Chapter 1- The Ailment
The heavy hooves of a horse echoed through the crowded forest. Trees as tall as skyscrapers surround both of their peripherals as sticks, terrain seemed to crumble underneath the hooves. Jeremiah was a man on a mission to find a certain plant in the enchanted forest that could cure the terminal sickness affecting his mother. He clicked his teeth to bring his horse, Antonius to a stop. Jeremiah hops off Antonius and gently rubbed its mane “Hold on, boy. I see it.” He kneeled beside the horse and saw a bright blue flower with a pollen right on top of it. He takes a deep breath and mumbles “Hello, Beautiful.” He took a sturdy glove and a container and dumped all the rich pollen inside of it. He takes a deep breath and whispers “Hold on, Mom. Help is coming.” As he said that a beautiful voice came ringing through the forest. The hairs on his arms and neck stood up, goosebumps went up and down his spine. He quickly stuck the container into his satchel on the side of the horse and tied up Antonius to a nearby tree before quietly walking through the forest to find this angelic singing voice.
As he walked, he came across a clearing and soon a tall, blonde headed girl came walking across a field singing. Within seconds he gave away his presence and stepped on a twig. She stopped in her tracks and turned around before laying eyes on the stranger. For seconds, the forest around them seemed to be an ominous silence between them before the girl approached him saying “Why, hello kind stranger.” Her voice was like silk and honey to his ears and for seconds words nearly left his mind “Hello, I couldn’t help but hear your singing.” The sweetest smile dawned on her face “I hope I didn’t disturb you.” He shook his head vigorously “Oh no, quite the opposite. My name is Prince Jeremiah.” That same infectious smile was still on her face as she gently reached her hand out in greeting. His hand gently wrapped around hers as the forest surrounding them seemed to disappear “Lovely to meet you, Prince Jeremiah, I am Rose, what brings you to the forest today?” His demeanor quickly changed into a somber look “My mother lies sick on her death bed.
Only this certain pollen from a specific flower here in the forest can save her and take the sickness away. Luckily, for me I have found the flower.” She gently bowed her head out of respect for his sick mother. “I am so sorry to hear that. Anything I can do to help?” His mind was going a thousand directions on how she could help him. Her generosity was unwavering; her eyes filled with concern. “What I would love is company as I travel back home. It is hours by horse.” She smiled as bright as the sun and curtsied in front of him “Consider me your travel companion, my prince.” A blush spread over his cheeks hearing her call him her prince “You really want to? I am not taking you away from anything?” She waved her hand “Oh no, just my aunts wanting to celebrate my birthday. They have done it since I was little and think they will be ok this year. Besides, I want to see this miracle with you.” She reached down and took his hand into hers. Little did the duo know but this adventure was more than just saving the life of Jeremiah’s mother, but also to save Rose from an impending doom.
He took her by the hand and led her to his horse. “Come on, Antonius show us the meaning of haste.” The horse took off like a shot out of a firing barrel as the reigns came over his body. A strong and mighty neigh echoed off the forest trees as the trio made their way through the packed forest. Rose wrapped her arms around the prince feeling the power of the horse underneath her. He felt her nerves and he gently took a hand and went over her hands that were around me “Don’t worry you aren’t going anywhere.” She smiled and laid her cheek against his back feeling safe and cared for. His body was aching as the minutes turned the hours and soon, they could see the castle coming up on the horizon “Hang on, rose we are almost there.” Her cheek still firmly planted on his back as she gently nodded to his comment. Within minutes they finally arrived at the castle “Good boy, Antonius. You served us well today. Take a rest.” He gently rubbed his hand over his mane before grabbing his satchel and pulling out the jar filled with the pollen.
