the makeup chair next to me.
“No he was young and forgot his wallet and he’s with the bachelor party I am dancing for. I wanted to be nice.” I said, pulling out my mascara.
“You are one of a kind Anna. No man can get in your pants unless they have been trying for years.” She laughed, looking at her watch.
I took a deep breath, “Anna. You have like five minutes till your dance.” Cynthia said, walking out the door. “Thanks. I’m almost ready.” I said, sighing and finishing my makeup, again.
I shook off the jitters and walked out behind Cynthia. Spencer gave me a smile as I passed him, my heart skipped a beat at the way he looked at me.
It had been like this for months, flirting, kissing, him begging to have sex with me, and me ignoring the feelings I had for him.
And I finally was letting him in, what could one night hurt? I continued back around to the private rooms.
I could hear people in every room, it was the only place we were allowed to have the men touch us. A lot of girls only do private dances so they can basically bang all the guys in the room without getting in trouble.
Which I didn’t plan to do tonight, there would be three other girls there who would probably bang someone while I danced.
I walked into room ten, the biggest room we had. Three other girls were looking in the mirror fixing their makeup. “Oh Anna come help us, we don’t know what looks best?” They all complained. “Ok. I guess we have time before Travis lets them in.” I said walking over and checking their makeup and hair.
“Ok I’m sure you’ll look ok.” I said, stepping back and looking at them. “Did you get to see the group of guys who are gonna be in here? We haven’t been able to leave the private rooms tonight.” One blonde girl said.
“They are from Texas, they have the accent, and I don’t know who the groom is. But I’m sure you’ll get to bang one Sarah.” I said waving at her.
“Don’t all want to. Don’t you Anna?” Another girl said walking up behind me and rubbing my shoulders. “No. I have a date after work, Lacey.” I said, turning around to her.
“Hey girls, the guys are coming in, get ready.” Travis said, sticking his head through the door. I sighed as I walked to the pole in the middle of the room.
The sound of voices flooded in as the upbeat tempo started to play. I closed my eyes and just let my body dance to the music along the pole. Many of the guys whistled and I heard the other girls talking to them.
I shut my eyes and let my body feel the music and let the world drown out.
