Different Timeline (Origins: Part 1)

Part 1: A New Beginning

The morning sun painted Paris in hues of gold and rose, its warm rays streaming through the enormous windows of the Agreste mansion. Inside the grand dining room, an unusual scene was unfolding – one that would have seemed impossible in any other timeline, yet here it was, perfectly normal and wonderfully real.

Adrien Agreste sat at the massive dining table, but unlike countless mornings before, he wasn’t alone. His father, Gabriel Agreste, occupied his usual place at the head of the table, his tablet propped up against a silver coffee carafe. But it was the third presence that made the morning truly special: Emilie Agreste, as radiant as ever, gracefully buttered a croissant while regaling them with stories from her latest film project.

“The director actually wanted me to do the stunt myself,” Emilie said, her green eyes sparkling with mischief. “I told him I’d only do it if Gabriel would join me for the skydiving scene.”

Gabriel’s lips twitched. “Which, naturally, ended that discussion immediately.”

Adrien couldn’t help but laugh, the sound echoing in the usually quiet dining room. These moments – these precious, normal family moments – were everything he’d ever wanted. His mother’s presence filled the mansion with warmth that had been missing during her long shoots abroad, and even his father seemed more relaxed, more willing to smile.

“Are you excited about your first day of public school, darling?” Emilie asked, reaching across to squeeze Adrien’s hand. “I remember my first day at école – I was so nervous I put my sweater on backwards and didn’t notice until lunchtime.”

“I still can’t believe you both agreed to this,” Adrien admitted, his heart racing with anticipation. He’d dreamed of attending public school for years, watching from his window as other kids his age walked to school together, laughing and talking.

“Your mother can be quite persuasive,” Gabriel commented, setting down his tablet to give his wife a fond look. “Though I still have my reservations.”

“Because you’re a worrier, dear,” Emilie teased, then turned serious. “But your father’s right to be concerned, Adrien. The world outside these walls isn’t always kind. You’ll need to be careful.”

“I will,” Adrien promised solemnly. “I’ll make you both proud.”

“You already do,” Emilie assured him, while Gabriel nodded in agreement.

As Adrien finished his breakfast, Nathalie entered the dining room, tablet in hand as always. “Your schedule for today, Adrien,” she began, but Emilie held up a hand.

“Let’s save the scheduling for after breakfast, shall we? Family time is family time.”

Nathalie nodded, retreating to the doorway. Only Gabriel noticed the slight tremor in her hands, the way she pressed her fingers to her temple – signs of something not quite right.

Part 2: Across the City

In another part of Paris, the Dupain-Cheng bakery was already alive with activity. The smell of fresh bread and warm butter filled the air as Tom Dupain pulled another batch of croissants from the oven. Upstairs, chaos reigned in the form of one very late Marinette Dupain-Cheng.

“I’m late, I’m late, I’m so incredibly late!” Marinette’s voice preceded her dramatic entrance as she tumbled down the stairs, somehow managing to catch herself before face-planting into a tray of fresh pastries.

“Marinette!” Sabine called out, already holding up a pink box of macarons. “Don’t forget these for your class!”

“Thanks, Maman!” Marinette grinned, carefully tucking the box into her backpack. She paused to kiss both her parents on the cheek. “This year will be different – I can feel it!”

“Different how?” Tom asked, dusting flour from his hands.

“I don’t know exactly,” Marinette admitted, bouncing on her toes. “But something amazing is going to happen. I just know it!”

Sabine and Tom exchanged knowing looks as their daughter rushed out the door, nearly colliding with a customer in her haste.

“Be careful!” Sabine called after her. “And don’t forget to---” The door closed before she could finish. “---wear your lucky charm,” she finished with a sigh.

Part 3: The Guardian’s Decision

Hidden away in a quiet corner of Paris, an ancient gramophone sat in an equally ancient massage parlor. Master Fu stood before it, his weathered hands hovering over its ornate surface. His faithful kwami, Wayzz, floated nearby, radiating concern.