Rose stood back seeing the dedication and how he cared for his mother. She watched as he filled the jar with water and carefully mixed the pollen in with the water until no pollen stayed. She could see his nerves and anxiety written on his face as he led her through the massive castle. She could hear their feet shuffling against the cobblestone halls until they reached a spacious room at the end of the hall with tall, glamorous double French doors. His arms carefully pushed the heavy doors and walked in on his mom sleeping. He watched as she moved in the bed, and he takes a deep breath seeing he was not too late. His hand gently rubbed her cheek “Mom, I am back. I found the cure.” Her eyes slowly opened and smiled “Oh my sweet boy.” He smiled and handed her the jar “Here mom drink up and feel better.” She slowly sat up and began to drink it before laying back down. He looked back at Rose feeling satisfied of the journey and how he could not have done it without her moral support. He knew she would be a valuable friend to the kingdom if she would decide to stay here.
Part of him wants to ask her to stay and be a part of this kingdom, but with her family hours away he does not expect a yes. He saw his mom gaining strength and would glance back at Rose every now and again. He was thrilled that his mom was better, but he needed to thank Rose for everything. As he was about to speak to Rose his mom spoke up “Jeremiah, I must speak to you about the future when you have a moment.” He turned his focus back to his mom and gave her a gentle acknowledgement before turning back his attention to Rose. He approached her, but as he did something unexplainable started to happen to her. She was slowly disappearing right from his view and as he stood there confused all she could say “Oh my sweet prince, I believe I did something I wasn’t supposed to do.” He had a look of despair as he said “Rose!! What is happening?” He spoke quickly as this paranormal activity was happening. “I must tell you that I care for you and forgive me for not being honest.
When I was just a baby, a sorcerer put a curse on me on my 16th birthday to slip into an eternal sleep which is today, and I ran with you to avoid the curse.” His chest was rising and falling hearing the revelation of Rose. “What can I do, Rose?” Right before she disappeared completely, she grabbed his cheeks and kissed him before whispering “Find me, my prince.” He watched as she disappeared, and his mom took a deep breath knowing one day he would see this in real time. “I am so confused.” His mom had enough strength now to get out of bed and put a hand on his back “Oh, Jeremiah. I am sorry you had to see that. She really cared for you.” He nods his head wishing he felt it as strong as she did. “Mom why aren’t you surprised by all of this?” He asked needing answers desperately. She then continued to tell him the tale and wrapped her arm around his shoulder. She leaned against him feeling the effects of not standing up in so long. “My boy, we live in a country where everything is destined to happen. Rose was destined to slip into an eternal sleep on her 16th birthday just by being in her country. She was also destined to wake up by her betrothed husband. However, since that is not a possibility then the established order is gone it can cause a chain reaction for others. Other princesses to be exact.” This was hard to fathom for Jeremiah.
How could he not know about this? “What should I do, mom?” She walked over to the bed and handed him all the princesses name and their destinies she kept for safe keeping. “Go around and make sure these things happen to each princess. Perhaps, keeping the established order with them will bring back, Rose. But be mindful that she will not have a destiny anymore. Her life is now for her to control.” She laid down and looked up at me “I am sorry my boy, I should have told you this years ago. But I did not’ want to burden you with the drama of all this. This was my burden to bear not yours.” He softly sighed and shook his head “that might be mom, but I could have helped you with this burden. Did you not trust me?” It was a valid question, but she arose from the bed and gently cupped his face “Yes, my son. I trust you more than you know. That is why I need to relinquish the kingdom to you. My time is fading as a queen, and I need you to correct my wrong and move this kingdom forward.” His heart raced as moving from a prince to a king was quite the leap, especially since he was yet to turn eighteen. “I will try my best, mom. It is scary but with you beside me I feel like we can make it happen. What should I do?” She moved her hands off his face and said, “Take the list I gave you and make sure everything happens according to plan.” As he picked up the paper, he looked at his mother and said, “I will try my best.”
