Short Story

It was dark in the room, and Amelia thought she saw something move by itself. She got scared but curious. She wondered what invisible force could move something by itself and how that was possible. She had so many questions that she forgot she was scared. But that didn’t last long until a lamp somehow shattered by itself.

She was terrified and wanted to leave her home immediately, but for some reason decided not to. Instead, she went out to the living room. She wanted to figure out if something else was broken or moved in any way.

She slowly walked down the stairs. Terrified, but wanting to find out why this was happening, she turned on the lamp the second she got down. She slowly and quietly walked through the kitchen to the living room, where she turned on the lights. As the lights turned on, she gasped, afraid of what was going to happen.

Standing in front of her was a group of spirits. They were all smiling and looked like they were all killed in many different ways. There were about five of them standing together, looking and acting like a family.

“Who are you?” Amelia asked, terrified of what was going to happen.

She didn’t know how to react and tried to hide her fear of them.

“Don’t be afraid; we won’t hurt you,” one of the ghosts said. The ghost was a woman with long, curly, black hair. She looked nice, but she had a knife in her back, like she had been stabbed to death.

“My name is Elora Golding,” she continued. She spoke in a calm voice, trying not to scare Amelia. She could see that Amelia was scared and wanted to calm her down. Elora tried to act and speak calmly, and she didn’t want to scare Amelia even more.

“What are you doing here, and why are you destroying my house?” Still terrified but calmer, she asked, looking at all the different things that had been destroyed just in the living room. The ghosts looked around at everything that was broken in the living room. One of them looked a little ashamed as he tried to hide it.

“Well, you can thank Cicero,” said one of the ghosts. A male with short, brown hair and a brown imperial mustache. He was wearing an old, brown suit with a monocle hanging from the jacket. On the suit was a black tie; he looked like a rich man from the 1800s. He looked like he had died because of a gunshot wound in his chest. He pointed at a young-looking boy with blonde, long-medium hair. The boy looked like he had been killed with an axe stabbed in the upper half of his back. He had an embarrassed look at himself because of all the broken equipment around the house.

“He's clumsy. Anyways, I’m Emrick Golding.” He continued. As he spoke, he looked at Cicero, then back at Amelia. While Amelia was getting introduced to the family of ghosts, she got calmer and calmer as time went on. She looked at the other two ghosts that hadn’t been introduced yet. The two looked like twins. They looked like they were nine years old and were identical twins. Both had short, black hair and had freckles all over their faces.

Elora introduced them as Agatha and Agnetta. The two twins were wearing long, white dresses and looked sick. They looked like they were poisoned, and that was their cause of death.

“Hi,” Agatha and Agnetta said simultaneously to Amelia.

“Hi,” she answered, a little bit creeped out but calmer than before.

Emrick apologized for everything they had destroyed. He started explaining that they were a family that lived here during the 1800s. They were later killed in the house they were currently in. He explained that the person who killed them hated them, for some reason, and then decided to kill them. He hunted down the family, one by one, over a period of time, killing them all.

Since that horrible incident, they have been haunting that house. They had been ghosts forced to live in the same house, and they weren’t able to leave. They had to stay there forever. Cicero then explained that because they are not able to leave, they want a house owner they like. They’ve had many different people living there, and each time, they've decided if they liked them or not. They didn’t like many of the former owners and ended up scaring them out.

Elora said she didn’t want her to fear them and asked if she wanted to become friends. Amelia thought about it. After a little while of thinking, she finally answered,

“Yeah, that would be fun.”

The family smiled. They were all excited and wanted to do a lot of fun things together. They started trying to clean up some of the broken pieces around the house. As they were cleaning, they spent a few hours getting to know each other and getting some ideas of fun things they could do together. They ended up with a list of things they could do together. This list included scaring people and more.

After a few hours of fun, they decided it was time to go to bed. They wanted to start the list as soon as possible. The list was long, and they wanted to add more to it as they went. They were all excited to start the list.

The next morning, Amelia woke up to the sound of glass shattering. She woke up quicker than a leopard could run, but she immediately knew that the breaking noise was caused by Cicero. Not long after, she heard Cicero yell “Sorry” from downstairs.

She got out of bed and got dressed. She walked downstairs to clean up the shattered glass and make some breakfast afterward. As they came downstairs, there was broken glass everywhere in the kitchen. She went and got a broom, cleaned it up, and then went through the shattered glass in the trash.

“Do ghosts eat food?” she asked, unsure if they do or not.

“We can eat, but we don’t have to,” Elora answered happy and ready for the day.

“Well, do you want some?” Amelia asked. They all nicely declined, and Amelia started making some breakfast for herself. As she was eating, they all planned their day. They wanted to do the first thing on the list, which was to, in some way, scare someone. Amelia liked scaring people, and apparently, the ghost family did as well.

They decided to scare the next person coming to the door, though they didn’t want to scare them too badly. They planned how they wanted to scare that person, and so they did.

It was lunchtime, and Amelia had ordered pizza. Because of this, they planned on scaring the pizza guy. As a knock on the door was heard, they knew right away that it was the pizza guy. Amelia opened the door.

“Hello,” said the pizza guy.

“Hi,” Amelia answered.

“Let me go get some change.” Amelia walked away to get the money to pay for the pizza.

As Amelia went to get some money, the ghost family waited and spread out around the house.

Agatha and Agnetta stood right next to each other and, excitedly, whispered, “Let the scaring begin.”