“Master,” Wayzz began hesitantly, “are you certain about choosing them both today? The signs---”

“The signs are clearer than they have been in centuries, old friend.” Master Fu pressed the hidden buttons on the gramophone, revealing the Miracle Box in all its glory. The box opened like a blooming flower, revealing the miraculous jewels nestled within.

But it was what lay beneath that truly concerned the Guardian. His fingers traced the edges of a hidden compartment, one that even most kwamis didn’t know existed. “There’s something else they must know about eventually. Something I had hoped would remain hidden for another generation at least.”

Inside the secret compartment lay a miraculous unlike any other – the Celestial Miraculous. Its surface seemed to shimmer with an inner light, like starlight captured in crystal. Even now, after centuries of guardianship, Fu could feel its power calling to him, promising things beyond imagination.

“The Celestial Miraculous,” Wayzz whispered, a rare note of awe in his voice. “Its power rivals that of Creation and Destruction combined.”

“And like them, it requires perfect balance,” Fu added gravely. “The wrong wielder could reshape reality itself.” He closed the compartment with a decisive click. “But first, we must focus on choosing our Ladybug and Cat Noir. The time has come.”

Part 4: Secrets Within Secrets

In Gabriel’s private atelier, another secret meeting was taking place. Gabriel and Nathalie stood over his desk, where specialized equipment had been set up around the Peacock Miraculous. Under the magnifying glass, the damage was clearly visible – hairline fractures running through the magical crystal at its core, pulsing with unstable energy.

“The damage appears to be concentrated in the core crystal structure,” Nathalie observed, adjusting her glasses to peer more closely at the readings on their equipment. “Each use seems to destabilize it further.”

Gabriel frowned, his fingers hovering over the damaged jewel. “We must find a way to repair it without arousing suspicion. Emilie must never know about its condition.” His expression darkened. “She would blame herself.”

“Sir,” Nathalie began carefully, “perhaps if we told her the truth about how it was damaged---”

“No.” Gabriel’s tone left no room for argument. “The last thing we need is for her to worry about this. She’s finally fully recovered from her last... episode. I won’t risk her health again.”

Nathalie nodded, but her concerned expression remained. “The readings suggest the damage is spreading, albeit slowly. We may need to consider more... unconventional methods of repair.”

Gabriel’s hand moved to his cravat, where the butterfly miraculous lay hidden. “Perhaps,” he mused, “that’s exactly what we need. Something unconventional.” He turned to the portrait of Emilie that dominated the wall. “I will do whatever it takes to protect our family, Nathalie. Whatever it takes.”

Part 5: First Meetings

The morning at Collège Françoise Dupont began like any other – students streaming through the gates, chattering about their summer adventures and new class assignments. But today was different, though few would realize just how different until much later.

Marinette arrived just in time to see a sleek silver car pull up to the curb. Her attention, like everyone else’s, was drawn to the boy who stepped out – Adrien Agreste, teen model and son of her fashion idol. But before she could process this development, she noticed an elderly man struggling with his cane near the school steps.

To her surprise, Adrien noticed too. Without hesitation, he hurried to help the old man, completely ignoring the whispers and stares from other students.

“Are you alright, sir?” Adrien asked, offering his arm for support.

“Ah, such a kind young man,” the elderly man (Master Fu in disguise) said with a gentle smile. As he regained his balance, he secretly slipped a small box into Adrien’s bag.

Marinette, watching this scene unfold, didn’t notice Master Fu’s quick movement as he passed her, nor did she feel the weight of another small box being added to her own backpack.

Part 6: The First Transformation

Classes passed in a blur for both Marinette and Adrien. It wasn’t until lunch break that either of them discovered the mysterious boxes in their bags.

Marinette sat alone on a bench in the courtyard, reaching into her bag for her sketchbook when her fingers brushed against something unfamiliar. The small hexagonal box seemed to hum with energy beneath her fingertips.

Meanwhile, in the library, Adrien had discovered his own box while searching for a textbook. Both teenagers opened their boxes at almost the exact same moment, and two flashes of light – one red, one green – illuminated their respective spaces.

