🌒 Chapter One: Ghost or Guy?
Love...
This word holds every power in this world, but it made me powerless.
How?
Well... it's a long story. About two years ago, a girl (yeah, that’s me) fell in love with a guy who didn’t even care if she existed — or at least that’s what she always thought whenever she missed him. She’d get really pissed off from the frustration of not meeting him anymore.
But that wasn’t the end for them...
The frustration wasn’t enough, so life decided to bring him back into her world right when she had finally moved on.
Well, that’s what she thought whenever she felt sad but tried to accept reality.
It all started on a day when she walked into an unknown building — just a curious 16-year-old without many worries. Well, not exactly unknown. We were going to live there for two months because my father had been promoted to a new position, and we moved. Just temporarily — we were buying a new home, but due to some paperwork issues and pending payments, our lives got stuck in a strange pause.
That pause turned into a brand-new experience: love and hate.
After we shifted into our new (but temporary) house, we were surprised — not in a good way. The rent was expensive, especially for the area, and the house was pretty small considering what we paid.
The first few days passed easily. I loved the area — it wasn’t crowded, and it was full of greenery. The building looked like it had walked out of a horror movie — not completely falling apart, but with that eerie vibe. It felt like the kind of place the innocent main female lead in those cliché dramas would live in. You know, the ones where she’s poor but kind, nature-loving, too innocent, disconnected from the world... and then, of course, a gorgeous guy protects her?
Gosh, I hate those movies.
But I still watch them just to roast them later.
The building was huge, shaped like a ‘C’, standing tall and covering most of the area. There was still space in front and in the center, but to my surprise, there was even more behind it. I peeked back there, wanting to explore — curiosity always pulled me in. I was the type to walk in the wrong direction just because it seemed interesting. You could call me another Dora the Explorer.
But of course, my mom came at the worst time, just when I was about to see what lay behind the building. My lazy self had been too caught up in thinking about movies and dreamy main leads instead of actually going to explore.
It was night. We were heading out for my dentist appointment — my cheek was swollen. Yeah, I had a puffy face, thanks to a bad tooth. But my curiosity flared again when I looked behind the building one last time. It was dark, but I could just barely make out trees, some grass, and a bench. I thought I heard laughter — not just one or two voices, but several. Kids? It sounded like children playing.
And then, I saw him.
Just a second.
Just his shirt.
There was a light reflecting from one of the building’s windows, and for a moment, I saw the side of his face. His profile. Only for a blink, but it stayed with me.
Who was he?
I didn’t know anyone here. Who were those children? I didn’t know them either.
They were laughing, probably having fun — unlike me, with my swollen cheek and academic pressure weighing me down.
He was tall, slim, not overly muscular, with sharp features.
Unlike me — short, chubby, dark-skinned, with glasses.
W-wait! Was I comparing myself to a boy now?
But he wouldn’t leave my thoughts.
I hadn’t even seen his face properly, and I didn’t remember his profile clearly anymore.
All I remembered was that slim neck, his tall frame, and his fair skin — so bright it seemed to shine.
