Chapter 1
“A boy?”
“A girl?”
“A boy?”
“A girl?”
“A girl?”
“A boy?”
“Why is this not ending?”
The air buzzed with anticipation, a warm mix of laughter, chatter, and joyful whispers filling the room.
Friends and family gathered close, forming a small circle around the expectant parents, their eyes sparkling with excitement. Tiny pastel decorations swayed from above, and a table nearby displayed neatly wrapped gifts and a cake topped with an elegant question mark.
“Come on!” someone urged, unable to contain their excitement. “It’s time! Pull the next ribbon!”
The soon-to-be mom looked at their partner, their hands entwined, and they shared a glance brimming with both thrill and nerves. This moment felt like a heartbeat stretched in time, the kind that made everything stand still, almost sacred. Their fingers trembled slightly as they reached for the soft, silky ribbon – a delicate thread tied between the secret and the reveal.
The crowd’s excitement swelled, voices overlapping, forming a wave of cheerful impatience. “That’s it! The last ribbon! Pull, pull, let’s see! Is it a boy or a girl?”
The soon-to-be parents exchanged a final glance, savoring the tenderness and love reflected in each other’s eyes. With a gentle tug, the ribbon slipped free, and as it did, a cascade of color – soft blues and vibrant pinks – unfurled, swirling around them like confetti in a dream.
There was a brief, breathless pause as everyone held still, eyes widening, and then an explosion of joy burst forth as the answer revealed itself, wrapping everyone in its warmth.
“Yeahhhh.. girl.. yeahhhhh.. it’s a girl., it’s a girl.”
The crowd erupted into applause, hands clapping in unison and cheerful howls echoing through the evening air. Laughter mingled with joyful cheers, filling the sprawling lawn with a warmth that could only come from shared happiness.
The sun was setting just beyond the mansion’s grand arches, casting a soft, golden glow across the scene, highlighting each beaming face.
Mr. Kim, the eldest of the family, raised his champagne glass with a broad smile, his voice carrying a note of pride and delight.
“Now, let’s get the drinks and enjoy the evening!” he called, his eyes twinkling as he gestured toward the beautifully arranged food and beverage section nestled in one corner of the lawn. Crisp white linens covered tables laden with delicacies, and strings of fairy lights twinkled like stars above.
The guests turned towards the feast, laughter and conversation bubbling up as they moved across the perfectly manicured grass.
With glasses raised and plates filling, they shared memories, exchanged smiles, and celebrated not just the new life on the way, but the love and togetherness that bound them all.
The classic mansion loomed gracefully behind them, a symbol of legacy and family, standing tall as it witnessed yet another joyous moment in the lives of the ones it sheltered.
However, in the neatly arranged tables around the corner of the lawn, the air was different, somewhat hollow and empty.
“Aren’t you happy?” Jimin, Kim’s sons-in-law asked softly, glancing at the brunette beside him, who was absentmindedly swirling a glass of wine in his hand.
The brunette looked up, his smile warm but a bit restrained. “Yeah. I am. After all, it’s about a tiny life, right?” His voice was light, but something in his gaze lingered on the horizon, as if lost in thought.
“Jungkook,” the same gentle voice of Jimin interrupted, and Jungkook felt the familiar warmth of Jimin’s hand caressing his knuckles.
“Jimin-hyung, I’m fine,” Jungkook replied, flashing a reassuring grin before finishing off his wine in one swallow. Jimin’s eyes softened as it met with Jungkook yet there was an unspoken concern in his gaze.
However, determined to shift the focus, Jungkook leaned over, lightly running his fingers over the tiny feet peeking from the baby quilt in Jimin’s arms. “Mm. Enough about me. Tell me, how’s Soo baby? Is she giving you a hard time?”
Jimin chuckled, glancing down at his little one with a look of absolute adoration. “Ah, she’s perfect. But if her dad’s a cat, she’s definitely a night owl. Stays up all night like she owns the place.”
Jungkook laughed, his eyes bright with a mixture of empathy and excitement. “Must be exhausting but exciting too, right?”
“Couldn’t be truer,” Jimin replied, nodding with a warm smile.
“Hmm, let me hold her,” Jungkook offered, reaching his hands out gently. “You go and get yourself something to eat. She’ll be fine with me.”
