Chapter 1

*Evon P.O.V.*

The sun bled orange and crimson across the horizon, painting the sky in hues I usually associated with Lezah – fiery, passionate, beautiful.  But tonight, the beauty felt like a cruel mockery.  I stood behind her, my lips brushing her temple, the gesture feeling as hollow as the promise I was about to break.

Two months. That’s all it took. Two months with Anya, and the years I spent with Lezah felt… faded.  Like an old photograph, the colors muted, the edges blurred.  It wasn't a sudden, dramatic shift.  It was a slow, insidious creep, a gradual erosion of feeling I hadn't even noticed until it was too late.

Lezah’s long hair, usually a cascade of vibrant auburn, felt heavy tonight, a burden I no longer wished to carry.  Her scent, once intoxicating, now felt… ordinary.  The way she laughed, once music to my ears, now grated on my nerves.  I caught myself thinking about Anya’s laugh, lighter, brighter, more… exciting.

It wasn't that Anya was inherently better.  It was that she was different.  She represented something new, something fresh, a thrilling escape from the comfortable monotony of my life with Lezah.  With Lezah, everything was familiar, predictable.  With Anya, there was a constant spark, a sense of adventure, a feeling of being alive in a way I hadn't felt in years.  The comfort had become suffocating.  The familiar, boring.

It wasn't that I didn't love Lezah anymore.  Or at least, I thought I didn't.  The truth was more complicated, more insidious.  It was a slow, agonizing process of falling out of love, a gradual dimming of the flame, until only embers remained.  And those embers, I realized, were easily snuffed out by the brighter blaze of a new infatuation.

The kiss on her temple felt like a betrayal, a final, silent goodbye to the woman who had once been my world.  I pulled away, the sunset mirroring the turmoil within me.  The vibrant colors felt like a cruel joke, highlighting the emptiness I felt.  I knew what I had to do, even though the thought of it sent a cold dread through me.  I had to tell her.  I had to break her heart.  And as I turned to face her, I knew there would be no turning back.

Half-Claimed

Bargara4670: Half-Claimed was easy to read with a well-thought-out plot that kept me interested throughout. Many of these revenge stories seem to have the abused heroine turning into a vicious harpy who I end up disliking as much as her abusers. I like to feel empathy with the main characters, and I found that I...
