Chapter 1

I woke up to the sound of the alarm, it was one of the same damn days. Wake up at 6 a.m., get ready, get on the subway with everyone else, go to the mandatory work assigned to you, leave work at 5 p.m., return to your little house in your cold gray building before the curfew that starts at dusk. 'Damn this system and damn the vampires,' I thought to myself and got up from my hard single bed. There was nothing in my room except a single bed, a desk, a wardrobe and my potted plant that was trying to hold on to life like me. I made my way to the restroom at the end of the corridor. As in the whole house, white tones and dark wood dominated here. I combed my long wavy brown hair with my hands, they were tangled together as I slept. 'It's nice to have another morning when I feel like everything is coming together.' I looked at my wheat-skinned face in the bathroom mirror and my honey-colored eyes with dark circles under the eyes from lack of sleep, I covered my under eyes with small touches and fixed my eyebrows. 'You are still very beautiful, girl, you are too much for this world. ' I kissed the mirror and went back to my room to put on my black blouse with straps and dark brown pants and shoes, I was late, I poured my coffee into the thermos and left the house. I joined the human herd and started walking towards the subway, it was as gray as it could be, the vampires had a technological curtain around the cities to suit themselves, so that they were minimally affected by daylight, but since they politely 'loathed' us humans, most of them went out after dark, in other words, when the human curfew came. I quickened my pace so as not to be scolded by my vampire-loving boss, few humans could interact with the vampires to do their daytime work and even fewer could qualify to become one of them and be turned. The transformed gave me goosebumps, the thought of being transformed was chilling. My job was journalism. Being a senior writer allowed me to live in a safe neighborhood in the city. I was a bit lucky because before the vampires took over the world, my mother was a columnist 'Oh my dear mother.' Of course, it was nothing compared to what I do now, now I had to write whatever the vampires said, in the old days I could write whatever I thought just like my mother, I had the freedom to defend anyone who was wronged. Freedom, I sighed, when the vampires took over there were no humans left in the top positions or decision makers, since then we had to live by their rules 'Freedom is like a concept from centuries ago.' However it had only been 18 years 'I'll be 25 in a month, more than half of my life.' Autumn was starting to show its traces, I had finally made it to work, my rat-faced boss was nowhere to be seen. I quickly went to my office, it was a two-story journalism and advertising company with 9 rooms in total, one big space on each floor, my floor was downstairs with all the journalists, the boss's room, the meeting room, my room and the big space were 4 rooms, upstairs were the advertisers and there was an extra room for lunch break, The company was gray, as if representing the dark life of vampires. There was a long corridor separating the rooms. The windows were few and of minimum size in case the vampires came in. The only thing that gave the company color was the blood red seating in the boss's room. I shook my head from side to side and buried myself in the work on my desk, the work to be done had already piled up, the workload had increased because the inspector was coming to the company tomorrow, but I liked that, after all, the more I worked, the faster the days would pass. We knew from the voice of the inspector that he was a man, but there were rumors that he had been transformed had everyone excited, and nothing else had been talked about in the office for days. How did it feel to be transformed? Was he handsome? Did he eat food or drink blood? Was she single? Unlike vampires, changelings were not affected by daylight at all, were slower but stronger and could easily handle the daytime tasks of vampires, and were often known to intermarry with humans, Unlike vampires, it was also possible for female humans and male converts to have children, so most marriages ended after the child and the children became converts when they reached a certain age, but how did vampires work? This method would have been cruel even to vampires, as it was forbidden even among them for centuries and as far as we know, it had a severe punishment. vampires drank the blood of humans to the last drop and then drank their own blood to humans, most of them did not survive this bloody event, and the few who did woke up as vampires, The divorced or separated spouses did not talk much about it either, preferring to live in towns far away from the city. That's why there were so many different voices about the coming inspector. I couldn't deny my inner voice, I was secretly curious about the inspector who was coming, I had never seen a transformed person before, unless you count my mother, I thought, but I quickly gave up that thought, no, I would always remember my mother as a human being, that's how she would want to be remembered. The door to my room opened without a knock, of course, it was none other than my boss who saw the whole floor as his property, I rolled my eyes, not caring if he saw it. 'Yes, sir, is there a problem?' As if there was no question he had to answer, he sprawled on the seat in front of my desk, he was examining my name tag and family photo on my desk in slow movements as if he had never seen them before, he stretched to sprawl even more on the seat as if it was possible, smacking his mouth, 'You seem very happy to see me, Luna. ' I think the answer was finally coming 'You will deal with the inspector.' I involuntarily jumped out of my seat 'No I can't deal with him, you know how disgusted I am.' As if he hadn't been the one who had made the heavy gestures two seconds ago, my boss jumped up quickly and waved his index finger in my face 'If I could, I wouldn't even let you out of your room that day, but it is the inspector's special request that you deal with him, whatever you did to deserve it!' He said and left the room. I wanted to smash his ugly flat face and red bald head, what did I do to deserve it, and did he really think that I thought that dealing with a transformed person was deserving, especially after what happened to my family? When my boss left, my good friend Alina burst into the room with her long blonde hair, fair skin and deep blue eyes. Someone who