Jimin hesitated for a moment, but then, seeing the gentle anticipation in Jungkook’s eyes, he carefully handed the baby over, his fingers brushing Jungkook’s as he did.
Soo immediately snuggled in Jungkook’s arms, her tiny features soft and serene.
Jimin stood up, giving Jungkook an appreciative smile before making his way toward the food counter, glancing back once to see Jungkook gently swaying Soo by cradling the baby closer to his chest.
“Ah, there you are, Jungkook.” Jungkook turned around, recognizing the warm, familiar voice of Mrs. Kim who was approaching him with a broad smile, accompanied by a woman who appeared just as friendly, her eyes twinkling with curiosity as they met Jungkook’s.
Mrs. Kim rested a gentle hand on Jungkook’s shoulder once she reached near him. “Here, this is Jungkook, my youngest son-in-law,” she introduced, her pride evident in her voice.
The woman’s face lit up with recognition, her lips curving into a smile. “Oh! Taehyungie’s, right?” she asked, her tone full of warmth and familiarity. Mrs. Kim nodded proudly, glancing at Jungkook with affection.
“Hello, aunty,” Jungkook greeted, offering a polite bow, his bunny smile spreading across his face as he took in her warm greeting.
“This is my first time meeting you,” the woman continued, with a friendly chuckle. “I’m Somin, Jennie’s father’s brother’s second daughter’s mother-in-law.” Her voice carried a hint of amusement, as if fully aware of the mouthful she had just given.
Jungkook chuckled, nodding along good-naturedly. “Nice to meet you,” he replied, settling back with a friendly smile.
Somin’s gaze instantly drifted down to the tiny bundle nestled in Jungkook’s arms, her face softening as she took in the sweet sight. “Oh my, how old is this little one?” she asked, her voice lowering to a gentle coo.
“Just three months,” Jungkook replied softly, his smile growing as he glanced down at the baby. He gently rocked her, feeling her tiny warmth against his chest.
“So precious!” Somin beamed, leaning in closer. “A boy or a girl?”
“She,” Jungkook replied, his voice filled with quiet pride as he adjusted the baby’s blanket to make sure she was comfortable.
Somin’s eyes sparkled with delight as she took in the baby’s features. “She’s adorable! And I swear, she has Taehyungie’s eyes, doesn’t she?”
Mrs. Kim gave a small, slightly nervous laugh, glancing between Jungkook and Somin, taken aback.
“Ah, actually… she isn’t Taehyung’s,” Mrs. Kim explained with a soft chuckle. “She’s Yoongi’s little one.”
Somin’s eyes widened in surprise. “Oh! I’m so sorry, I thought she was yours!” A hint of embarrassment colored her cheeks as she realized her mistake.
Jungkook chuckled, brushing it off with his signature smile. “It’s okay,” he said kindly, not wanting her to feel awkward.
“By the way, where’s Jimin, son?”” Mrs. Kim’s asked, glancing across the lawn in search of him.
“He’s over at the food counter, grabbing his dinner,” Jungkook replied, pointing in Jimin’s direction.
“Oh, okay, but,” Mrs. Kim turned back to Jungkook, her brows drawing together in concern. “What about you, Jungkook? You haven’t eaten yet? Here, give her to me, and go get yourself a plate,” she offered, stretching out her hands to take the baby.
Jungkook shook his head gently, smiling. “It’s fine, Mom. I’ll eat later with Tae.”
Mrs. Kim’s face softened at the mention of Taehyung, her son, however she raised her brow in amusement. “Speaking of him, where is he? Didn’t you call him?”
“Yes. He said he will be here in about fifteen minutes?” Jungkook replied doubtfully, gently swaying with the baby, who had begun to blink and squirm sleepily in his arms.
Mrs. Kim let out a knowing sigh, her smile both fond and exasperated. “This boy… you know, Nuna,” she began, turning to Somin, “Taehyung never attends family gatherings unless he absolutely has to! I swear, the only event he stayed for from start to finish was his own wedding – and even that was because, well, he had no choice!” She laughed, shaking her head, and Somin also joined in, amused.
“Haha! And how long has it been since your wedding?” she asked in between her laughs, turning back to Jungkook with a curious look.
“This year will be our third anniversary,” Jungkook replied, his voice softening with a mix of nostalgia and warmth.
“And kids?” she asked, her eyes bright with curiosity.
“Not yet,” Jungkook replied with a gentle smile.
