Chapter 1 : The Devil's Bargain
The elevator hummed as it climbed - floor after floor - pulling Elena Moretti toward the penthouse office no one ever talked about out loud.
Thorn Industries.
The most powerful private tech company in the city.
Everyone whispered stories about the man who ran it.
Xander Thorn.
A ghost.
A myth.
A devil wrapped in Armani.
They said he never hired women.
They said no one ever saw him - only felt him watching through security cameras.
They said anyone who worked too close to him... never lasted.
Elena’s heart pounded as the elevator stopped at the top floor.
She needed this job - even if every instinct inside her was screaming run.
The doors slid open.
The air was different up here - thicker, warmer - like the whole building was holding its breath.
Her heels echoed against black marble floors as she walked down the hallway.
Glass walls stretched high, making her feel small - exposed.
He was watching.
She could feel it.
The office door stood at the end - heavy, black, waiting.
Her fingers trembled as she knocked once.
Nothing.
She swallowed hard and pushed the door open.
He was there.
Standing behind the glass wall - back turned - cigarette smoke curling through the dim light.
Xander Thorn.
The sight of him punched the breath from her lungs.
Tall.
Broad.
Dark.
He wore black - shirt unbuttoned at the throat, sleeves rolled up, veins dark beneath pale skin.
His hair was messy, black strands falling over sharp cheekbones.
He didn’t move.
Didn’t speak.
Oh God...
He was beautiful in the way that monsters were beautiful - dangerous without even trying.
“You’re late.”
His voice slid through the room - low and smooth, like silk dragged over gravel.
Elena’s throat closed.
“I- I got lost.”
---
A long silence.
He turned slowly... silver eyes flicking over her body like a touch she could feel.
Her nipples hardened under her blouse.
He saw.
He always saw.
---
“You didn’t get lost.”
His mouth curled into something cold.
“You stood outside my door... debating whether to come in.”
Her breath caught.
How the hell did he know that?
---
He stalked closer - slow, deliberate - like he enjoyed making her squirm.
“I watch everything in this building, Miss Moretti.”
His silver eyes never blinked.
“Even when no one knows they’re being watched.”
---
Heat flushed through her body - shame curling low between her thighs.
What the hell was wrong with her?
---
She forced herself to speak.
“I... I’m here for the assistant position.”
His smirk deepened - like she’d just offered him something much more sinful.
“You signed the contract without reading the fine print... didn’t you?”
---
Her pulse stammered.
What fine print?
---
His fingers trailed along the glass desk - slow, lazy - like he was imagining what it would feel like to bend her over it.
---
“You think you’re here to type emails and take phone calls.”
His voice dropped lower.
“You’re not.”
---
Elena’s mouth went dry.
“I don’t understand-”
---
“You will.”
---
He circled behind her - close enough that she could feel the heat of his body... the way his breath brushed against her neck.
---
“You see, little girl...”
His voice was a dark purr.
“I don’t hire assistants.”
---
Her heart slammed in her chest.
---
“I hire... possessions.”
---
Heat bloomed between her thighs - uninvited, unwanted - but he fucking felt it.
His breath caught.
His silver eyes flicked down her body, nostrils flaring - like he could smell how wet she was.
---
Elena’s whole body flushed.
---
“I don’t belong to anyone,” she whispered.
---
A slow, wicked smile curved his mouth.
---
“Not yet.”
---
His hand lifted - fingers brushing her chin, tilting her face up.
Her breath caught.
His skin was cold - like something not quite human.
---
“You walked into my building.”
His thumb traced her lower lip - testing, teasing.
“You signed the contract.”
---
Her lips parted - breath trembling against his thumb.
---
“And now...”
His silver eyes locked on hers.
“You belong to me.”
---
A shiver ran down her spine - but she didn’t pull away.
---
Because some dark, broken part of her wanted him to prove it.
---
Xander leaned in - his mouth brushing the shell of her ear.
---
“Do you know what demons crave most, Miss Moretti?”
Her pulse fluttered.
---
“Pleasure.”
---
Her thighs clenched.
---
His thumb slid lower - tracing down her throat... stopping right over the pulse hammering beneath her skin.
---
“You smell like heaven.”
His breath was hot against her ear.
“I could break you without ever laying a hand on you.”
---
Her breath hitched.
Fuck.
Why wasn’t she running?
Why was her body begging him to keep going?
---
“Sign the second contract,” he whispered.
“One night for one year.”
His teeth grazed her ear.
“One night to taste your sin... and you’ll never want to leave.”
---
Her knees wobbled.
---
“You... you’re insane.”
---
His smile sharpened.
---
“I’m a devil, little girl.”
“And you’re already bound to me.”
“To Be Continued”
What’s Next?