Chapter 2- Aiyana’s Path
He took a deep breath as he read the first name on the list. Her name was Aiyana, the daughter of the Indian Chief, Chayton. They lived on the southern island of Montez and were a peaceful people. However, that is quickly ending as different colonies have shown interest in the beautiful island. It is quite the tourist destination, but the chief must put a stop to it for the safety of his people. He gently nods his head “Ok, good info but what is Aiyana’s destiny?” His eyes scrolled down on the paper until his eyes came across it. “Interesting, very interesting.” He mumbled softly before folding the paper and placing it in his jacket pocket. As I approached mother, I had a guilty face and she gently smiled “I know, you might have to break some rules in order to make all this happen, but I believe in you to not let it overtake you.” He nodded his head gently and wrapped his arms around her “All I need is your confidence.” She smiled and lifted his head and gently kissed his forehead “You better get going, my son. Time is of the essence.” He gently sighed “Yes, that is true, but before I leave. I keep having these dreams at night where I am in the clouds flying. It is the most liberating and carefree feeling I have ever felt.” She gently smiled and said,
“Maybe it is your destiny to soar where no one has ever gone.” She simply put and sent him on his way. He knew he needed to work fast since he had six destinies to save and not an abundance of time to carry out it. “Ok, Aiyana’s love will be coming by ship. So, sailing will be the quickest way.” He reasoned while urgently walking towards the bay with his mom’s words ringing inside his mind. She had that look in her eyes like she knew something, but he could not dwell on that. He jumped on the most advanced ship in his fleet packed with automated cannons, auto pilot which limited any workforce to navigate this ship. As he set sail he continued to read the paper about Aiyana. He came across a part where it read “Mission Goals.” He chuckled and shook his head before whispering, “Does these princesses non destinies have destinies now?” He sighed and continued to read “Originally, this ship headed straight to Montez, but now with that destiny changing they started to head east to Madalina which is not in our district. Our sources say these people are superstitious so use that if necessary. Lastly, if you get this ship to move to the north back towards Montez then that destiny should be back in line, good luck.”
He could not help but laugh and say, “I am in an endless loop of destinies.” He then veered off towards the east catching up with a ship headed right towards Madalina. He quickly programmed the ship’s auto pilot and hid himself on the ship. The men on the other ship watched as his ship passed by them with no one on board. The hair on their neck stood up straight, their breath staggering, and shouting “It’s a ghost ship, let’s get out of here.” Jeremiah laughed at the commotion on the other ship and decided to add on to it. He smirked and got on the ship’s PA system, complete with a voice modulator “This island is under my protection. Leave now!” One crew member on the other ship shaking said “Oh… Yes…. You and what army?” The other crew members with wide eyes looked at him. Jeremiah even had to admit that was stupid to say. His anger boiled over when he looked down at his hands that started to turn claws, his arms turning to long wings, soon everything that made Jeremiah human was gone and replaced by a massive dragon flying in the sky. He flew above them and gave them a ferocious roar that shook the island, and made trees violently blow. The captain shook in his boots before shouting “To Montez we go.”
Jeremiah cooled off seeing the ship leaving and headed towards Montez. As the ship disappeared, he retreated to the middle of the ocean confused on his transformation, but it was at that point his mom’s words echoed through his mind “Maybe it is your destiny to soar where no one has ever gone.” He contently growled and took off to the skies and started living those dreams he has been dreaming lately. As he magnificently soared in the air, he could see a young woman on top of a high cliff with a waterfall cascading down to the ocean below. She made eye contact with him as he landed on top of the cliff, and she placed her hand on his cheek showing no fear with a look of gratitude. He softly groaned as she softly whispered “Well done, Prince Jeremiah. You saved my destiny.” With the revelation his dragon form left, and he stood confused “H. How did you know it was me?” She smiled and stood back “Because I know your mother’s dragon form.” Jeremiah stood there stunned but he does not show it. A slight smile went across his face and said “Yes of course, forgive me, it has been a trying day. Until next time Aiyana.” She watched as he became a dragon once again and flew off.
