A LIFE IN THE IN-BETWEEN
In the geometry of shifting horizons,
The pendulum swings between then and now.
Between the cadence of silence and sound,
There’s peace and chaos all around.
Between the breaths of night and day,
I lose myself yet, find my way.
Between the echo and screams of joy,
I smile and bleed all the way.
Summers and winters come and go,
Fall and spring, transition follows.
Monsoon, the gloomy fellow,
Hurricane, el feral amigo.
How does it feel to be cold?
Craving for warmth, and then letting go.
Shiver and chills creeping on board,
Heat escaped, oh no.
Reality—a haunting presence,
Real-tea it gives.
Ideality—a beautiful illusion,
A deal it doesn’t make.
Flickering Fascination and Fortress of Faith,
Frenzy Fantasy, a Fragrant Fiction.
Fear’s Frost and Fervor’s Flame,
Fragile Freedom, a Futile Fusion.
Sand and stones,
Mud and clay,
Ice and water—same?
No, but similar, okay!
Pursuit of Perfection, a Panicking Paradise,
Pity and Praise, a Paralysis undenied.
Pools and Pyres, Pinnacles’ Pride,
Power to Precision, Purity required.
Between the lines of what’s lost and found,
The Life in the In-Between, a merry-go-round.
I swing and slide, bound to wound,
Wanting escape but captured abound.
Alzheimer’s, Dementia, and Amnesia —are somewhat similar and somehow different.
But memory—a subsiding conjure,
an ominous presence, an Oculus Contour.
But, in the dance of deception, everyone plays a role.
Debbie Downer to reach the mind,
or shrug it off? Takes a second.
Time—to utilize or to waste,
show priorities apprehended.
In a nutshell, who makes amends?
The one you love, or the one who loves you?
