The passing thought
The Second Earth
I look at the sky and ask, “What if there is another Earth just like ours?”
“Violet, that’s stupid. There’s only one Earth,” my best friend tells me.
I say, “Well, how do you know? There could be.”
“If there was, Violet, scientists would have found it already,” Haro replies. “
Yeah, you’re right. It’s just a passing thought,” I say sadly. The next day I get up and get ready for school but when I get to the door and open it there is a boy standing there staring at me.
I ask, “Ahhh... can I help you with something?”
He replies, “Yes you might be able to.”
“Mum! There’s someone at the door,” I call behind me. There is no answer so I turn back to the boy. “Sorry, what did you want?”
“I heard you ask if there was another Earth like the one that you live on,” he tells me.
“Yeah, I did. Why do you ask?”
“What if I could take to that Earth? Would you like to stay there?”
“Ok… one, stop pulling my leg, and two, an Earth that’s just like ours doesn’t exist. Now I need to go, so please tell me now if there is something I can do for you. If there’s not, then I would like to ask you to leave so I can leave.”
“There is something that you can help me with, but I need you to come to my world.”
“Ahhh, can I help you after school? I really need to go now.”
“I will if you promise me you will come to my world to help.”
“Okay, I promise after school.”
