This was my first attempt at writing something outside of the thriller genre. I didn't expect to enjoy this as much as I did and there is so much of me in both of these main characters.
As for the cover, it is very special to me. My oldest daughter was studying photography in her sophomore year, and she took the photo for me to use as my book cover.
Marissa Connors has never really fit in at home with her perfect mom and her perfect sister. At only 18 years old, she had already been married, pregnant and divorced to raise her daughter, Vanessa, on her own. Merlynn Connors felt she always had to be perfect, to make things easier for her mom. She is a very successful host of her own cooking show and a single mom, thanks to a sperm bank, to a two-year-old, Addison. Both sisters felt they had something to prove to everyone. They have barely spoken since Merlynn went away to college, leaving Marissa feeling abandoned. That is, until their mom remarries and chooses to spend a year traveling the globe with her new husband. Suddenly, both sisters, now adults and mothers themselves, are back in the same house again. For Marissa, this is a chance to reinvent herself, prove that she can be more than the spoiled pretty face. This is her chance to step out of her mother’s shadow and be a real mom to her six-year-old daughter. For Merlynn, it is another challenge on top of trying to figure out what to do when her sperm donor suddenly wants to be in her daughter’s life.
