I hear them cooing as they point their fingers and poke my cheeks with smiles. I wonder why? What was so intriguing about my cheeks? Why did this make them so happy?
After a time, I wondered what had changed. The smiles and cooing, along with pinching my cheeks, faded out. Why did they leave? Why didn't they return? Well, they did, but it seemed it was only a once-a-year thing. The thrill of seeing me seemed to fade out. They had no interest in me anymore. Why was that? What did I do? Did I do something wrong? Maybe I'm meant to entertain them? Perhaps then they'll see me again? When they visited, I'd watch them with their glasses with golden liquid inside. I wondered what it would taste like. They had a lot of fun with it, but the following day, they'd get so grumpy and mad. I know to stay away when this happens now. Not that they paid me much attention anyway. I wasn't the popular attraction anymore. Now I'm just the object. The child who never spoke. Not by choice. I just don't know how to interact with them.
I believed this to be my life, but little did I know that I had another life entirely waiting for me. I just didn't know how complicated it would be to keep it.
