What is your opinion?

Please, read this book! If you're unsure, read this review, first!

"*cracks fingers* Hey, you! Yes, you, reading this review! If you've read The Darkest Hour already, you probably know about everything I'm gonna say. If you haven't, buckle in and lemme tell you why you should! 1. Plot: Everyone loves a nicely written, heartwarming (albeit with it's ups and downs) love story, right? What makes this extra special is how the plot naturally blends the lives of Nadine and Charlie together! At first, it feels as if fate is hard at work. Then, both slowly realise what they mean to one another! Too many good and bad things happen (that I ain't gonna spoil) and the more they grow attached to one another, the reader grows attached to both of them! We just cruise along for the ride! 2. Characters: I ain't gonna lie, I knew Nade and Charlie already! There is another book (a sequel if you will) called: Two to Twelve where their story goes on! It was simply too much fun to read it! So, I came back, looking for their origin story! I find the way Charlie and Nade think to themselves and interact with the world around them very relatable! Each thought, each desire and even each mistake all sound and feel "human". We all have thoughts like theirs from time to time. One moment, we are happy, the next we are sad or angry. We get our hopes up only to realise (or imagine) it was all for naught... You can't lie to me, reader! I know you've also been there! Even the side characters offer something! Either acting as meanigful plot devices or simply making the world feel lived in. Colorful, if you will! 3. Dialogue: Not much to say here, honestly. I am a sucker for good natural sounding dialogue! The Darkest Hour checked all my boxes on that end! Add humor to the equation and there you have it! 4. Visuals: Yes, you read that right! Visuals! When words and sentences help you easily paint a picture of a scene in your mind, that's what I would categorise it as! Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, by the way! So, yeah! D.R Solo's words helped me actually "see" the story! How the characters move. What their patterns and "signature moves" are. What expressions they are making and so, so much more! It was as if a movie was being played back to me! All I had to do, was reconstruct the image as I read the script! Now, I could get into more technical things and the such but, I don't consider myself qualified enough to do so. What I can tell you is how I felt reading this. I said this about Two to Twelve and it held steady for The Darkest Hour, too! This book kept me company throughout the day! If there were more hours in a day, I'd probably binge it all in a matter of, say, three days! I simply HAD to know what happens next! I know, I risk sounding like a broken record but, for real, this wasn't just another story! It meant something to me! The characters in it became real people whose lives I cared for and watched closely, eagerly awaiting for the next step! So, with that in mind, thank you D.R Solo. Thank you for letting me be part of the world of Nadine and Charlie for one more time! Like you, I don't even feel ready to say goodbye to your characters... Your biggest fan! (maybe? Idk! Haha!)"

Detective Sitcom

"This book gives me a Law & Order vibes with a side of humor. Each chapter feels like an episode with a little bit of everything; Drama, mystery, humor and anger. Because boy does Charlie make me angry...🫣 The chapters flow quickly, making this a quick read. It keeps you engaged and a little bit stressed. This is a will they won’t they, as the two MC’s are not very good at reading their own energy and chemistry. I wanted more of the detective work, and mystery, but the book is worth it. "

Couldn't put it down.

"This had all of the fun parts of a crime drama, without any of the draggy bits, which provided a really fun backdrop for a steamy romance. I had a lot of fun reading it."

Spicy sitcom with a side of murder! :P

"I'll admit that going in, I thought this was going to be a detective mystery...but it wasn't really :P The story is actually about the will-they-won't-they of Charlie, eminent young detective, and Nadine, true-crime podcaster. As they banter their way through some murder-y bits, Charlie and Nadine have to figure out how they really feel about each other...and what they're gonna do about it. The chapters are bite-sized and episodic, reminiscent of a sitcom - easy to weave in and out of while reading on your commute :) There's a generous serving of 🌶 spice 🌶 throughout, and an HEA. The writing flows well, and while I would have appreciated a bit more introspection/plot depth at times, this was above all a very, very fun read! Highly recommended if you're looking for some 18+ laughs 😏"

Crime scene meets romance

"This isn't the first book I've read by this extremely talented author, and it certainly won't be the last. Once again, she has managed to captivate me with this enchanting story from the very first page. A crime thriller and love story with plenty of wit and charm. Dive in and get to know Charlie and Nadine. A book that is an absolute must for the bookshelf of all lovers of crime thrillers and romance! "

