Dreamer
Milk in a pitcher squealed loudly.
A brunette with long hair and hazel blue green eyes leaned against the counter her eyes distant. One hand toyed with a strand of her hair as she stared into oblivion.
A blonde with brown hair went up to the pitcher and adjusted, "Hello, Brin, where are you?"
Brin smiled, "Thank you, sorry."
"Is it Waycrest?" Lyra asked with a little worry.
Waycrest was a sprawling hotel that looked like a castle. Lyra had talked Brin into taking a summer job at the cafe there.
"No," she shrugged, "I was just thinking for my English final."
"I thought it was done and over? We go to Waycrest tomorrow..."
"Yes, it is done. I am just worried about it," she tucked the hair behind her ear, "I will be ok."
The truth was that she was thinking of her dream last night. She had this same dream several nights in a row.
He was there staring down at her. His hair was dark blonde, and his eyes were a hazel green. Scales appeared all over his skin. His eyes became yellow with a slit and his teeth elongated. Suddenly he was a dragon staring down at her before flapping his wings and flying away.
Brin did not know what the dream meant, but it had to have some purpose.
"Well, I hope that you are more present when we get to Waycrest. Thr manager there seems very serious."
Brin gulped. Lyra had handled all of the arrangements for the trip. She had to even talked to the manager. In a way, Brin, felt as though she was just tagging along with her friend.
Lyra handed her a cup, and Brin focused on making the Macchiato. She shook her head knowing she needed to get her head straight.
Going to college in the UK was a dream come true. Brin was originally from the States. At first, it had been a bit of a culture shock, but after two years, she had gotten into the rhythem. Last year, she had gone back to the States for the summer.
Her parents were disappointed that she wasn't coming home. Yet, they didn't have the money to bring her home, and most of her money had gone to college supplies.
The rest of her shift went by quickly.
As Lyra and her ended their shift, the two stood in the backroom, taking off their aprons.
"Ready for our trip tomorrow?" Lyra asked. She would be driving them to Waycrest.
"Yes," Brin nodded a sense of forboding settling on her.
An hour later, she was putting the last item into a cardboard box. She held the small teddy bear wearing the university sweatshirt that she had bought a foot all game as she stared out the window.
With a sigh, she tucked the twddy bear into the box and taped it up. There was a knock at her door and Brin turned towars it.
Lyra, who was in the same Dorm stood in the doorway, "Just checking on you. No second thoughts about going?"
"No," Brin smiled, "I'm all packed."
Lyra nodded, "I am too."
The two of them would be dropping off the boxs at Lyra's parents house on the way out to Waycrest.
"Well," Lyra smiled, "Better get to sleep. I will see you at seven tomorrow morning!"
"Yes," Brin smiled, "I will see you then."
"Night!" Lyra closed the door.
Brin smiled as she changed into her night shirt and shorts. She crawled into bed a bit apprehensive that the dream wouls come back so she tossed and turned.
Around midnight she got up and fixed herself a cup of chamomile tea with her electric tea kettle. She blamed her restless night on her nerves.
Surely, she was just nervous about the trip.
Brin sipped the chamomile tea gingerly and took out her phone. She clicked on an app with free books and became lost in a good mystery. Once she felt a bit better she went back to sleep.