“AHHHH!” Marinette’s shriek was thankfully muffled by her quick thinking to clamp both hands over her mouth as a small red creature materialized before her.

“Don’t be afraid!” the creature said quickly, its voice high and sweet. “I’m Tikki, and I’m a kwami. I’ve been waiting to meet you, Marinette!”

“A... kwami?” Marinette whispered, her eyes wide with wonder. “Wait – how do you know my name?”

In the library, Adrien was having a similarly startling introduction.

“Yo, kid! The name’s Plagg,” a small black cat-like creature announced, floating lazily in front of Adrien’s face. “Got any cheese?”

“This is... incredible,” Adrien breathed, his photographer’s smile replaced by genuine wonder. “Are you some kind of genie?”

“Please, genies are so last millennium,” Plagg scoffed. “I’m a kwami, and I’m here to give you the power of destruction. Pretty cool, right?”

Both kwamis explained the basics to their chosen wielders – the powers they would receive, the responsibility they would bear, and most importantly, the need for secrecy.

“Usually,” Tikki explained to Marinette, “your identity must remain a complete secret, even from your partner. But...” she hesitated, looking thoughtful. “I sense something different about this timeline. The usual rules... they might not apply here.”

“Timeline?” Marinette asked, but before Tikki could respond, screams erupted from outside.

Part 7: Catalyst Rises

In his hidden lair, Gabriel Agreste stood surrounded by white butterflies, the massive window before him casting intricate shadows across the floor.

“Nooroo,” he addressed the purple kwami floating beside him, “I take no pleasure in this. But to fix the Peacock Miraculous, to protect my family... I need to understand the full extent of miraculous power.”

“Master,” Nooroo began hesitantly, “there are other ways...”

“Dark wings, rise!”

The transformation into Hawk Moth was magnificent and terrible. Purple light engulfed Gabriel, replacing his designer suit with the costume of Paris’s first supervillain.

“For my first akuma,” he declared, “I need someone special... someone who can amplify my powers.” He infused a butterfly with dark energy. “Fly away, my little akuma, and transform Nathalie!”

In her office, Nathalie sat at her desk, reviewing security footage of Adrien’s arrival at school. The akuma phased into her tablet, and Hawk Moth’s voice filled her mind.

“Catalyst, I give you the power to amplify abilities. Together, we will test the limits of miraculous power – and perhaps find a way to repair what’s broken. Do you accept?”

Nathalie’s response was immediate: “Yes, Hawk Moth.”

Red energy engulfed her, transforming her into Catalyst. Her suit was sleek and crimson, with circuit-like patterns running across it that pulsed with power.

Part 8: First Flight

“Spots on!” “Claws out!”

Two phrases, spoken in different parts of the school, triggered transformations that would change Paris forever. Marinette felt the magic wash over her, replacing her everyday clothes with a suit of red and black spots. Adrien’s transformation cloaked him in black leather, complete with a belt-tail and cat ears.

Their first moments as superheroes were filled with equal parts wonder and panic.

“This is amazing!” Ladybug exclaimed, examining her spotted suit. “But how do I--” She was cut off as her yo-yo accidentally wrapped around her legs, sending her tumbling.

Cat Noir wasn’t doing much better. “Okay, just need to get my bearings and-- whoa!” His extendable staff suddenly extended, launching him into the air. “THIS IS AWESOME!”

Their solo adventures in testing their powers were cut short by more screams. Catalyst had appeared in the school courtyard, her mere presence causing electronics to go haywire and amplifying negative emotions in everyone nearby.

“Time to test these powers for real,” Ladybug muttered, swinging her yo-yo experimentally. She launched herself onto the roof, only to collide with something – or someone – mid-air.

“Well, hello there, m’lady,” Cat Noir grinned from where they had landed in a tangled heap. “Fancy meeting you here.”

“You must be my partner,” Ladybug said, quickly untangling herself. Her retort was cut short as she tackled him out of the way of an energy blast from Catalyst.

