Prologue

“DAD! NO!” Oswald screamed as the yellow rabbit grabbed his father and threw him into the ball pit.

Oswald didn’t know what to do. He just screamed and watched in horror as his father’s body disappeared among the colorful balls.

He stood frozen, petrified and terrified. He wanted to do something, but his legs wouldn’t move. He looked around for Jeff or any other diner who could help, but there was no one in sight.

He wanted to scream for help, but his throat was dry, and he couldn’t say a word. His body was immersed in the deepest terror.

Then, he heard the distinct sound of plastic balls shifting. He turned around, and to his horror, the blue eyes of the yellow beast were staring at him.

The rabbit stood up and adjusted the bowtie around its neck, never taking its eyes off of him.

Oswald backed away into a pathetic defensive stance.

“Wh-What did you do to my dad? Where is he?”

The rabbit didn’t say a word and began to leave the ball pit. This alarmed the boy, thinking that he would be next. So, he started running toward the door that led to the pizzeria’s dining area. However, his arm was grabbed firmly, causing the boy to panic.

“NO!” he screamed, falling to the ground, crying. “PLEASE, DON’T HURT ME AGAIN! PLEASE!”

The rabbit looked at him. It held him firmly, but wasn’t hurting him.

The boy must really be terrified. The rabbit hadn’t expected him to just collapse to the floor, crying and screaming like this.

The rabbit knelt and wrapped the boy in its arms in an almost soothing hug, as if he were a frightened baby. Then, it began walking toward the exit.

Oswald didn’t move. He was afraid of what might happen if he moved while so close to this monster. He watched as the rabbit paused for a moment to look at Jeff.

“Did he get hurt?” Jeff asked with his tired and worried expression. The rabbit shook its head and began walking toward the exit. “See you later, Oswald.”

What? Why wasn’t Jeff reacting?

Didn’t he see the two-meter-tall monster in front of him?

The rabbit took him to the car and gently placed him inside, carefully securing his seatbelt before sitting in the driver’s seat and starting the car.

He glanced at the boy through the rearview mirror, who was still sobbing and seemed to want to curl up into a ball.

He sighed mentally. He had a lot of work ahead.
