Chapter 1
Rox POV
The warm water cascades over my body, washing away the tension of the morning. I stand beneath the shower, letting the steam wrap around me like a comforting embrace.
“I’m really getting old,” I mutter to myself with a small smile, twisting my black wavy hair into a loose bun.
A few curls escape, framing my face as droplets glisten against my caramel skin. My honey-colored eyes, catch the rising steam in the mirror as I step out, wrapping myself in a towel. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little vain.
After a quick glance at my wardrobe, I choose a forest-green blouse and black trousers, professional yet flattering. Sneakers go on for the short walk to the pack house, though my heels wait in my bag for when I get there. A swipe of light makeup, a once-over in the mirror, and I’m ready—at least, outwardly.
In the kitchen, I blend a smoothie of fresh fruits and greens, sipping it while gazing out at the serene forest surrounding my little home. For the first time in years, I feel a sense of belonging.