Mrs. Kim laughed softly, patting Jungkook’s arm. “Oh, let them enjoy themselves first! It’s not like it was in our generation. They’ll have kids when they’re ready. Also, they’re still young!”
Somin nodded as she caressed the tiny feet of Soo.
Just then, Jimin returned, carrying a plate of food, his gaze warm as he caught the group’s attention. “Hello, Auntie,” he greeted, offering a polite bow to the woman, who smiled back with a fond nod.
Before anyone could reply, a familiar voice cut through the conversation.
“Mom! There you are!” Jennie, the oldest daughter in law of the family, called, making her way over to them with a mix of relief and mild exasperation, carrying a squirming eight-months-old in her arms. Her expression softened when she finally saw her mother-in-law. “Mom, could you feed Jae for me? Mia’s been keeping me on my toes all day.”
Mrs. Kim’s face instantly melted into a look of love and understanding. “Of course, dear. Give him here,” she said, reaching out to take the baby from Jennie.
Jennie let out a sigh of gratitude, as she handed Jae over and her free hand rested on her noticeably rounded belly, and in the other, she held a slice of cake, a small indulgence amidst her busy evening.
“Oh, Jennie, sweetheart, you really should take it easy,” Somin said, reaching out to touch her arm with a motherly concern.
Jennie laughed softly, the exhaustion and joy mingling in her expression. “I’d love to, Auntie, believe me. But nowadays Jae and Mia are giving me a hard time, and this little one on the way… hmm.. I don’t want to talk about it.” She gestured toward her belly, giving a small, affectionate pat.
“Haha. Where’s Mia though?” Mrs. Kim asked, already bouncing Jae gently as she spoke.
“She’s with Granny inside the mansion,” Jennie replied, settling into a seat beside Jungkook and Jimin, who were watching her with fond smiles.
Mrs. Kim gave Jennie a final, reassuring pat. “Well, you take a break. I’ll go check on her,” she said, adjusting Jae in her arms before making her way toward the mansion, Somin also accompanied her with a chuckle.
Jennie watched the two women walk away, her face softening with relief. She turned back to Jungkook and Jimin, a warm smile lighting up her face as she settled into the comfortable presence of family by taking small bites of the cake.
The three of them sat there quietly for a moment. The evening air was thick with the sounds of laughter, music, and gentle conversations, the lights from the mansion cast a golden glow over the lawn and they found themselves basking in the warmth of togetherness.
“Didn’t you try the cake, Jungkook? It’s blueberry! I ordered it from your hyung’s bakery,” Jennie said, breaking the comfortable silence between. She gently caressed her swollen belly with a warm smile.
“Oh, really? Then it must be delicious. But I still think his chocolate truffle is the masterpiece,” Jungkook replied, adjusting the pacifier that had slipped from baby Soo’s tiny mouth. “Anyways, I’ll have a slice later.”
Jennie chuckled, her eyes twinkling. “I’m all about blueberry this time. When I was carrying Jae, it was chocolate truffle. Can’t get enough of these cravings,” she said, taking another satisfied bite of the cake.
Jungkook watched her, his smile soft. Beside him, Jimin scratched the tip of his nose, smiling in amusement at Jennie’s obvious delight.
“Is she asleep?” Jennie asked, reaching over to caress Soo’s tiny hand. Her eyes softened as she took in the peaceful face of the little one bundled in blankets. “Is she keeping you up all night, Jimina? I bet she’ll be wide awake tonight, considering how much she’s sleeping now.”
Jimin let out a quiet laugh, nodding. “Yes, she’s definitely making up for it now. She’ll be up for her night shift soon,” he teased.
Jennie laughed, a knowing glint in her eyes. “Ah, the life of a mom! It’s exhausting. Honestly, I’m envious of you, Jungkook. You are always so free, no baby responsibilities or sleepless nights,” she said, taking another bite of her cake with a playful smirk.
Jungkook’s smile flickered slightly, though he maintained his calm. “A baby is not an exhaustion, Nuna. Sure, I might not have those responsibilities now, but that doesn’t mean I’m without stress. And…” He hesitated, his gaze softening. “I don’t see having a baby is some kind of stress.”
Jennie let out a light-hearted chuckle. “You’re saying that because you don’t have one yet, Jungkook.”