Part 9: The First Battle

The fight that followed was chaos incarnate. Catalyst’s power amplification abilities made her a formidable first opponent. Every time Ladybug or Cat Noir got close, she would amplify their powers unpredictably – making Ladybug’s yo-yo too powerful to control or Cat Noir’s Cataclysm too unstable to use safely.

“We need a plan!” Cat Noir called out, dodging another blast. “Any ideas, Bugaboo?”

“Don’t call me-- wait, that’s it!” Ladybug’s eyes lit up with inspiration. “Lucky Charm!”

A mirror fell into her hands. Looking around with her Lucky Vision, she quickly formed a plan.

“Cat Noir, when I say now, use Cataclysm on the ground beneath her!”

“But she’ll just amplify it!”

“Exactly!”

Understanding dawned in Cat Noir’s eyes. “Brilliant and beautiful – I think I’m in love!”

The plan worked perfectly. When Catalyst amplified Cat Noir’s Cataclysm, Ladybug used the mirror to redirect the excess energy back at her, overloading her powers. The tablet broke, releasing the akuma, which Ladybug quickly purified.

“Miraculous Ladybug!” The swarm of magical ladybugs restored everything to normal, leaving a confused Nathalie sitting on the ground.

Part 10: Revelations

As the sun began to set over Paris, the two heroes found themselves sitting on the Eiffel Tower, legs dangling over the edge as they watched their city recover from its first superhero battle.

“We make quite a team,” Cat Noir observed, looking at his partner with undisguised admiration.

“We do,” Ladybug agreed, then added thoughtfully, “My kwami said something interesting earlier. About how the usual rules might not apply in this timeline.”

“Timeline?” Cat Noir’s ears perked up. “Plagg mentioned something similar. About how things are different here.”

They sat in contemplative silence for a moment.

“Maybe,” Ladybug said slowly, “that means we can be different too. Maybe... maybe we don’t have to hide from each other.”

Cat Noir’s eyes widened. “Are you suggesting what I think you’re suggesting?”

“We’re partners,” Ladybug said firmly. “If we’re going to protect Paris, we should trust each other completely. No secrets, no masks – at least between us.”

“Are you sure?”

“No,” she laughed. “But I think it’s right. On three?”

“One...”

“Two...”

“Three!”

Pink and green light washed over them, revealing Marinette and Adrien. Their shocked expressions quickly gave way to laughter and disbelief.

“It’s you!” they exclaimed simultaneously.

“The boy who helped that old man this morning,” Marinette realized.

“The girl who always stands up for others,” Adrien added.

They spent the next hour talking, really talking, sharing their fears and hopes about their new responsibilities. As the stars began to appear above Paris, they made a pact – to always be honest with each other, to face whatever came next together.

Later that night, Gabriel stood in his atelier, watching as Emilie read peacefully on a nearby chaise lounge. His hand unconsciously moved to his tie, where the butterfly miraculous lay hidden.

“The test was successful,” he thought. “Now we know the extent of what miraculous power can do. But will it be enough to fix what’s broken?”

His gaze lingered on his wife, noting how she occasionally pressed her hand to her chest – where a brooch would once have rested. The Peacock Miraculous lay hidden in his safe, its damage a constant reminder of past mistakes.

Unknown to all of them, in Master Fu’s shop, the Celestial Miraculous glowed faintly in its hidden compartment. Its power pulsed in rhythm with the heartbeats of Paris’s new heroes, as if recognizing that its time would soon come.

And in their respective rooms, Marinette and Adrien lay awake, thinking about each other, about their new powers, and about the strange twists of fate that had brought them together.

This was just the beginning – the first chapter in a very different story for Paris’s heroes. In this timeline, where masks couldn’t hide them from each other, their bond would be tested in ways they couldn’t imagine. But for now, they had each other, and that felt like enough.

As Tikki and Plagg watched their chosen ones drift off to sleep, the two kwamis shared a knowing look. This timeline was different indeed, and perhaps that was exactly what was needed to face the challenges that lay ahead. What was happening? It felt like everything had... shifted realities. Emelie has died in this timeline somehow, and all of the characters already know about it. It’s like the universe is glitching... Gabriel is back to his old motive.
