A concise introduction
A graceful ethics towards your own death could be considered a pitiful act. Take as an example the euthanasia for a person who can´t live well anymore, be unable to move or to express any feeling, now put in the perspective of someone who is trapped under depression, in a deep state of mind, where all meaning has vanished, this person can express the feelings, however doesn´t want to create a piece of art to represent it, there´s already one... whispering. This person could live longer, but fate put the fine art of suicide next to the depressive vision. Does it represent freewill or temptation?
Throughout mankind´s history many representations of suicide were banned or locked up, in order to avoid an increase in the collective suicide-philosophy, while many others were praised as beautiful, poetic; almost Shakespearean. Some were taken as the only method of correlation, with tragic outcomes.
Paintings, poems, statues, and even films show the final moments of a doomed life. Among these idyllic muses, one is above not only for its rhythm and compass, Music talks within our hearts, to our minds, and through our souls. Music transfers emotions, it´s understood for the meaning of its essence, revealing our hidden part, exposing it by an abstract speech.
Therefore lyrics gained a new level of influence about our subconscious, maybe the lyrics don´t translate literally our thoughts or hopes, nevertheless some words talk for us, and that is the enigmatic beauty of writing a song.
Among all songs about suicide, explicit or not there´s one with more related casualities than any other, “Gloomy Sunday” by Rezső Seress. The lyrics plus the music (although the lyrics aren´t the originals) have created a feeble voice pledging for an afterlife reunion or perhaps a confession to attain.
Several versions, covers, and tributes by different artists have perfected the old saying of “Misery Loves Company”, often translated as a sad person finds some empathy in realizing about unknown people is suffering the same scheme.
I´m not analyzing the lyrics or the pitch, not even judging them, this work is an atmospheric scene of suicide written as a poetic narrative, inspired by the mention song. I recommend listening to it before reading the poem.
A lonely person is describing the traumatic aftermath, living behind walls of fog, remembering the loved one, preparing the depth rope and finally looking at the upcoming funeral.
