Diary of a Danceaholic Book 2: The Challenge
"(This book is based off the first five chapters, as part of GEA’25) As far as I’ve read, I’m really enjoying the way you’re slowly introducing Skylar, her circumstances at the dance studio where she meets Ronny—sparking a connection with a sour backstory. The way you hint at Skylar’s uneventful backstory through internal monologues and blips of flashbacks kept me invested in reading more! I especially enjoyed the contemporary setting and feel you’ve captured—through the natural settings and feel-good characters. Jeff seems like a great sidekick; he’s a really caring and courteous friend. The other minor characters (like Walter and Frank) were also likeable—it was heartwarming to read about how even acquaintances like them can have a family-like bond with the main characters. The aggressive “Vulture” ‘s introduction was hilarious as well! XD So far, the character dynamics have been fun to read. There is a great foundation for the plot to develop on and I can’t wait to uncover Skylar’s internal conflict! :D The writing has a natural, seamless flow in it which I enjoyed thoroughly. It was mostly simple, clear and easy to follow! I especially liked the dialogues crafted—they sounded realistic, coupled with light banters which elevated the mood. Everything about the writing style felt so light and fluffy—just right for the contemporary romance-drama genre of the story! I also admired how there weren’t over-description of the settings but rather subtle info-dropping bit by bit which keeps the readers engaged in the story! I was also a big fan of internal monologues—they aided in character development greatly. Overall, the writing style was just nice and the scenes flowed from one to the other without much hiccups. Technical wise, there isn’t much spelling, grammar or punctuation mistakes I’ve come across—barring the Inkitt formatting which tends to clump words together but that’s okay! I admired how there wasn't any overly bombastic vocabulary used; just plain simple english words tweaked in a compelling writing style! Nice work :D I’m beginning to get a good feel of the characters introduced, with a strong foundation for the story to progress on. The transitions between each chapter is smooth, allowing for a great reading experience! It’s evident the main character, Skylar is lugging the weight of a past memory—now haunted through a new connection at the dance studio. The characters are likeable, supported by the natural settings crafted by the author! Thus far, the story is moving along at a comfortable pace and I can’t wait how things turn out for Sky! :D "
Great Start to a Sequel
"Skylar Thomas is all grown up in this sequel to TheGreenShoes' Diary of a Danceaholic and still with the same jokes hiding a darkness from her past that still lingers underneath the surface as she's sucked back in the dance world thanks to a challenge from her old nemesis Reece. Despite being marked as complete, it moreso feels like an excerpt of something larger with all these plotlines introduced like a something more friendship with Jeff, Skylar's past and estrangement from her mother, the little sister of one of her old rivals reminding Skylar too much of herself, and even the competition with Reece, the story stopping right around Reece's masterclass date; and none of them really tied up, rather ending after Skylar seems to find little shades of light in amongst the heaviness she carries daily like a nice ride share driver and a free coffee from someone related to her student. It's still filled with jokes and funny moments to keep the story balanced and the writing style is to the point. Dialogue and character voices is a huge strength with each one having strong personalities, including her boss, the Vulture. Despite all the loose ends, it's a worthwhile read for fans of the first book and readers who enjoy strong character driven books or are interested in the dance competition world. "
