Chapter One

The rain pelted against the window seal as Ryan waited for any news on his hiring for the new TV series Darkwood Alley. As he stared out the window, watching the raid drizzle down from the sky, he couldn't help what role he would be playing in this highly controversial mystery show. Suddenly, the ring of his cell phone caught his attention. Quickly snatching up his phone, he answered it with trepidation. Hello, Ryan Wulf speaking. I responded, a mix of eagerness and fear present in my voice. Hello, this is Aaron Rodney, I have good news, Ryan. Aaron hummed. Really, tell me! I begged, brimming with barely contained excitement. With a deep breath, Aaron spoke. Congrats, you have made the part, Ryan. Aaron said, a hint of happiness in his voice. Fuck yeah! When do I start? I screamed ecstatically. Aaron cuckled on the other line. As soon as you're ready. Ryan spoke calmly. Great! Just tell me where we meet and I'll be there faster than you can shake a fan at me! I said as I jumped out of my bed. Good, meet me at 2245 Salvodale Rd. It's where the shoot will be taking place. Aaron said, a mirthful chuckle escaping his lips. On it, what time and day? I asked while scrambling to get dressed. Meet me tomorrow at nine am sharp, and be prepared this location is pretty far off. Aaron warned. Alright, I'll stay safe, sir. I said with an excited squeal. Aaron chuckled at Ryan's excited squeal. Alrighty then, see you tomorrow, Ryan. Aaron said, his voice carrying a bit of excitement as well. Will do that, Mr. Rodney, see you then. I said, still brimming with raw emotion. Okay, you take care now, Ryan. Aaron said with a small chuckle. You too, sir. I said before ending the call. With a chuckle, Aaron ended the call, leaving Ryan to prepare himself for tomorrow. As soon as the call ended, Ryan let out a triumphant whoop of joy. I can't believe they hired me! I'm so fucking jazzed! I shouted to myself while running around my apartment. After himself down, Ryan took his car keys and made his way over to his Honda Civic. Once he got there, he hopped inside and made his way over to the store to buy himself a well-earned bottle of wine. After scoring some wine, Ryan headed home to celebrate. After settling down on his sofa, Ryan fixed himself a small glass of wine and turned on his TV. However, a knock at his door startled him. With a disgruntled groan, Ryan got off his sofa and made his way over to the door. Hello? Who's there? I called out hesitantly. It's me, Noah. Noah responded with a joyous tone. Oh, Noah, it's been a minute. I said with a small laugh. So, what brings you here this late at night? Well, word around the grapevine is you got the role. Noah said with a mirthful chuckle. You're damn right I did! I said, my body vibrating with excitement. Well, are ya gonna let me in or not? Noah asked with a hum. With a chuckle and a shake of his head, Ryan let his childhood friend into his dirty, one-bedroom apartment. Noah stepped inside and took in the mess of pizza boxes and the occasional wrapper of gum on the floor. Damm Ryan, this place is horrid! When was the last time you cleaned? Noah asked with a gag. Sorry... I've been so focused on getting this spot that I kinda forgot to clean up... I admitted sheepishly. Well, start cleaning! The last thing we need is for your boss to come in and see the travesty that is your apartment. Noah ranted while waving his hands. Geeze dude, I'll clean! I groaned as I started to pick up the random pizza boxes that were strewn across my apartment. Good, we can't have your new boss finding out that you live in this mess. Noah said as he clapped me on the back. I only groaned and shook my head at my friend's compliment. After a short while of cleaning, Ryan got his living room cleaned up. Once it was finished, Ryan plopped down on his sofa and patted the seat next to him. Noah, come join me, I'm celebrating with a glass of wine and a charcuterie board. I said, gesturing to a board covered in a wide variety of cheeses and meats. Well, I suppose a little bit of wine couldn't hurt to indulge in some cheese too. Noah said, a small chuckle escaping his lips. Noah then made his way over to the sofa and took a seat next to Ryan. With a chuckle, Ryan poured two glasses of sparkling wine and held one up. Here's to my new job as an actor! I said, a cheerful smile spreading across my face. Noah chuckled and held his glass up as well. Here's to your new life in the spotlight. With a clink of our glasses, both I and Noah took a sip of our wine while letting out cheerful whoops of joy. Then, with a chuckle, Ryan picked up a small slice of gouda cheese and popped it into his mouth with a delighted hum. For the rest of the evening, Ryan sat alongside Noah while chatting about his excitement for this new lease on life. After a glass of wine and a shit ton of cheese, Noah got off the sofa with a grunt. Well... I should get going, Ryan... I don't want to keep you up too late. Noah said, a mirthful chuckle falling from his lips. Yeah, I should be heading to bed anyway, I have to be there at Nine o'clock sharp. I said, a small smile forming on my lips. Yeah, I don't want to keep you up now. Noah chuckled deeply. Noah then pulled Ryan in for a tight hug. Good luck, buddy, and go break a leg. Noah said, giving me a firm slap on my back. I only chuckled and hugged Noah back. I'll try my best. I said, a small, hopeful smile gracing my lips. After a long hug, Noah and Ryan parted ways, leaving Ryan to think about his future and what it would hold for him.
