Introduction

Halls. They always seem to go on for miles. I stand still in the doorway, watching them stretch to who knows how far. Darkness awaits at the end.

Everything was so bright just a second ago.  I walked up the stairs as students littered the courtyard. Yet, I've entered the building, not a person, not a sound, Not a door in sight. Only halls. I turn around and see the door behind me is gone as well. I have no choice now, but to push forward on the hallway to hell. Every step carrying more wait, every stall telling me to go back. But there's no way out. I'm back at Mom and Dad's house.

Everything's so dark. I trace the walls to navigate. Suddenly, I'm on the ground, eyes shut and head pounding.

"Watch it, Fuckface!" I open my eyes to the sound of someone yelling profanities. Are they yelling at me?  I look around,  almost magically, the hallway is filled with students all staring at me. I look up at an angry boy glaring back down at me. "You got shit for brains?! You can't just touch people like that!" I feel my body begin to freeze as my head cries "no!" My face becomes hot and red and tears begin to fall. Everyone still watching, the only words I can mutter are "I'm sorry. I didn't mean it," repeatedly. I don't blink, I don't move a muscle, I can't move at all. Snickers emerge from the crowd, herds of guys mock me in wild tones and voices. Every girl laughs at their sick jokes. As soon as the tiniest bit of feeling comes back to me, I bolt for the bathroom. I dash past the smiling faces and evil eyes. Everyone amused except for one girl, she looks away as I reach the restroom.

I clasp the sink in panic, daring not to look in the mirror. But I do. I look. My eyes are red and full of tears. I just got here not 5 minutes ago. Yet, I find myself breaking down in the powder room. I feel my tears burn my face as I clutch my heart, piercing my chest with my nails. Still staring into the mirror, still staring at my soaked face.

"I'll give you a reason to cry." Says my father, somewhere hidden.

I bow my head, "No!"

"Oh yeah, you wanna whine?" He continues.

"Dad, please!" I plead.

My neck feels as if I'm being strangled.

"WE DIDN'T EVEN WANT YOU!" Dad yells in my face.

I scream as he raises me by my neck. I scream until there's nothing left. He dropped me to the floor, as I cough up the last bit of life in me. I cough up my own blood. I look up and see mom, praying she'd help me. Instead, she slaps the sit out of me. "Clean up this blood! You're ruining my floor!" She shrieks. I can't move.

"Hey."

I'm motionless.

"Are you deaf?"

My vision's getting blurry.

"Hey!"

"Hey!"

"HEY, SNAP OUT OF IT!"

I jolt myself up and look around. Mom and Dad were never there. The floor is spotless. My neck and throat is fine. I look up to see the bathroom door closed and the unamused girl staring into my eyes.

"Are you alright? You were screaming," she speaks in a gentle tone.

I shake myself back to reality and realize how embarrassing my little episode must have been. My head jerks away and I cover my face with my hands. Footsteps descend and I assume she's gone. I couldn't be more wrong. She takes my hands down and wipes my face with some napkins as she sits right in front of me. I jump away from her in fear.

"Hey, it's okay. They can't hurt you." She insists, extending her hand out to me. "You're okay."

Just as I reach my hand out to meet her's, the bell blares and she snatches it away.

Her eyes widen, I feel heat permeate from her. "This never happened, got it? You don't know me." And with that, she ran out of the bathroom.

She was right, I don't know her.

Fated to My Ex- Best Friend

MaybeInACentury: This is probably the best book I've ever read in a really really long time. I couldn't stop once I started. Golden find. Though I do wish the story was written in present tense rather than in past tense, or had an epilogue about what is happening now, it is a masterpiece.