Not Too Dark :) A Worthwhile Love Story

"From the get-go, the main character is introduced as a competent, able detective, but you later discover he has a fun side - maybe he’s even had too much fun. Nadine’s intro is quite spicy, but she turns out to be much more reserved and timid in comparison to Charlie. Both characters are very layered and fun to read, particularly their interactions with each other, but the supporting cast is also good and the world-building is well done. There is some violence and some tense moments, but nothing that would scare readers away. The pacing is very well done and was to my taste for a love story, although some of Charlie’s escapades were a bit jarring and painted him in an unflattering light. The ending was almost right out of a movie, and felt satisfying, but with me still wanting a bit more. Plenty of humor, and 3-dimensional characters. The additional short story that fills in some of the gaps is a good read on its own as well. Altogether, this is an engaging, sensual, and sometimes jaw-dropping tale that covers issues of love, insecurity, trust, and patience. I was always excited to read it and see what came next. Keep an eye on this author. She’s going places 😎 "

Gripping crime story

"This book is masterfully written, unfolding like a gripping crime series with endless twists and turns. The characters are beautifully crafted, making them incredibly easy to connect with. Nadine, with her true crime podcast, and Charlie, the murder investigator, bring a perfect balance of tension, intrigue, and depth. The storytelling is immersive, seamlessly blending mystery and emotion—with just the right touch of spice in between. An absolute must-read! "

A fun ride indeed

"There is so much to like here. Mystery. Intrigue. Crime solving. Scorching chemistry. Interesting characters. Shenanigans. Mistimed sexscpades. The vein of humour. Bad decisions. it's fun rollercoaster of a work adjutant romance. Both the Mcs have careers that intersect and the tension betwwen Nadine and Charlie. The slow burn between them is such fun.Few can balance interesting characters, a plot, and scorching chemistry so well, so kudos. I really had fun reading The Darkest Hour. "

Fun and Spicy with a little Crazy!

"Charlie, police detective extraordinaire, has an interesting life. Blood and gore by day and a couple less than wise choices by night. Then you have Nadine, who’s not so bad at deductive reasoning herself, and is a true crime podcaster. The crimes they solve are ingenious in their design and their banter is fun to follow. They eventually figure it out after a couple of missteps with some questionably sane people. Definitely an enjoyable read!"

Charlie's Darkest Hours

"I don't like spoilers, so I'll try not to say too much... So, after reading the book, I can say that I enjoyed it. Since I love detective stories, this story was no exception. Although, of course, I would like more riddles. Throughout the book, I worried about Charlie, sometimes even too much (and it's very good that my fears did not come true). The events in the book take place quite dynamically and are filled with both funny moments and spicy, and sometimes shocking ones, which adds certain shades to the book. Despite the fact that this is a detective story, the main emphasis is still on eroticism. At least, that's how it seemed to me. The atmosphere of the book somewhat reminded me of “Castle” and “NCIS”, which I really love. It is written beautifully, even cleanly (I don't pay much attention to minor inaccuracies, because every author will see them later when editing and correct them, so that's normal). Usually it is important for me that the author can transport the reader to the “filming set” of his story, if this happens, then I will definitely say that he is a skilled author. Therefore, I can confidently say that I felt like I was on the set of the author's podcast. Thank you for that. I wish the author inspiration and beautiful and high-quality books."

Hot, steamy, suspenseful and exciting!

"This book isn’t just about steamy romance, though—it’s a masterclass in creating tension. Every scene is filled with anticipation, and the stakes get higher as the story progresses. By the time you reach the climax, you're left breathless, eagerly turning the pages for the thrilling conclusion. If you're looking for a novel that combines sizzling chemistry with heart-pounding suspense, this one is a must-read. It’s a rollercoaster of emotions, offering the perfect blend of steamy romance and edge-of-your-seat action!"

A Worthy Title for the Book's Genre!

"This is absolutely a book I would enjoy reading when we have our frequent blackouts in the nights, cosy up with a cup of tea and some biscuits! I am blown away how each chapter comes together like a scene being played out, and at the end you feel satisfied because no detail is missing or left open-ended. I am now on chapter three, and will continue to enjoy this, and will save this for a black-out day. This is great work. Keep it up, author! You have me feeling as if I am the one solving cases too! Simply amazing work!"

The Darkest Hour

""I really enjoy the plot of this story. The detective cases, romance, conflict, and humor are perfectly balanced. What I love most is how the story embraces what it's meant to be without trying to be something else. While I'm not a fan of erotic scenes, the overall narrative is incredibly engaging and keeps pulling me in. To be clear, this story is fantastic, and I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds!""

Suspenseful erotic detective, love to read more!

"Easy reading. Love the tension build up between the two main characters. Detective cases are written very well as part of the setting of the book (chapter 1 and 2), but without overshadowing the dynamics between the 2 main characters. Erotic scene does it while having humor in it as well (chapter 3). Hope to read more of these as the story progresses. Looking forward to see the story evolve further. Hope it can live up to this promising start!"