Chapter 3- Brooklyn’s Path
As Jeremiah soared in the heights of the clouds is search of his next destiny to save. He was looking forward to this island just because it was his favorite. It was the metropolis suburb of the kingdom. It was luxurious and he wanted this to be his home, but his mom was sentimental towards the mainland, so his mind was made up for him. As he landed, he returned to his human form and began to read Princess Brooklyn’s path. As he read it a pang of sadness went over him reading what she was going through, and he began to contemplate on how to save her path. It just began to rain on the island and the usual chipper, hustle, and bustle of the town seemed to be at a standstill as he made his way towards the kingdom's cemetery. There was an eerie feel surrounding him as he walked towards a grave and saw Brooklyn on her knees beside it. He took slow steps not wanting to alarm her and he put a comforting hand on her shoulder “Hey, Brooklyn. I came as soon as I heard.” She gently reached up and wiped her eyes before she stood up and at once hugged him. “It’s ok I’m here.” He whispered into her ear as she softly sobbed. “Why do I even bother with love?” She asked between the sobs “Because one day your true love will come.”
She shook her head “There is no hope for me. I might as well just resign as a princess and go be with the villagers. Everyone I fall in love with leaves me one way or another.” He sighed and shook his head “This is much bigger than either of us, Brooklyn. Another reason I came to you is because I have lost someone that I care for deeply because she did not let fate take her where she needed to go.” She pulled away from his embrace and looked at him. “A princess went rouge?” He nodded and hung his head “Yes. Rose went rogue because she fell in love with me and with time keep passing me bye the more, I realize that I am falling for her as well. I need your help, Brooklyn.” She softly smiled at him and said, “What can I do?” His eyes lifted to her castle “You are expecting a visitor at the castle I suggest you do not miss him. I know Andre’s death is going to be tough on you and I expect it, but I know it will get easier.” She smiled and did not say another word to him and went on her way to the castle as he suggested. Being invested in this Jeremiah followed her at a distance wondering what was going to happen next.
As she walked closer to the castle she saw someone that she recognized. She began to run, and so did he until they embraced each other. They both held each other until she pulled back and slapped him “Franco!!! Why did you leave me?” He gasped from the sudden slap, but he kept his composure and looked down “Forgive me, Brooklyn. I am terribly sorry for not explaining why I had to leave.” She folded her arms “No better time than now, Franco.” He nodded his head and said “Someone in the kingdom was after me. He did not like that I was not a prince in love with a princess.” Her mouth dropped and so did Jeremiah’s as he listened to the startling announcement. “Who would do such a thing, Franco?” He took a deep breath and dropped an even bigger bombshell “Prince Andre” Tears welled up in her eyes and was in a world of disbelief “Andre? The man I fell in love with? The man we just buried?” She said in a state of shock and dismay. Franco felt his heart sink in his stomach hearing this. His head hung as the news just gets worse. “Yes, Brooklyn. I am sorry I should have said something sooner.” She took a deep breath and ran her hands through her blonde hair. “At the end, the truth comes out either way.”
She placed a finger under Franco’s chin and lifted it “The important thing is we are back together and that is all that matters to me, Franco.” He gently smiled and said “Same goes for me, Brooklyn. I love you.” She smiled and hugged him “I love you too and here I was about to give up on love.” He smiled against her lips “I will never give up on love as long as i am with you.” Jeremiah listened to everything intently and Rose came into his mind, and he stepped away from his hiding spot and let the couple have their beautiful moment together. A deep feeling came over Jeremiah at that moment and all he can think about is Rose. The kiss echoing through his mind and how he longed to see Rose. It was at that time he had a determination to save the remaining destinies and save Rose. He was intoxicated by her memory, but he just needed Rose when he thought he did not need her. He felt tears come down his face as he realized he truly did care for Rose. “I am coming, Rose. It does not matter how long it takes me to get to you. I will not stop until you are in my arms again.” He whispered softly to himself as a silent prayer before he walked away from the scene and escaped to the clouds as a more determined dragon not knowing what obstacle awaits his next destiny.