Her words lingered in the air for a moment, and Jimin glanced at Jungkook. The usual warmth of Jungkook’s smile seemed to vanish, leaving an empty sort of expression in its place. He tried to smile again, but it came out forced, a mere shadow of the smile he usually wore.
Before the silence could grow too awkward, Jennie’s mother called from the mansion, her voice carrying across the lawn. “Jennie, dear! Come here for a minute!”
Jungkook and Jimin exchanged a relieved glance as Jennie pushed herself up, balancing her weight carefully. “You two carry on. Let me see what she needs,” she said, adjusting her hold on her growing belly with a dramatic sigh. She turned around to pick the empty plate.
“Oh, leave the plate here, Nuna,” Jungkook offered quickly, noticing her discomfort to lift that small plate. “I’ll take it with the other dishes.”
“Thanks, Jungkookie,” Jennie said, offering him a grateful smile before heading inside.
As soon as she was out of earshot, Jimin shook his head with a soft laugh. “Oh, she’s a true drama queen, I’ll give her that. I really admire Seojoon hyung’s patience, really.”
Jungkook let out a quiet chuckle. “Sometimes, I wonder if she’s showing off on purpose. It’s like she’s trying to rub it in my face. She had Jae less than a year ago, and now…” His voice trailed off, a bittersweet smile tugging at his lips. “Some people just seem to receive blessings in abundance, while for others… it’s always meager.”
Jimin stilled, his fork pausing mid-air as he noticed the sadness in Jungkook’s eyes. Jungkook tried to keep up the brave smile, but it wavered, his true feelings slipping through.
Without saying a word, Jimin reached out, squeezing Jungkook’s shoulder gently. His eyes spoke volumes of understanding, a quiet comfort that filled the silence between them.

As the minutes stretched for hours, a deep rumble echoed through the neighborhood as a sleek, black Harley Davidson pulled up to the grand mansion, capturing the attention of anyone nearby.
The bike came to a smooth stop, its powerful hum fading, and a brunette dismounted, his figure striking against the evening glow. He pulled off his helmet, revealing a cascade of slightly tousled, dark hair that he ran a hand through, effortlessly giving it a stylish lift.
Pausing briefly, he took in the scene before him - a lavishly decorated lawn bathed in warm golden and silver lights, casting a soft, enchanting glow over everything. In the center, a pink and blue board with the words Baby Shower stood proudly, adorned with delicate flowers and ribbons, exuding both charm and celebration.
With a warm smile, the person made his way toward the familiar figures standing near the lawn entrance. He spotted Hobi among them, who greeted him with a wave and a teasing grin.
“Hey Tae! Straight from the studio?” Hobi asked, his voice full of warmth and familiarity.
“Hey, Hobi-hyung,” Taehyung replied with his signature boxy smile, extending a hand for a friendly shake. “Yeah, I just wrapped up a shoot. Rushed right over.”
“Well, you came just in time,” Hobi chuckled, then lowered his voice, feigning seriousness. “But, listen, whatever you do, avoid aunty for a while. She’s not too happy right now.”
Taehyung laughed, the corners of his eyes crinkling with amusement. “Oh? What did I do this time?”
“It’s not you this time,” Hobi said, grinning. “She’s just… well, you know how she gets about these events.” He leaned closer, voice dropping to a whisper. “But good luck trying to ‘tame’ her.”
Taehyung laughed, shaking his head. “Mm. So it’s a task ahead,” he replied with a laugh while his gaze slowly shifted to his older brother, Seojoon, who was standing a few steps away from them, holding a glass of champagne and watching them with an amused expression.
“Tae, you made it! So… what’s your guess - boy or girl this time?” Seojoon asked with a playful smile, raising his glass in a silent toast.
Taehyung chuckled, tilting his head thoughtfully. “Hmm… girl,” he guessed, his eyes twinkling. “But I wouldn’t mind being surprised.”
Seojoon grinned, nodding approvingly. “You’re right, it’s a girl! Little princess number three,” he announced proudly.
Taehyung laughed, throwing his head back. “Our poor Jae, the lone warrior in a castle full of princesses. He’s going to have a hard time,” he teased, glancing toward the mansion where his nephew, Jae, was bounced in the hands of one of his relatives.
Seojoon nodded, offering him a glass of champagne, but Taehyung shook his head, his eyes softening. “Ah, thanks, but I need to ride back to home. You know, I need to keep a clear head.”
