Prologue
Long ago, the world was in crisis. Birth rates had dropped rapidly. To every 6 males to be born one female would be born. Unable to figure out why this was happening the world’s leading scientists began to do experiments on the inmate population, testing out a serum that would effectively create sub-genders allowing for the impregnation of a percentage of the male population, along with the ability for females to impregnate.
Once this serum was perfected after 50 years of unrelenting work the worlds nations joined together to create a bomb, not just any bomb, one that after detonation would cover the entire earth spreading the serum like a virus that would infect the entire world population that had not already gone through puberty. Causing changes to their DNA make up and the creation of the sub-genders. Thus ridding the world of its population problem. Now, under the category of both male and female there were 2 sub-genders Alpha and Omega. Besides the 2 sub-genders were those who had a gene which caused them to remain unaffected by the virus, called Betas.
Male and female alphas were able to impregnate female betas, and male and female omegas. Beta males could only procreate like a normal heterosexual couple would with a female beta or female omega. And then the omegas both male and female could only be impregnated by an alpha male or female. In fact it was frowned upon at the dawn of this new age for a Beta male or female to be in a relationship with a male omega because of the inability to procreate with them. This was the way things were for over 100 years. Until the decline in percentage of male omega births.
t was an unexpected outcome that none of the scientists could have predicted. Thus making the male omega the most coveted of all sub-genders. In the past few years the news has reported that for every 50 males that were born 1 would be an omega. Scientists were unable to predict when a male omega would be born because it was only when they went through puberty that they would manifest. They also couldn’t fix the problem because the world governments made it illegal to do any testing on male omegas due to the low birth percentage. Once a male or female omega manifested they were required to register at the Department of Omega Protection and Placement Services or DOPPS for short. The number of registered omega males versus omega females was astonishing, 100:1. Of course having female omegas and female betas that could be impregnated was helpful towards the increase of the world population but, the amount of male versus female birth rates declined as well with the percentage of male omegas.
Now for every 10 males that were born 1 female was born. The world was becoming over populated with male alphas and betas, and female alphas as they could not be impregnated. What they thought would be a solution to the problem ended up not fixing much at all. Male omegas once manifested started to be kidnapped and trafficked all around the world. Many people wanted to exploit male omegas selling them solely for breeding purposes. Omegas became the constant victims of assault, rape, and trafficking.
With the addition of the sub-genders came pheromones, ruts, knotting, heat cycles, suppressants, blockers, mating, and marking. Alphas and omegas produce pheromones, they are used as a method of attraction and for some can be overwhelming. They can also be used to repel. Additionally alphas have a way of releasing calming pheromones to help an omega in distress. An omegas pheromones can cause an alphas rut and vice versa.
Male and female alphas have a rut. Once every 3 months after their manifestation they go into a rut. A rut consists of the strong sexual desire to mate with an omega for the purpose of impregnating. During this period which lasts from 3 days to a week an alpha’s pheromones become very strong and in some cases uncontrollable. In some cases it leads to nonconsensual sexual acts against an omega, which can result in unwanted pregnancy when knotting is involved.
Omegas experience what’s called a heat cycle which if they are regular, happens once every 3 months. Some omegas report once every 6 months or even once a year. During their heat cycles which last 5-7 days and omega has the desire to become impregnated. Many alphas and omegas will seek a partner to help them during this time as the only thing that offers any type of relief is the pheromones of the other, besides just waiting it out until it’s over.
In order for an omega to be impregnated knotting during a heat cycle is required. This is when the head of the penis swells and becomes lodged in the uterus. Knotting during a rut mixed with an omega in heat has almost a 100% chance of impregnation unless birth control or other forms of contraceptives are used.
Suppressants and blockers can be used by both sub-genders. Suppressants if taken in a regular basis with prevent an alpha from rutting and omega from going into heat. Blockers prevent the spread and detection of pheromones. Meaning if an alpha or omega takes blockers daily their scent will not be present. This means that if an alpha or omega regularly take both suppressants and blockers that can effectively hide their sub-gender. Many omegas use them as a form of protection against unwanted alpha advances.
Mating and marking usually go hand in hand. A mate is a relationship in which two parties agree to be bonded. They will reproduce together, much as you would see in a normal heterosexual marriage. This usually consisted of alpha-omega and beta-beta relationships. As long as the couple is able to reproduce they are considered mates. Marking is very important in a mating situation. This is when an alpha and omega will bite each other on their scent gland, which resides on the back of their neck and is where pheromones are produced. This effectively creates a lifetime bond between the pair, resulting in the inability to mate with anyone else. It also mixes the pheromones of both party which shows other alphas and omegas that they are unavailable. A mate mark must be consensual between both members as non consensual marking is illegal. The only way to break a mate mark is death.
Some people even believe that with the addition of sub-genders also came the concept of a fated mate. This means that there are supposed to be alphas and omegas that once smelling the pheromones of each other will develop a connection similar to what one would call a soulmate, meaning the pair are meant to be together. A fated mate marking is not breakable by death. When one member of the mated pair dies it is said to be extremely painful for their mate. They are unable to mate with anyone else after the death of their mate, unlike that of a regular mated pair. Most don’t believe in fated mates though which results in the mating and marking between and alpha or omega that love each other or feel comfortable with one another.