Chapter 4- Liliana’s Path
News of what was happening on the islands began to spread like wildfire and panic began to course through him knowing news would eventually reach his ex girlfriend, Liliana who never got over him when his mom forced her to leave their island and rejoin her family on the smallest island in the kingdom called Catalonia. As fate would have it, Liliana was the first to receive word of Jeremiah’s impending circumstance and thinks this is her chance to make sure that she ruins his plan to be reunited with Rose. With all the backstabbing that happened on Brooklyn’s Island, Jeremiah hopes for a smoother plan this go around. He flew high above the castle in which Liliana’s family was busy with their lives making sure the kingdom runs up to speed, except for Liliana who was expecting Jeremiah to walk right up to her door. If only she knew that the Jeremiah, she once loved was more than just a mere mortal. As he landed at the castle entrance he changed back to his human form and knocked on the castle door. Liliana smirked from ear to ear knowing it had to be him and swung the huge French doors open.
“Well, well, well. Jeremiah as I live and breathe. You got yourself in quite the predicament now, don’t you?” Jeremiah stood by and shook his head in disbelief “You really think that Rose truly cares for you stronger than I do?” He nodded and continued to give her the silent treatment.
She rolled her eyes as she began to get annoyed with the silent treatment. He smirked and then said “Now that i have your attention let me be perfectly clear with you. If you decide to not accept your destiny to find your true love in the coming day, then you will have top deal with someone else who is far more powerful than me.” She laughed him to scorn and said, “Oh who just might be more powerful than you?” He smirked and his eyes glowed a dark blue and a dark blue smoke enveloped his entire body blinding her temporarily before a dragon stood before her.
She uncovered her eyes and saw Jeremiah as a dragon before she gasped and covered her mouth. “How is this for powerful, Liliana?” She dropped her head and backed up from him fearing her life at this point. He saw the fear in her eyes and his eyes turned a dark purple out of sadness and turned back to his human form. “I am sorry, I am under a lot of pressure to make sure that the land stays the same and not turn into a scattered mess. Rose is amazing and i care for her deeply, but this is my home, Liliana and i will do anything to save it.” She took a deep breath when he returned to his human form. Her smirk and carefree attitude were gone, and she quietly said “I do not even know you anymore. You have my word that i will accept my destiny but as for us we are completely done. I will not make anymore advances at you.” He sighed out and spoke
“Thanks for your permission, but we have been done for years in my eyes. I know you never got over me and I am trying to get you to realize that our ship has sailed. Do not get hung up on me, Liliana.” It was a hard lesson to learn for Liliana, and she really could not blame him for being so hard on her since she had been relentless in her endeavors after he broke things off with her. As he looked back on their romance all he could think about was how she needed to be by his side all the time. She did not trust him and that ended the relationship. Tears filled his eyes, and she hung her head almost having a six sense of what he was thinking about. “I am sorry, Jeremiah. I ruined any chance to be with you, not only that I hurt my friend, but I hurt me soon to be king.”
He wiped his eyes hearing her heart felt apology, the hurt very much written on his face still, but a glimmer of joy in his eyes. He gave her a soft smile but does not say a word to her before he turned back into a dragon. As he flew off, Liliana knew that he forgave her, the look that he gave her was all the confirmation she needed and now a fresh start for her was on the horizon and she was not going to let this opportunity pass her up. As Jeremiah soared to the highest of heights, he recalled all the times with Liliana. All the great times, all the troubled times came flooding back to his memory like a wave crashing onto the beach shore. As the memories roll in his mind he reasoned to make better memories with Rose.
Yet, there was one memory of Liliana that he refused to recall until it slipped back into his memory. What he thought was true love was nothing more than a huge setup between Liliana and her family. She had masquerade as a common villager that was new to the kingdom. She had changed her looks, personality, every little thing that he would recognize as Liliana. Once he figured the truth, he purposed not to forgive her for until now. If he can forgive Rose for her secrecy, then he would be a hypocrite to not forgive Liliana as well. Jeremiah felt so close to carrying out his goal to see Rose. Three of the five destinies have been saved to save Rose from her external banishment from the kingdom. All is left is to save Calla and Evita’s destinies, but the more the journey progresses, the more he realizes how much he is changing. With the concern going through he decides to head back home to talk with his mother.
