Chapter 1

The wind was beautiful this time of year. Fall was always Levi’s favorite season. The colours were beautiful and the air was clear. She took a deep breath and continued reading. Today was a great day, she finished work early, her new book got released and she had saved up enough points to basically get it for free. Nothing could ruin her mood. As if life it self said ‘watch this’ the sounds of sirens alerted the bubbly girl. Looking up in confusion she noticed the fire truck screaming down the street. Slight panic set in as there weren’t many buildings on this end of town. As she watch them turn left going up the hill, full panic set in. The only building down that road was her apartment. Slamming her book shut, she quickly grabbed her things and ran as fast as her legs would take her. Levy was not very tall, standing at 5’ even, but she ran as if that didn’t matter. Finally reaching her apartment, she dropped her items as her hands clasped her mouth. In front of was her home set a blaze. Her legs wobbled as she fell, still unable to process what was happening. The sound of more sirens shook her from her state, allowing herself to view her surroundings. She saw all the people outside, some she knew, some she didn’t. She casts her view to the fire fighters. There were three trucks now, all battling the flames from different angles. She watched them run in and out of the building. She sat there and watch for what felt like hours till the flames had died down. People started shuffling off, finding a new temporary home to live in. The problem was, she had no where. Her parents died just a few years ago in a car crash. She had no siblings. She did have one cousin but he lived in another country making it slightly harder to move all the way out there. As more and more people left she realized she was alone. Tears started falling from her eyes, soon she was full on sobbing. She didn’t know what to do, where to go. She had nothing.

“Hey are you alright?” a gruff voice asked. She wiped the tears from her eyes and looked up. There stood one of the fire fighters, and he was very easy on the eyes. He was quite tall, given Levi’s height, everyone was tall. His long black, untamed hair pulled into a ponytail. He had his jacket off which allowed Levy to see he was toned, very toned. His poor shirt screaming as it stretched around his arms.

“Hey, I asked if you were alright? Everyone else has left. Do you need a phone or a ride somewhere?” he more demanded then asked. For someone so good looking, he was very grumpy. Levy was about to ask for a phone but realized, again, that she was alone. Tears formed in her eyes again and, without warning, she began to cry.

“Whoa! Why did you start crying all of a sudden! I just asked if you needed help!” Levy tried to calm herself, “I…don’t…I…”

“You don’t what?” his patience apparently was thin. Levy cried again, she couldn’t stop. She was having such a nice day too. The fire fighter kneeled down, grabbing her face in his large hands.

“Listen to me. Do you need somewhere to stay or are you good. If you start blubbering again I’m going to leave.” Normally when a stranger get right up in your face, your get intimidated, but not Levy. She was angry now, so very angry. How darn this man think she should be okay with what is happening.

“Clearly I am not okay thank you very much. And if I’m such a bother then you can leave. I’m already alone now that I have no house!” that last part she didn’t mean to come out. Why should she have to explain anything to this handsome asshole.

“Ohh good you can speak. So you have nothing then…” Levy could only nod and fight back the tears that threatened her again.

With a sigh the man lifted her up. “Hey, what the heck,” just because she was small didn’t mean he could just move her around.

“Look I don’t normally do this, especially to a person I literally just met but I know somewhere you can stay for a bit. Rent is really cheap so the area sucks. If your interested grab your shit and come with me.”

Levy just blinked at him. With a heavy sigh he walked away. “You coming?” he yelled back. With that, she sprung into motion and followed the stranger.

When he said the area sucks what he meant was it was the worst part of town she had ever seen. It smelled, there was garbage everywhere and so many drunk people. If she wasn’t with this large man, she would of turned and ran the other way. They pulled up to a building that looked like it would crumble down with the next huge storm.

“Well, this is it.” The firefighter stated. Levy laughed.

“Why are you laughing?” he grunted.

“This is a good prank, I almost completely feel for it. You can’t expect me to believe this is where I will be living?” The confusion on his face made Levy gulp. Yep, her life sucked. The firefighter just walked inside, Levy right on his heels, more afraid of the outside then the in.

The inside was way nicer then the out. High ceilings and the old brick added charm to the place. The strangers loud steps echoed in the room. Levy’s eyes fell on two gorgeous women. One with silver hair and one with blond. Both looking bored.

“Hello Gajeel, how was your night?” The silver haired women asked. It occurred to Levy at that point that she never actually got the man’s name.

“Hey Mira, it was busy. Large fire in the north. Don’t know the cause yet.” His manners apparently stayed cold towards everyone. “I need a favor, this girl here lost her home to that fire, do we have somewhere to put her?” The two ladies looked around Gajeel and stared at Levy. She gave a small smile and a wave. The silver hair women name Mira smiled back at her but the smile didn’t feel warming, more plotting. “So you need a place to stay? Yeah I can put you in room 7…” she was cut off by Gajeel’s protests , “She can’t be in room 7, that’s joint to mine!” Mira smiled at him saying “That’s the only room we have, she can take it or leave it.” A shiver ran down Levy’s spine. All her warnings were going off to accept the offer. “It’s fine, thank you so much. It’s better then on the streets.”

“Great here’s your key, we can worry about the paper work in the morning, Lucy can come by sometime tomorrow with it.” Levy looked over to the blonde named Lucy and smiled. Levy and Gajeel left to head towards the elevators. The rest of the journey was quiet only small sighs and grumbles from the firefighter could be heard. Reaching her door Levy suddenly felt weak. The stress of the day getting to her. She felt giant arms wrap around her and pick her. Normally she would protest being carried but she didn’t have the strength. Gajeel opened her door and gently placed her on the bed, throwing a blanket over her.

“There’s a door here that connects to my room, if you need anything just knock.” With that he left. Levy pulled the blanket closer and cried, shed cried till there was nothing left.
