Chapter 1

Every little girl will watch one of the many Disney princess movies and wonder when their Prince Charming will show up?

I learned early in life that there was nobody coming for me. When the rest of the girls in class received cute little valentines day cards my little shoe box had only one card and it was a generic one that the teacher put into everyone’s shoe box.

As I got older and moved into middle school not much had changed. Guys would show interest but would quickly change their mind once they realized how quiet I was. I was never like the other girls. I didn’t hang out, or go to parties. And even in high school I was no different. So I kept to myself, focused on my studies and prepared for college.

Not to say that I’m not pretty enough to catch someone's eye. I just don't put myself on display. I see no need to be loud and obnoxious.

I don’t like that kind of attention. I don’t want anyone knowing my name.

Unfortunately, after my sisters wedding in two weeks everyone will know my name.

Her and her future husband John are successful lawyers. John is in the running to be the youngest mayor of New York City. So of course their wedding would make the front page of every news outlet.

I begged her not to choose me as her Maid of Honor. She has plenty of friends that would’ve relished being in the position. But no, I’m her BFFL so it has to be me. I love her to death, but I could strangle her. Especially right now as I get ready for the rehearsal.

The dress she bought for me is beautiful. It’s nude colored satin with crystals covering the bust. But its strapless, and doesn't even reach my knees.

I feel naked.

Having long hair that reaches just below my shoulder blades, I leave it down with big curls to use like a curtain to try and cover myself up.

As I touch up my lip gloss Celeste walks into the room.

“Oh my, Abby! You look stunning!” She clasps her hands and holds them over her heart. I turn around narrowing my eyes at her.

“Oh shut up.” She laughs at my discomfort but wraps me in a hug from behind to try and ease my nerves.

“Come on, John and his cousin slash body guard are down stairs waiting on us.” I quirk a brow looking back at her as I walk.

“Body guard? For what?” She swats my arm with the top of her hand.

“Be nice. And its because he’s a high profile lawyer that has put a lot of assholes in jail. Now that his face is out there even more with his campaign he’s had a few threats. So in order to keep us all safe, he hired his cousin to be his head of security and body guard.” I nod; taking the stairs a little slower than I usual due to the 4 inch heals she making me wear.

“There they are!” Johns voice echo’s through the foyer. “The two most beautiful women in my life!" I smile, keeping my eyes focused on the steps in front of me. "Abby that dress is stunning.” Only a few steps from the bottom I freeze when I look up and see, not John, but a tall dark haired and handsome stranger. His dark brown eyes are glued to me.

They seem to judge me and my dress. His eyes meet mine finally, but give nothing away.

He steps forward and extends his hand to me. I look at for a moment, noticing ink that wraps around the sides of his wrist and go under his sleeve before taking it. He helps me down the last few steps.

Grateful I didn’t fall, I crane my neck to look up him. His strong brow and chiseled cheek bones make him look godlike. He looks down his straight slender nose at me clenching his jaw muscles. His Beauty takes my breath away. “Thank you.” my voice is small but he catches it and nods once.

Turning away I see John and Celeste kiss gently so she doesn’t mess her lipstick. John turns opening his arms toward me for a hug. “Thank you for the compliment John. But I feel ridiculous.” I say looking down at myself.

“Nonsense! You look amazing as always. One day you’ll see it.” I pull away and Johns cousin is already holding the front door open for us. “Jackson let me introduce my future sister in law, Abigail. Abigail this is my cousin, and personal body guard Jackson.”

“Just Abby is fine. Nice to meet you.” He nods again and says nothing. Not much of a talker I guess. Good thing I’m not either. Celeste breaks the awkwardness thankfully.

“Let’s get this show on the road. The sooner we get the rehearsal done with, the sooner we get to party!” I flinch at her excitement and internally cringe. This is going to be a long night.

Maybe I can get Johns giant cousin to sneak me out and take me home early......

