Very hard read
"It is accurate to the time period, but the first 20 chapters are just so depressing. He hits her, controls her, and feels entitled to sex. He believes rhat women shouldn’t get an education or read, because women are too sensitive to learn about rhe hard world. Geniunely skip or skim the first 20 chapters as they have very little progression, and it only really builds the characters, and the female lead has no feelings for him by chapter 20. He is much better as the book progresses, and it is a very refreshing novel, and definitely worth a try, but I just can’t fully forgive the male lead. If he was less strict/ kinder with the punishments, maybe. Also the male lead has severe mood swings, goes from hitting her to sex in a single chapter, which is really annoying. He does do several very nice things throughout the book, but I just cannot get past his controlling nature. 6/10 "