With a nod of understanding, Seojoon took a sip himself.
“So, you guys carry on. Let me go inside and see what the situation is,” Taehyung said with a mischievous smile.
“Haha. Yeah. Go straight into mom’s hands, you will get an earful.” Seojoon said, chuckling along with Hobi.
“Pray for me then.” Taehyung called out as he walked towards the mansion, bowing to a few guests who passed by, exchanging warm greetings and polite smiles.
The soft hum of conversations, the joyful laughter of family and friends, the scent of fresh flowers mixed with the sweet aroma of pastries, all of it wrapped around him like a warm embrace. Each corner seemed to glow with love and excitement.
And just as he entered the front door, Taehyung spotted his second brother, Yoongi, standing a few steps away amidst a small group, his expression calm but his eyes warm as he noticed Taehyung.
“Yoongi-hyung!” Taehyung greeted with a respectful bow, his smile growing as he straightened.
Yoongi nodded, a faint smile touching his lips as he acknowledged his younger brother. “Glad you could make it, Tae.”
“Yeah. Let me go and meet mom.”
Taking a deep breath, Taehyung looked around, soaking in the sight of loved ones gathered together, sharing in this beautiful celebration.
Meanwhile, inside one of the cozy, softly lit bedrooms of the mansion, Jimin was gently dabbing his baby daughter’s small lips with a soft cloth after feeding her. He looked over at Jungkook, who was seated nearby, a thoughtful expression on his face.
“Did you see that doctor, Jungkook?” Jimin asked, his voice gentle yet laced with concern. He placed Soo gently on the bed and started changing her diaper.
Jungkook nodded, handing Jimin a wet wipe and a new diaper. “Yeah, I went.”
“And?” Jimin pressed, glancing up as he began fastening the diaper pants on his baby.
“The usual line. Nothing wrong with either of us. We both are perfectly fine. Just keep trying and stay on your vitamins,’” Jungkook recited with a sigh, handing Jimin the fresh set of romper. “Maybe it’s just not time yet,” he muttered, almost as if trying to convince himself.
“Maybe,” Jimin agreed, pulling the romper gently over Soo’s tiny arms, his voice softening with reassurance. “You know, Jungkook, you don’t need to stress yourself over it. When it’s time, it’ll happen. There’s no rush,” he said, cupping Jungkook’s hand on his own, giving it a comforting squeeze.
Jungkook sighed, his gaze shifting to little Soo, who was now wriggling happily on the bed, kicking her arms and legs in delight.
“I know, hyung,” he murmured. “But… it just feels like something’s missing. I can’t remember the last time Tae and I truly made love. It’s just s.x nowadays. Moreover, whenever we… you know, get intimate, my mind drifts to thoughts of the baby, and then Tae… he notices. He gets upset when he doesn’t get the response he’s hoping for.” Jungkook’s eyes clouded with frustration as he ran a hand through his hair. “I don’t know, hyung. My mind just won’t let go of it. I feel like I’m ruining things, but I don’t know how to stop it.”
Jimin listened quietly, a sympathetic smile tugging at his lips. “I get it, Jungkook. But maybe that’s exactly why you should take a step back from the idea of a baby for now. Just focus on each other, enjoy each other again. When the time is right, everything else will fall into place.”
Before Jungkook could respond, a familiar voice drifted in from the doorway.
“What’s my Soo baby doing?” Taehyung’s warm voice filled the room, making both Jimin and Jungkook smile as they turned toward him. Taehyung was leaning against the doorframe, a mischievous sparkle in his eye as he took in the scene.
“Haha, you made it!” Jimin laughed. “Did you manage to avoid Mom?”
“Do you really think I’d risk facing her after being ‘late’?” Taehyung smirked, walking into the room and dropping onto the bed beside Soo.
“I saw a flash of her in the dining room, so I crawled all the way from the living room to here, unseen. Luckily, she was too busy in the middle of one of her famous gossip marathons to notice,” he added, grinning as he reached out and wiggled his fingers in front of Soo, who immediately latched onto his hand with a happy coo.
“Mom was asking for you for a long time,” Jungkook said, watching as Taehyung gently shook Soo’s tiny hand, making her giggle.
For a moment, everything felt right. The laughter, the warmth, the comfort of family, it filled the room like a balm, soothing the worry that had been weighing on Jungkook’s mind.