Jackson’s POV

“Just be nice, and try not to scare Abby. She’s a sweet girl.” Ignoring John I make my way to the steps hearing the girls chatter.

I clasp my hands together in front of me and wait. The sound of heels on the steps catches my attention. When I look up my eyes go right past Celeste and land on the blonde haired beauty behind her. She looks up from the steps and her big brown eyes meet mine. Immediately my heart starts to pound in my chest. She’s fucking stunning in her tight nude colored dress.

As she nears, she looks up and her big doe eyes lock on mine. I extend my hand to help her. She stops and looks at for a moment before placing her small hand in mine. Her warm skin on mine causes my breath to hitch in my throat and I clench my jaw trying to keep my composure.

“Thank you.” Her small voice sends shivers down my spine. I nod before she steps away to hug John and my eyes zero in on her perfectly round ass.

Forcing myself to look away I walk straight to the front door and open it. The sooner I get them out of the house the sooner I can get away from her.

“Abigail this is my cousin and personal bodyguard, Jackson.” Hearing our names together breaks my trance.

“Just Abby is fine. Nice to meet you Jackson.” I’ve never wanted to hear my name spoken out loud as badly as I want to hear her say it again. I stop myself from saying hello back and just nod. I never speak to anyone, but for some reason I want to speak to her. I’ll have to find a way to get her alone. Find a reason to hear her say my name again. But how?

Abby’s pov

The rehearsal was quick and painless. I just wish I could say the same for this damn after party. I’m exhausted and ready to go home. Trying to dodge family members is killing me. We’ve been here two hours already and there is still another two to go.

John’s dad gave a loving speech welcoming not only Celeste to the family but me as well. As I sit here with my fourth glass of champagne watching everyone on the dance floor I figure this is the best time to sneak out.

My eyes search the room looking for Jackson. When I find him I see that he is already looking at me. Embarrassed, I look back down blushing. As foolish as I feel, I can't back down now. I need to get out of here.

I down the last of my champagne, grab my clutch and make my way over to him. His eyes follow my every move making me burn all over. The closer I get though the more intimidated I feel and I’m ready to chicken out. But now I’m too close and it’s too late to abort the mission. When I’m right in front of him he quirks a brow. “Jackson,”

“Jax” he cuts me off. His voice is so deep and full of bass it shakes me to my core.

“J-Jax, sorry. Do you think you could sneak me out of here and take me home?” His eyes search the room for someone before he nods and extends his hand again. Breathing a sigh of relief I take it and follow behind as he guides us to a door at the back of the room.

As soon as he opens the door I see the black Bentley that we arrived in. When the door closes behind us my shoulders relax, finally being away from the loud music. He opens the back door and I raise a brow. “Can’t I sit in the front?” He quickly shuts the back door and steps over to the front opening it for me. I smile and thank him. As I try to step past him he puts his hand out again to assist me getting in. His cousin must pay him very well if he's being this curtious. When I sit he waits till I do my seatbelt before closing the door.

Once we are on the move, and I know there's no chance of my sister catching me I close my eyes and rest my head back against the headrest, letting out the breath I was holding.

“Not a fan of parties?” My eyes pop open looking at the ceiling in shock that he's talking to me. I slowly lift my head and turn to look at him. His big brown eyes are focused on the road.

“No, not really.” I pause for a second knowing that's a lie. “Actually, I hate them. I’ve never been a fan of loud music and sweaty body's rubbing against me.” He nods and says nothing. I turn my head toward the side window resting my head again.

“What are you going to do during the wedding then? Cant exactly sneak out when that happens.” he says with a smirk.

“Why? you wont be at the wedding?” I don’t know why but I actually feel disappointed at the thought of him not being there. He lifts a brow, and looks over at me. His eyes locking on mine.

“Don’t sound so disappointed Princess.” He chuckles, the sound of it does something to me. I actually have butterflies in my stomach. "I’ll be there.” his eyes go back to the road. “I’m the best man after all.” I blush and look down into my lap letting my hair cover my face.