Chapter 5- A Choice
The stalky feet of Jeremiah’s dragon form planted on the castle’s rooftop. A low, breathy growl escaped his lips before turning back to his human form. To say he was exhausted would be an understatement as he walked inside his mother’s room that led straight to the balcony. His hand went across the cobblestone walls of her room when he heard his mother’s angelic voice ring through the rafters.” My darling boy, what is troubling you?” A disgruntled sigh escaped his lips before he flopped down on the blue armchair beside his mother’s bed. “This journey has been productive, but i feel like I am changing.” Her demeanor changed seeing his expression and the seriousness of his tone.
Her emerald, green eyes locked eyes with him as his eyes casted to the bedroom floor. “I am falling in love with Rose, mother. I miss her and i am willing to do about anything to make it happen and that scares me. I feel like i could turn into someone that I do not like.” She smiled gently and wrapped her arms around him and lightly traced small circles on his back. “Let me guess you find yourself being pulled to a dark place with light trying to fight it off?” His eyes went down to the ground and slowly nodded his head. That was his sentiments exactly and he figures she has faced something similar in her life. “When i was around your age, my mother sent me on a quest to master my dragon skills.” He listened intently to what his mother was saying hoping her experience would shed some light on what he was dealing with.
“I felt the same thing you are facing right now, Jeremiah and i am not going to sugarcoat it, but it was tough. I had to make the decision to harness the beast inside of me and make it something great and not evil or give up my power all together.” The news of this was a heavy blow to Jeremiah as if someone reared back and hit him hard in the gut. “Sounds like it’s a choice i will have to make as well.” She nodded her head and cupped his cheeks “I know you will make a wise choice, my son.” Tears fell from his eyes, and she quickly wiped them away “I know you are scared but let your heart and Rose guide you.” He took a few deep breaths and began to think of Rose and how much she means to him now.
Jeremiah has always believed the expression ‘You never appreciate something or someone until it’s gone’ full-heartedly but believing it and living are two different things. After minutes of awkward silences between him and his mother, Jeremiah finally made his decision. “What kind of man or leader would I be if I did not give the country the best I can be. I am learning to be grateful for what life has thrown my way and I might as well run with me being a dragon as well as king.” He took a deep breath and shook his head trying to come to terms with the newness of this ability.
Jeremiah once again turned into a dragon and soared into the heights. His massive wings gently grazing across the trees as he climbed until he rested upon the highest mountain peak of the kingdom. He grunted heavily as his lungs filled with air after his long accession. This was more than just a mere accent to the mountain peaks. This was a symbol of Jeremiah taking his rightful spot as the next king of the land. With a strong, mighty growl his voice rang through the woods as his roar moved trees with a might force while he let his presence known to all the surrounding islands. Motivation was at his highest and he was not wanting this opportunity to go to waste. As he soared above the main island, he could hear villagers chant “To the king.” They knew exactly what was about to happen as he landed in front of the castles entrance.
As he turned back into a man he was approached by his mother and a member of the island parliament. His mother voiced up first and asked, “Are you ready my son?” A cunning, yet passionate smile spread across his face “I am now. I am ready to take my next step and lead our kingdom into the next age.” With his acknowledgment of wanting to take over as king of the land got parliament and the queen quick to prepare a coronation for the prince. “The decision is yours, Prince Jeremiah. We can have a coronation as early as next week if you so choose.” Chadwick Gabriel, one of the many members of parliament announced to him. With a raise of Jeremiah’s eyebrow and a gentle shake of his head he proclaimed “Give me some time, Sir Chadwick. I want nothing more than to have Rose at this ceremony.
Once I can rescue her then let us work out the details for that.” Chadwick gave him a soft smile and took him at his word before leaving Jeremiah alone with the Queen. “I am incredibly proud of you, my son. You have faced adversity the last few days and you have overcome these challenges that life and I have thrown at you. You are going to going to be a wonderful king and Rose will be a wise Queen.” Excitement filled Jeremiah’s body that this journey was so close to being carried out. He missed Rose with something fierce and all he needs to do now is save the last two destinies. “Thanks, mother. I am ready to correct our wrongs, but first i believe i want to settle down for the night.” Jeremiah went his way from the steps of the castle and into his chambers.
