Premonition

Nothing is moving. Nothing.

The air is cool, the sky is dark, the city’s in ruins.

Like an Iron Fortress it stands tall, towering over the corpse of a mechanical monster.

A devil, no, a god.

The silence is cut by the scream of a woman in the distance, and the young man can do nothing but look at it in awe, unable to move due to his terror. His breaths are short and unsure.

The towering beast seems to be doing the same, a sort of dust falling from where its mouth should be. But that’s no mouth.

A metallic screech can be heard from it, its eyes begin glowing. It was now looking at the man.

His eyes split wide open, his body is covered in cold sweat. Thank god. It was just a dream. “KOJI GET UP I DIDN’T MAKE YOU BREAKFAST FOR NOTHING!!” A raspy voice coming from the outside of his room startles the newly awoken man. He’s still struggling to breathe. His respiration slowly eases itself back to normal.

“Yeah, yeah i’m coming gramps” with those words he gets out of his soft cushy bed, walks to his wardrobe and grabs one of his elegant school uniforms. Looking in the mirror he notices his messy black hair and grey eyes.

What was that dream he just had? What was that thing?

Interrupting his train of thought, a noticeably younger voice coming from downstairs yells “Hurry Koji, we’re gonna miss the bus!”. Hearing that he quickly throws on his black uniform, closes the gold buttons on it and hurries downstairs to find his younger brother, Shiro sitting at the table drinking some orange juice: “What always takes you so long?”.

Hearing this, Koji just walks over to Shiro and ruffles his short brown hair. “Maybe I’d be able to get up earlier if you let me get some rest in the afternoon instead of constantly needing my attention.” Hearing this Shiro crosses his arms and sticks out his tongue to Koji. “Grandpa, Koji is being mean again!” Their Grandfather, who was currently handing Koji a sandwich, turns to him. He’s quite a sight to behold, the top of his head doesn’t have any hair, but to compensate for that the lower sides were full of white messy hair, an impressively bushy silver mustache decorates his wrinkly face, and where his left eye should be, sits a fleshy cavity.

“Maybe instead of bickering you two could hurry up so you don’t miss the bus. How about that? It’s the only one we have and I won’t drive you to school just because you missed it.”

The conversation was interrupted by the sound of the doorbell ringing.

A muffled voice from behind the front door could be heard. “Letter for uhh, Mr. Juzo Kabuto from the national institution for photonic energy”

Hearing that name seems to enrage Kojis grandfather, he opens the front door and yells at the mailman. “HOW MANY TIMES DO I NEED TO TELL YOU PEOPLE TO STOP MAILING ME I’M NOT DONATING OR COLLABORATING WITH YOUR INSTITUTION!! YOU CAN TAKE THESE LETTERS AND SHOVE THEM UP YOUR-”

Juzo cuts off and looks back to his 2 nephews and decides not to finish the sentence. The mailman just stands there, startled. “Sir, I-I’m not part of the institute, I just deliver mail.”

Koji, who has now finished his “breakfast”, takes Shiro by his hand and walks up to the 2 men conversing. “I don’t mean to interrupt your very meaningful conversation here but I do believe we have to catch a bus now so if you’ll excuse us-”

Right as he finished his sentence the sound of a bus driving by their home was heard.

“Goddamnit.”

“Koji! Language!”

“Yeah sorry gramps, looks like we’ll need to head down the mountain by bike huh?”

Koji began grinning at this prospect.

Their grandfather sighed.

“Just this once i’ll allow you to use the motorbike, but I swear if you miss the bus one more time i’ll have you walk down by foot and if it’s the last thing I d-”

But Koji and Shiro didn’t even hear him anymore, they had already hurried to the garage.

“Alright Shiro, just put on your helmet and hang on tight alright?”

“Aww dude I love when we get to drive by motorcycle! I wanna miss the bus every day!!”

Koji just smirked at this, he was lucky that he passed as an 18 year old, otherwise he would have probably been arrested by now since he didn’t have a license.

While Shiro mounted the motorcycle, Koji opened the garage door and put on his own helmet.

“Remember, hold on tight. I don’t want you flying off the mountain.”

With those words Koji hopped on the motorcycle and revved it up. Shiro began hugging his brother from behind to hold on better.

“Ready Shiro?”

“Ready!!”
