Chapter 1 - Rachel's Story
NOTE: This is book 10 in the “My Mafia Madness” Series. Please make sure you read books 1 - 9 before beginning this one.
Armed with the impossible task of breaking into enemy territory and retrieving his wife Alexa from her kidnapper Matteo, Dante was now dressed and ready for his mission.
He knew it wouldn’t be an easy one, but it didn’t matter.
Dante would walk barefoot through flames for Alexa.
She was his everything.
Throughout his entire life he had never met anyone who captivated him the way that she did.
Which is why he needed to get her back, safe and sound.
Not to mention the fact that she was also pregnant with their second child.
Everything was on the line here and Dante wouldn’t give up without what he had come for.
No matter how difficult the task might be.
And now that night had come, Dante was ready for his mission.
Nicola on the other hand still wasn’t entirely sold on the idea of Dante going in all alone to rescue Alexa.
The underboss had thought it unwise for their leader to separate himself from the others, especially when venturing into unknown enemy territory.
And he thought to try one last time to convince his boss not to do this alone.
“Capo, please reconsider this.” Nicola pleaded as he walked alongside Dante.
“At least bring some of us with you. For back up.”
Dante frowned as the black SUV pulled up in front of them.
“Nicola, we’ve already discussed this.” he announced.
“This is just something I have to do. And it’ll work, just wait and see. Have faith in me, amico.” (friend.)
Nicola inhaled deeply before exhaling loudly.
He swallowed down his pride and nodded his head in agreement.
“Fine… but I am coming along for the ride. Luca, Cecilio and I will remain in the car while you go in. Sorry, capo. That’s a non-negotiable.” the underboss stated.
Just then Luca hopped out of the driver’s seat and looked over at them.
As did Cecilio who was in the front passenger’s seat.
Dante knew there was no point in arguing with his second.
He would have to agree and allow his men to come with him.
“Very well then.” the Don agreed.
“So long as you remain in the car.”
Nightfall had come quickly and by the time it had Alexa was met by a young brunette woman at her door.
“Can I help you?” Alexa asked with a quizzical expression.
The brunette giggled.
“Oh, aren’t you adorable…” she commented.
Alexa lifted her left brow in question.
“Adorable? Me?” she asked.
“Who are you anyway?”
“My name’s Rachel. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Alexa.” she proclaimed, surprising Alexa.
“Wait, how did you know my name?” Alexa asked.
Rachel giggled again.
“Everyone knows who you are, darling.” she proclaimed.
“Now come on, we have so much to do and hardly anytime to get it all done.”
With that Rachel took Alexa by her arm and pulled her back further inside the bedroom.
Together they walked across the length of the room to stop by the mirrored dresser.
“I’m sorry, why are you here again?” Alexa asked as she was forced to sit down on the chair in front of the mirror.
“Why, I’m here to make you look even more incredible.” Rachel declared proudly.
“Thanks, but I don’t plan on getting ready like he wants me to...” Alexa interjected.
“I don’t care what Matteo says. I won’t be told what to do by a monster like him.”
Rachel pursed her lips tightly together as she contemplated what Alexa had just told her.
It seemed that getting her ready for tonight’s celebrations might be a tad more difficult than she had originally thought.
“Hm, I can see you’re going through some difficulties at the moment.” she admitted.
Alexa looked up at Rachel through the mirror’s reflection.
“Oh, you mean because I’ve been kidnapped by a ruthless Mob Boss, or because he happens to have strange delusions that he and I will somehow end up together? Take your pick.” Alexa declared.
Rachel bit her lip, finding herself momentarily silent after hearing what Alexa had just told her.
She had no idea that Alexa had been kidnapped, or that the Don had a thing for her.
Their situations were a lot more similar than she would have ever known.
Now she was feeling a wave of guilt washing in over her as Alexa spoke again.
“I need to find a way back to my husband.”
“Your husband?” Rachel found herself asking.
“Wait, you’re saying that you were kidnapped too?”
Alexa spun around to face Rachel now as she began to question her.
“You’re saying that you were also kidnapped by Matteo?” Alexa asked.
Rachel shook her head.
“No, no, not Matteo. It was Carlos. I’ve been working for that bastard for over eight years now. Each time he promises to let me go but he never does.” she explained.
Alexa couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
Rachel was also a prisoner, just like her!
“This is insane!” Alexa proclaimed in outrage.
“There’s no way they have the right to do this to us. We need to find a way out of here.”
“Don’t you think I’ve tried that already?” Rachel pointed out.
“Believe me, I’ve been trying to escape from that asshole since I was first taken. But every time I did I was punished. I don’t try to escape anymore.”
Alexa didn’t like the sound of that.
“What if you had some help this time?” she questioned.
“What if we both figured out a way to escape together?”
Rachel didn’t seem too eager, hesitance evident from her very demeaner as she bit her lip and furrowed her brows.
“Yeah, I don’t think I could do that.” she admitted hesitantly.
“Why not?” Alexa asked.
“If Carlos ever found out…” Rachel trailed off, the panic in her voice clear and obvious.
“I just can’t. I’m sorry, Alexa.”
Letting out a long sigh, Alexa nodded her head in understanding.
“It’s ok. I get it. Eight years is a long time to be held captive. You’re very brave, Rachel.” she stated.
Rachel smiled warmly.
“I know you have no intention of obeying Matteo’s command, but may I give you some friendly advice? Coming from someone who’s been in this position for as long as I have?”
Alexa nodded.
“Keep quiet and do as you’re told. It’s the best way to survive in this sort of disgusting world.”
Alexa didn’t like that piece of advice one little bit.
She had no intention of keeping quiet or behaving for Matteo, no matter what he threatened to do to her.
“I can’t do that, Rachel.” Alexa admitted.
“I won’t give in, and I won’t allow Matteo to have any power over me. He’s scum, nothing more.”
Rachel was stunned by Alexa’s confidence, especially given her situation.
“I wish I was as confident as you.” Rachel admitted sadly.
It was then that Alexa suddenly came up with her idea.
“How about this then…” the Donna suggested.
“You and I stick together and I’ll find a way to help you get out of here.”
Rachel seemed baffled by such an idea.
“You can’t be serious.” she replied.
“I couldn’t be more serious.” Alexa reassured with a nod of her head.
“Stick with me and we can both look out for one another. And when my husband does arrive I’ll help get you out of here as well. Deal?”
Rachel couldn’t believe her luck, a smile spread wide across her face.
“Deal.” she replied happily.
“But just so we don’t get on their bad side, we should probably get dressed and ready for this evening. You know, for appearances sake.”
Alexa thought about that for a moment before letting out a long, hard sigh.
One of defeat.
“Fine, I’ll get dressed.” she admitted.
“But I’m not doing this for him.”
Rachel smiled, clapping both hands together.
“Wait here, I’ll go get your gown.”
