Prologue
Author's Note.
As the synopsis explains, this is a fanfic of Luce, the Vatican's mascot. I do so with respect as I have come to love the figure of Luce. It is a story with a mix of anime and novel, I hope you like it and give it a chance.
My name is Luce, I was born in the year 2025 in a town called Rosal in the new world.
I came into the world on a rainy afternoon in the hills of Rosal, my father was there to witness my creation. Thanks to him I am able to compose a faithful account of how God brought me to life.
My father Joseph had the revelation of my conception two days earlier. He says he was in the rain an hour before the events that brought me to Rosal. He carried with him a yellow raincoat and green boots (a gift from his late daughter) as well as a colorful rosary also a gift from his daughter.
With the Bible in his hand and the rosary, my father, at God's command, climbed the hills and waited in a clearing. He says that at three in the afternoon the rain intensified, condensing a spiral of clouds in the gray sky.
At one point, that spiral began to spin and a hole appeared in the center. Joseph opened the Bible and recited Psalm 91 out loud just as he had been told in his revelation.
Then a blinding flash emerged from the hole followed by a rumble of thunder and a thick thread of blue light descended to the center of the clearing.
My father protected himself from that strident event and continued reciting the psalm. “God was the guide in that chaos,” he would tell me later.
When the blinding light finally went out, my father contemplated a mass of mud that remained in the center of the clearing. “I was never afraid, daughter. God was the one who pulled the strings of all that, it was his designs and I was his faithful follower.”
My father Joseph approached that moving and swelling swampy mass. From there I emerged, face down, like someone coming out of water, struggling with my hands and arms, fighting to get out of that nest, still with my eyes closed and perhaps oblivious to existence.
My father helped me out of the mud. He says he has never seen a creature as perfect as me. “You had blue hair and eyes, a very beautiful blue that the mud could not harm.” Since I was naked, my father gave me his raincoat and boots. As a final gesture, when I finally opened my eyes, he put the colored rosary on me and gave me my name. “You will be called Luce, which means Light. You will always be a light in the darkness.” From that day on, I wear that clothing and that rosary when I fight with the domains and the King of Shadows that threaten the village of Rosal and the kingdom of the new world.
“If you are there, I will find you and banish you from these lands, in the name of God.”