“You stood outside though for the rehearsal. Somebody else was the best man.”

“I was working tonight. The day of the wedding, I’ll still be working but I’ll be keeping close to the bride, groom and you.” I look back up at the way he say's 'you'. Like he might actually care more to look after me.

Looking around I see we are in my neighborhood again. Relief washes over me knowing I’m so close to home, my sanctuary.

When he pulls around the driveway to the front door, he puts the car in park. As I reach for my seat belt he stops me. “Stay in the car.” I raise a brow but nod. I watch him as he gets out and makes his way around the car to open my door. It all makes sense now, he's suppose to let me out. Extending his hand to me, he helps me out of the car. After closing the door he catches up to me and places his hand on the small of my back.

“This really isn't necessary. I'm sure your cousin pays you well to make sure you watch after me, but I assure you I can get in the house just fine.” His long thick fingers gently wrap around my wrist when I take a step away, pulling me back.

“Is that what you think?” He steps closer. “That I only brought you home and talked to you because I’m being paid to?” My eyes raise from his hand to his eyes Bouncing back and forth between them.

“Yes. Why else would you be so attentive, or sneak me out and drive me home? Nobody talks to me other than John, or Celeste. Not unless they are being paid to be nice.” my eyes drop to my clutch in my hands as I fiddle with the clasp. His hand raises and with the side knuckle of his index finger he lifts my chin to look at him. My eyes mimic his darting between each of them.

“My cousin would probably kill me if I wasn’t nice to you, but he definitely wouldn’t want me anywhere near you. So no, Princess." he shakes his head slowly. "He didn’t pay me to be nice to you or talk to you. I don’t talk to anyone.” He takes a step closer, closing the gap between us.

My heart starts to race when I can feel the warmth of his body heat, and his minty breath on my face.

“I should go in. It’s getting late.” He nods watching my lips as I talk.

“Goodnight Princess.” He presses a kiss to my forehead, and slowly pulls his face away. It’s soft and sweet, but not what I really want at this moment.

When he attempts to step away I grab his long index finger in my tiny hand. He Looks down at my hand as he step back and faces me. I release his hand and squeeze my clutch in both hands. “What is it princess?” His hands rest on my hips and it gives me the courage to follow through. I curl my finger asking for him to bend down and when he does I wrap my hands around the back of his neck as I stretch on tip toe and press my lips to his. He freezes for a moment. But once he realizes what I’m doing, Jax groans against my lips. His hands snake around my back, to pull my body flush with his. Wanting a little more I tilt my head slightly, and open my mouth only planning to taste his lips. To my surprise Jax is in sync with me and I feel his tongue rub against mine. Tasting more than I could’ve hoped for.

I give him one last peck and pull away quickly; shocked at myself. “What's the matter?” his eye brows pinch together. My cheeks burn like never before.

“That was my first kiss.” His eyes flash with surprise, but he reels it back in quickly. His brow softens as he dips down to press his lips to mine once again. I close my eyes and revel in the feel of his soft, plump lips against mine. Lost in the kiss I moan when his hand has brushes up he front of my body, over my breast to my neck, his fingers curl around my throat applying slight pressure. I feel him smile against my lips.

When we slowly pull away, my heart is beating out of my chest.

“Good night Jax.” I whisper as I take a step back and start my trek up the steps.

“Sweet dreams, Princess.” I don’t turn around to look, but I know he stood there watching me go into the house. Once the door shuts, I press my back to it and let out the breath I had been holding that whole time.

What the hell just happened? How did that happen? I slap my hand to my forehead. That definitely can never happen again. I’ll chalk it up to a great first kiss, and cherish the memory.

I pray I don’t see him again before the wedding. I need to keep my distance from him. I'm not going to set myself up for disappointment. And I definitely wont tell a soul about what happened between us.

I nod my head agreeing with myself before making my way up to bed.