Jimin looked over at him, his expression understanding and Jungkook smiled, his heart feeling a little lighter. Maybe, he thought, Jimin was right. Maybe all he needed to do was let go and cherish simple, beautiful moments.
And just as Jungkook was beginning to let go of his worries, a familiar voice thundered through the room, jolting him from his thoughts.
“Do you think you can escape my eyes that easily? Ah?” Mrs. Kim’s voice boomed, her sharp tone reverberating around the room. She stood in the doorway, hands on her hips, fixing Taehyung with a stare that could only belong to a mother who had seen through all their tricks.
“Aish!” Taehyung groaned, a playful glint in his eyes even as he flopped face-down onto the bed, pulling a pillow over his head in a mock attempt to shield himself. But his mother was not so easily deterred.
“Oh, hiding, are we?” Mrs. Kim scoffed, marching right over to him.
She crossed her arms, watching him with an eyebrow raised. “And just how many times have I told you to be home when there’s a family gathering?” She punctuated each word with a light, chastising slap - first on his right arm, then his left, and finally his back.
Taehyung peeked out from under the pillow, flashing a sheepish smile. “Ahhhh, Mom, it was an important shoot! That’s why I was late. I even sent Jungkook here early! Didn’t I? And he represents me,” he said, flashing a grin in Jungkook’s direction as if his reasoning was foolproof.
Mrs. Kim crossed her arms and shook her head in exasperation. “Represents you? Really?” she huffed. “He’s here because he’s my son-in-law, but you, young man, you are my son. You ought to be here, not sending someone in your place.” Her stern gaze softened slightly as she took in Taehyung’s playful expression, but she wasn’t letting him off that easily.
“Moreover, he hasn’t even eaten yet. He was waiting for you.”
Taehyung’s eyes sparkled mischievously, and he grinned at his mother before glancing over at Jungkook. “That’s my pretty husband, waiting for me every time. See, Mom, you shouldn’t be jealous,” he teased, reaching over and gently lifting Soo from the bed, cradling her close and cooing softly as she gurgled up at him.
Mrs. Kim rolled her eyes but couldn’t help the slight smile tugging at her lips. “You and your silver tongue,” she muttered, though the fondness in her voice was unmistakable. “Enough of your sweet talk. Now, come. Let’s have dinner. Your father and I waited too, you know. Let’s all sit together.”
She glanced over at Jimin, who was still watching with an amused grin. “Jimin-ah, go call everyone else. Tell them to join us in the dining room.”
“Yep, mom,” Jimin replied cheerfully, heading out the door with a nod.
As Mrs. Kim turned to leave, Taehyung looked down at Soo, her tiny hands clutching his fingers, her eyes bright and curious. He felt a wave of warmth as he watched her.
He held her gently, lifting her up and cooing in a soft, playful voice, “Soo baby… chu chu!” He placed a small kiss on her forehead, grinning as she gurgled back at him, her tiny hands reaching out to touch his face.
“When did you get here? I saw your missed calls, but I was super busy and couldn’t even pick up the call,” Taehyung said, his gaze shifting to Jungkook, who was half-laying on the bed, looking relaxed yet a bit worn from the day’s travels.
Jungkook let out a soft sigh, stretching his arms over his head. “Mmm… I think it was around 4 or 5 PM. I waited a few minutes for you and ended up taking a cab.”
Taehyung hummed thoughtfully, his eyes tracing over Jungkook from head to toe. “And what’s this outfit you’re wearing?” he asked, a hint of curiosity mixed with admiration in his voice. “I don’t think I’ve seen it before.”
Jungkook glanced down, smoothing his hand over the fabric. “Oh, this?” He chuckled, looking up at Taehyung with a small, proud smile. “I bought it online the other day. Figured it was time to add something new to the wardrobe. Do you like it?”
Taehyung’s eyes sparkled as he nodded. “Mmm, I love it,” he replied warmly, letting his gaze linger for a moment longer. “Especially when you wear sleeveless tops.” He gave Jungkook a quick, appreciative once-over, and Jungkook couldn’t help but laugh, feeling a bit shy under the attention.
Noticing something different, Taehyung tilted his head slightly. “Wait… did you cut your hair?”
Jungkook brushed a hand through his bangs, adjusting them slightly. “Just a trim,” he replied, his tone casual. “Thought I’d freshen it up before coming here.”