As he made his way through the corridors he imagined Rose by his side, holding his hand, talking with him. As he passed all the kings and queens that have come before him, he is reminded of his faith in God and how important he is to him and how this kingdom runs solely on faith. “Father, help me be the king that i need to be for my people. I cannot do this without you, nor could I try to try this without you.” He prayed silently as he entered his bed and tried to relax his mind after the long day. Jeremiah quickly dozed off to sleep and dreamed of Rose. He never thought that he could love her this much just by a few interactions with Rose. Yes, they were both incredibly young but just like the kings and queens that came before him, they had a reputation to upheld and to keep this proud heritage ongoing.
This dream of Jeremiah was never ending, at least he wanted it to be never ending, but as morning broke the sun shined in his window awakening him from his peaceful sleep. He felt refreshed and ready to conquer the last two destinies. So far, the journey has been quite simple but the princesses to come were a tougher challenge. Calla was a lone wolf and would be a tough egg to crack to fall in love with a prince. Evita was the drama princess and the most popular one at that. To be completely honest, Jeremiah used to have the biggest crush on Evita before Liliana came along. Isn’t that life? How one decision can lead to another, but it was all for the better since Rose was in his life. However, there is no telling what will happen when he sees his crush again.
Today was going to be a big day. Jeremiah plans to get these last two destinies saved today which would be a miraculous feat considering the gravity of the situation and the woman he is trying to save were not exactly easy pickings like the others. However, when there is a will there is a way and thankfully, Jeremiah had a good plan for both. He was nervous and had all sorts of emotions coursing through him at this time.
Chapter 6- Calla’s Path
Right as Jeremiah was about to leave his chambers his mom walked in “Good Morning, sunshine. Early start for you, huh?” He sleepily wiped his eyes still trying to wake himself up “Yes, I would like to save the two remaining destinies today if possible. My work is cutout for me because it is Calla.” His mom nervously laughed seeing his predicament “Oh yes, she is a tough nut to crack. However, I do know a way to make it easier for you.” His eyes heightened and a smile went across his face. “Do tell?” She stepped closer “I do know she has a special place for one of the knights that are within the kingdom. If she gives you any trouble just mention Sir Chase and she should straighten out her attitude.” He smirked as he thought of a plan “I have an even better idea.” She laughed at his smirk and shook her head “Ok, I don’t even want to know what is going on in that bead of yours.” He laughed and said, “Nothing too crazy, you just gave me an idea.” With Jeremiah makes his flight towards Calla.
This feeling of flying will never get old to him. Being a dragon has been a life changing experience for Jeremiah and deep down he wished that he knew sooner. As he landed his feet he was at once greeted by Calla who was holding a shield in one hand and a spear in the other. A cunning smirk went across his face before he changed into his human form “Expecting a war, Calla?” She took a deep breath seeing it was Jeremiah. “Whoa!! Look at you, Jeremiah. You are finally a dragon like your mom. I am sorry I honestly thought you were a rouge dragon.” He laughs and shakes his head “Nope just dropping in to make sure you are behaving yourself.” She rolled her eyes “How can I not be when i am all by myself?” He gave her a look of disbelief “Because I know what you are capable of.” She laughed but knew that this was not a typical visit from the soon to be King. “Fair enough, your majesty. So, tell me, what is the true reason you are here? You know you cannot pull a wool over my eyes. I have a six sense when it comes to this.”
He rubbed his neck and sighed out “I am surprised that you have not heard anything happening within the kingdom, but Rose messed up her destiny and ever since that happened every single princess has had a new path that could take. So, concisely I have been working hard to make sure every destiny stays in place.” She saw his face lighting up talking about Rose, but she quickly placed it back on her “And let me guess you are here to make sure that I stay on the straight and narrow?” He knew she was catching on but before she could weasel her way out of her own destiny Sir Chase shows up with them. “More or less, yes.” Calla instantly smiled from ear to ear seeing Chase shows up. “Oh, umm hello, Sir Chase. What do I umm show this surprise?” She nervously asked as Jeremiah stepped aside to let this destiny happen “Rumor has it that you are looking for a protective knight by your side.” She blushed gently “Yes, that is true. I still have a challenging time believing I am wanting this.” He smiled and said, “That makes two of us.”
