Dearest Reader,ο»Ώ
For the girls reading my book, I know it hurts to walk away from the person who you believed was your person. It hurts to accept that they arenβt as committed to the idea of building a relationship with you as you are with them. Even months or years after you take the decision to end things with them, you still mourn over what you couldβve been. You ache over how beautiful you were together and how much happiness you couldβve experienced if only they showed up to love you the right way. If only they made an effort and tried to do away with their toxic habits. Some people, they cost themselves a once in a lifetime kind of love and they break your heart. Youβre the one who saw the connection, felt it and knew the potential it carried, but they didnβt. They didnβt know it then, but one day, they will. One day theyβll be the one hurting once they realize how many chances they had to turn things around, but instead all they did was drive you further and further away.
Not all love is good love and not all energy is good energy. Just because they love you, doesnβt give them the right to belittle you. No one is doing you any favors and you definitely donβt owe anyone anything. So if it doesnβt feel like home, then you have the right to leave. You donβt have to stay if you donβt want to and you donβt have to pretend youβre on good terms.
This was the year I met heartbreak and I welcomed grief. I learned that life is cruel and uncalled for and nothing but chaos the majority of the time. I learned that the future is an illusion and the past is a prison. And in learning to let go, I learned to hold on to what mattered. This was the year I learned that people will betray you and justify it. I learned that not everyone is good and that some people are evil. This was the year that taught me strength and everything in between.
But know this, love is when two people feel the same way about each other and none of them have any recollection of how it started. Of how it began. Love is two people knowing how much they care without having to remind each other constantly. Without making each other feel left out. Love is when two people just know. When they understand each other without the use of words. When they speak their own language and no one else seems to get it but them. Love is two people who stay. Who form a bond as they go on. Who canβt seem to make sense of their own lives without each other. Love is kind. Two people being patient with each other. Two people giving each other time, their own time. Every precious moment that could be spent doing something else. Love is two people growing together, giving each other guidance, giving each other the kind of spark that sets their souls on fire. Love is showing it. That you care, that you appreciate it, that youβre willing to sacrifice anything to make the relationship work. Love is two people, two hearts, two souls, two bodies becoming one.
And for the girls who lost themselves in a guy they thought they loved, please tell me what the rest of your life is like without them. You are enough. And with that, enjoy reading my book.