Taehyung smiled, nodding in approval. “Looks good on you, really. Makes you look even more charming,” he teased, reaching out to brush a stray lock of hair away from Jungkook’s forehead.
He then glanced down at Soo, who was happily babbling in his arms, and gave her a little bounce. “Come on, then. Let’s head to the dining room before Mom comes searching for us again. She’s not exactly thrilled with me sneaking around,” he said with a playful wink.
Jungkook grinned, falling in step beside him as they made their way down the hallway, his hand resting lightly on Taehyung’s back.
The air around them was filled with the warm sounds of laughter and conversation echoing from the dining room ahead, where the family was gathered. It was one of those simple, treasured moments, the warmth of home, the shared glances, and the quiet intimacy of knowing you’re in the presence of someone who feels like family in every possible way.
Soon the family settled around the dining table while each guest trickled out, gradually leaving the house in a cozy, post-party calm.
Seojoon plopped down into a chair, glancing at the large spread of leftovers on the table. “Almost everyone’s gone, Mom. You should’ve packed some of this food for them. How much can we really eat?”
Mrs. Kim looked over with a gentle, knowing smile. “Don’t worry, dear. The maids are taking care of it. They’ll take some of the food home with them,” she assured him, ladling portions onto their plates.
Taehyung leaned over with a soft smile, glancing at Jennie across the table. “Congratulations again, Nuna, for blessing us with another princess,” he said warmly.
Jennie gave a soft chuckle, her face glowing with the joy of new motherhood. “Thank you, Taehyungie, but you should have come earlier. We missed you,” she said with a gentle hint of reproach.
Taehyung’s face softened, guilt tugging at him. “I really wanted to, Nuna. But work wouldn’t let me. I’m sorry,” he replied, his apology sincere as he reached over to serve a portion of salad onto Jungkook’s plate, a small gesture that didn’t go unnoticed by his parents.
Mr. Kim leaned back in his chair, his eyes settling on Taehyung thoughtfully. “Are you heading back tonight?”
Taehyung nodded instantly. “Yeah, I have to. I have an important photoshoot tomorrow, and all my camera lenses are at the apartment.”
“Stay for the night, Tae” Mr. Kim suggested, an affectionate warmth in his voice. “It’s been a while since you stayed over here. You can go home tomorrow.”
Taehyung hesitated, glancing at Jungkook, who met his gaze with a small nudge. “I will, this weekend for sure. But tomorrow’s shoot is a big one,” he reasoned, brushing his fingers through his hair.
Mrs. Kim’s gaze shifted from Taehyung to Jungkook. “Then leave Jungkook here for a few days. He should spend time with family.”
Taehyung froze, scratching his forehead as he glanced down at Jungkook with a flustered expression. “N-no... I mean, yes, if he wants to,” he stammered, feeling Jungkook’s nudge in his side and trying to act casual.
Mrs. Kim rolled her eyes with a chuckle. “Let him stay, Tae. Jimin and Jennie are here too.”
Taehyung bit his lip, trying to find a reason to keep Jungkook with him. “I would, but his school’s close to our place. And you know how he is with his gym routine.”
Jennie arched a brow, a knowing smile tugging at her lips. “Just say you can’t handle the apartment without him around.”
Taehyung chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck. “Alright, alright, you got me. It’s true. I’d probably end up with my whole place upside down without him.”
Mrs. Kim smiled softly, reaching over to pat Taehyung’s hand. “Then just come this weekend and stay longer, okay?” Taehyung nodded, warmed by her gentle insistence.
After a few moments, Mrs. Kim’s gaze fell on Jungkook, her eyes softening as she spoke. “Jungkook, dear, did you both see that doctor I recommended? The one I sent you contact info for?”
Jungkook swallowed hard, glancing nervously at Taehyung before turning back to her. “N-no… not yet, Mom. Maybe next week,” he replied, trying his best to keep his tone light as he flashed a hesitant smile.
Mrs. Kim’s gaze narrowed slightly as she fixed on Taehyung, her tone turning serious. “Is he the one stalling? If so, let me know. My slipper can be a good motivator.”
“Mom!” Taehyung whined, rubbing his arm with a sheepish grin. “It’s not me, I promise! We’ll go. I’ve just been ridiculously busy, that’s all.”