didn't know she was human could have mistaken her for a vampire, she was the only person I had let near me since I was on my own, or you could say she was the only one who could tolerate me. “What's he saying?” she asked with a grimace, but she quickly straightened her expression, and I involuntarily lost my temper, unlike me, she didn't really hate people, even the transformed and vampires, she always looked for the good in them, and even though I was angry with her, I loved that about her. Alina quickly closed the door and sat down in the black leather armchair where our boss had just gotten up. She didn't know whether to be excited at the word “transformed” or feel sorry for her friend. I grinned involuntarily, she was relieved by my grin 'Are you okay?' she asked as she glanced at my family photo, she was worried that it would take me back to old memories and she wasn't wrong, that old ache was creeping back into my heart, I had tears in my eyes and I wanted to change the subject, I had promised myself a long time ago not to cry. 'Are you excited to see a changeling?' Alina knew I was asking this to change the subject, but she didn't let it bother her and she was really excited about it. 'What do you think he's really like? I don't know if she was really asking about skin temperatures or if she was talking about emotions, but this question gave me a little bit of excitement. Could they be people who only have vampire fangs, maybe it would reduce my hatred for my uncle, I thought. 'Maybe he's an icy old man with a goblin face who can't wait to suck the blood out of all of us. I said and laughed. Alina laughed too. 'Okay, I'll run away, we have a lot of work to do until tomorrow.' She turned to me before she left the door and said, 'Maybe he's so handsome and young that you'll fall into his warmth and make a lot of babies.' I held up the files in my hand as if I was going to throw them at her, and when she saw my reaction, she grinned and ran out of my room. I thought to myself that he was crazy, but she was right about one thing, there was a lot of work to be done and I needed to do work to distract myself. I buried myself in the files on my desk again and didn't get up from where I was buried until the evening, I didn't realize that the time had passed so much, the subway services must have ended, the curfew would start in half an hour and my house was 20-25 minutes walking from the office, I started to pack my things immediately. “Damn it, I couldn't break the vampire's leg today.” Since there was no one in the office, I didn't pay attention to my voice and shouted, I was startled by a loud voice coming from inside, ‘Vampire's leg?’ The voice asked, my face wrinkled, I sigh silently, what an arrogant question, ‘You don't need to sigh, you're going to break the devil's leg, not the vampire's.’ Where did he hear me sigh, I still couldn't understand where the voice was coming from, ”What difference does it make, either the devil or the vampire. 'I said and headed for the exit but I was prevented from walking, the owner of the voice was quickly nose to nose with me, my back pressed against the wall, I could feel his rapid breathing on my face, he was pressing his body against me as if he wanted to show his strength, he was a vampire 'What did you say little human?' I swallowed, I couldn't breathe from the weight of his body, behind his woody smell he smelled of violet and blood, the smell made me swallow, I thought blood, human blood, I looked into his eyes, I wanted to stand firm but it hurt. He stepped back and I saw a second of sadness in his eyes, I lifted my head to look at his face more carefully, his dark brown hair looked as if he had just gotten out of bed, which was ironic considering they hadn't slept, his black eyes formed a whole with his pupil, his eyes had a mischievous look in his eyes, his chiseled jaw and broad shoulders gave a tough look, even in his plain black t-shirt and jeans he was perfect, what was I talking about, I should be nauseous right now, but I couldn't take my eyes off his jet black eyes. “Did you get a good look at me, little human devil?” A smile formed on his face as he realized his own handsomeness. My voice was cold and angry in a way I hadn't expected even from myself, and his voice had turned into an angry hiss 'Hasn't your curfew started yet' I didn't answer, he came closer to me again and leaned in close to my ear 'or have you come to beg to be my little blood whore? ' I pushed as hard as I could and he staggered back a step or two 'I'd rather throw myself among hungry lions than stick my neck out for someone like you, and who's to say you're not here to beg me, after all, I'm the one who's been here all morning and you're the one who's been eyeing me up and down like you're going to eat me.' Yes, I liked myself, but I never expected to hear that flirtatious voice, and I was the one who was eyeing him up and down just a moment ago. ' Just as I was about to open my mouth and reply back, he silenced me, his angry look had disappeared and his confident smile had returned, he pointed to the clock and the curfew had already started 'You'd better go, be careful.' It was more like a warning than a thoughtful attitude, I didn't want to listen to him, I even wanted to defy him with all my being, but I had to get home before it was too late and if possible before I met any vampires. I quickly walked out of the office and looked at his face for the last time as I walked past him, I had his confident half smile on my face, I was beautiful and I knew it 'I hope we never meet again, it was not a pleasure.' The grin on his face widened 'It was a pleasure, little human, you will count the days until you see me again. ' It was very dark outside and for the first time I wasn't breaking the curfew. Some days I would go to Alina's house, and since I couldn't sleep anywhere but my own bed, I would sneak back to my house after she and her family were asleep. I was running as unobtrusively as possible on the outskirts, that strange feeling in the office seemed to be following me, but every time I looked behind me I couldn't see it, it was probably better not to see it, I didn't understand why I had such an expectation, the farther away from the vampires the better. When I reached my house, for the first time in a long time, it felt like home, home, home, beautiful home. I immediately took off my clothes and threw myself on my bed. 'One more promise, no more breaking the curfew.' Then I left myself in the soft arms of sleep, tomorrow was going to be a tiring day.