Mr. Kim let out a chuckle, sharing a glance with Yoongi, who chimed in with a calm smile. “What’s the rush, anyway? Let them enjoy their life and settle down when they’re ready.”
“Yes,” Mr. Kim agreed, nodding. “They should be able to take things at their own pace.”
Jungkook gave an appreciative nod, relieved to have the pressure lifted as he picked up a piece of lettuce and began chewing quietly. But as he glanced down at his plate, the earlier appetite he had faded, leaving him with the taste of both food and mixed emotions.
Soon after the dinner, as the family gathered by the driveway, Mrs. Kim handed Jungkook several bags filled with neatly packed tiffin boxes. “Here, keep the kimchi in the refrigerator,” she instructed, her warm smile full of motherly love.
Jungkook nodded, glancing at the hefty size of the bags. Meanwhile, Taehyung chuckled, shaking his head in mock despair. “Haha, looks like I’ll be eating kimchi for a week straight.”
Mrs. Kim rolled her eyes playfully. “No, eat it up in two days if you can. This boy barely takes care of himself, so let him stay out of the kitchen for a few days,” she said, her eyes softening as she looked at Jungkook.
Taehyung shook his head, securing his helmet under his arm as he approached his family for goodbyes. “Okay then, see you this weekend, hyung,” he said to Jimin, leaning down to plant a gentle kiss on Soo’s forehead.
Turning, he bent down to give Mia a kiss on her cheeks. She giggled and, with childlike enthusiasm, reached up to give him a peck on his jaw in return. Taehyung smiled, his heart warm with affection.
Jungkook, watching Taehyung’s gentle interactions, felt a swell of pride and love.
Taehyung then leaned down to ruffle Jae’s hair before placing a soft kiss on his small hand. “Nuna, take care,” he said to Jennie, who smiled in response.
And as Taehyung strapped on his helmet on his head, preparing to leave, Yoongi approached with a gentle smile. “Ride safe, Tae. Send us a message once you reach home.”
Taehyung gave him a thumbs-up. “Will do, hyung,” he promised.
Meanwhile, Jungkook offered a respectful bow to his in-laws, thanking them. “Mom, Dad, hyungs, good night,” he said, his voice filled with sincerity. Then he turned and made his way over to Taehyung, who was now waiting patiently by the Harley.
As he climbed onto the back, he took one last look at everyone, their smiling faces illuminated by the soft glow of the house lights. “Can we go?” Taehyung asked, his voice slightly muffled by the helmet.
Jungkook wrapped one arm around Taehyung’s waist, holding the bags tightly in his other hand. “Yes, let’s go,” he replied with a soft hum, his hand holding onto Taehyung securely.
With one last wave to the family, Taehyung revved the engine, and they rode off into the quiet night. As they sped down the road, Jungkook felt the crisp night air against his face, but the warmth of Taehyung’s back grounded him, a silent promise of togetherness as they made their way home.
“Hold me tight, Jungkook. Aren’t you feeling cold?“, Taehyung asked once they crossed the gate of the mansion.
“Yeah, I’m holding you,” Jungkook replied, adjusting his grip as he leaned closer, his cheek resting against Taehyung’s back, feeling his warmth seep through.
The night air was brisk, and he could feel it nipping at his skin, but Taehyung’s presence was enough to keep him comfortable.
“You should have brought the car,” Jungkook complained, shifting the bags to keep them steady.
“But I love the bike,” Taehyung replied with a smile, his hand reaching down to give Jungkook’s thigh a gentle squeeze. He continued steering with one hand, his fingers lingering in small circles on Jungkook’s leg.
“Why, though?” Jungkook asked, a bit of exasperation slipping into his tone as he tightened his grip.
“So I can feel your b..bies close to me, right here, on my back,” Taehyung murmured, his voice carrying a hint of playfulness.
Jungkook huffed, rolling his eyes. “As if you don’t every day,” he teased, a hint of a smile on his lips. Before he could say anything else, Taehyung’s fingers pinched his thigh, making him jump slightly.
“Yah! Don’t do that! We’ll end up in a ditch if you keep messing around,” Jungkook scolded, though he couldn’t hide the amusement in his voice. His heart pounded a little faster, but he felt his body relax as Taehyung withdrew his hand and took control with both hands.
“Alright, alright. My pretty wifie’s safety first,” Taehyung said, laughter lacing his voice as he leaned into the bike, his focus shifting back to the road.