She laughed “Well, since you are the only one who has shown any interest in the position then it is all yours. Hopefully, I will not run you off.” He smiled and took her hand into his hand “I don’t think that is possible.” she blushed when he grabbed her hand but had a smile that could not be erased. Seeing the scene made tears fall from Jeremiah’s face. He missed Rose so much and seeing couples happen right in front of him was not helping him. He quickly wiped his eyes, but Calla saw him tying to hide it. She excused herself from Chase and placed a hand on his shoulder “Do not worry, Jeremiah. You are so close to getting Rose back. Just stay the course and she will be by your side.” He took a deep breath “I know, Calla. Something else is bothering me. I have kept this a secret for so long and I cannot even put it into words for you.” She put a reassuring hand on his shoulder “Just take a deep breath and calm your nerves. Do not worry I will not judge you.” This was something that even his mother did not know, and it could change this journey all together.
Even Calla was intrigued where all of this was going but nothing could prepare her what was about to come out of his mouth. “Calla, I do not have a destiny. I do not know if it has to do with me and being the head leader, but it does bother me.” Jeremiah admitted. Calla, smiled and placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder before stating “I have no proof of this, so do not crucify the messenger.” He watched her eyes looking for any hesitation before Calla continued saying “To a degree you are correct that being the head leader has its advantages and i believe that it makes you exempt from the destiny while the others suffer with a destiny.” He felt like that was not right and he folded his arms across his chest “I truly do not like that, but I suppose that is how life goes sometimes.” She softly nodded understanding what he was going through. “You do not have to face it alone, Chase. We are all here for you no matter what.” He gently nodded and rubbed his foot across the ground. “Thank you, Calla. I do not know what I would do without all you princesses. All of you make my job so much easier.”
All Calla could do is smile at him and respond by saying “And you have helped me to not be to myself as much, your majesty. You brought my true love to me, and I am forever grateful that you saw past my stubbornness to be alone and turned it against me. I truly hope you find your successful conclusion with Rose. Now time is of the essence to go finish your journey and save the last destiny.” Calla responded confidently knowing his adventure was ending, but for unfounded reason she had a suspicious feeling despite being so confident. “To be frank, my lady. It is my job to make sure that the kingdom runs sufficiently, but I am also glad that you appreciate me. Once I become king there will be some changes, but good changes. All of us will be a team and no one will be lower than the other. Now if you will excuse me, I have a kingdom to save.” He announced before morphing into a dragon and flying to Evita’s Island.
Chapter 7- Evita’s Path
Jeremiah was thanking the Lord for letting Calla be simpler than he expected. He was dreading it, but his mom came in huge by letting him know about her crush on Sir Chase. However, he had no backup when it came to Evita. She had the IT factor of all the princesses. Bright blue eyes, classy, loyal, fair to look upon, funny, and always fun to be around. It was no wonder that Jeremiah crushed on her for so long. This was going to be a tough destiny to crack, however once he arrived and started to read what her destiny was supposed to be his heart sank as he read “With the power vested in me as the controller of destinies, I hereby declare that Evita has the destiny of marrying Jeremiah of our fair kingdom.” He nearly dropped the letter out of his hand as tears filled his eyes, and they fell from his face. He morphed back into a dragon and soared into the air and cried out a sad, sorrowful cry. The cry so detrimental that it alerted everyone through the entire kingdom.
All this effort to save Rose and his destiny was sealed with one quick sentence on the last princess destiny. As he landed back on land he was met by Evita who saw his tears and knew why he was sad. His dragon breath was labored as he looked at her. Jeremiah’s fame went across all the land on what he was doing for Rose and how his love was insurmountable. Evita only realized her destiny that day and has been feeling guilt all day long. Her hand went up to his scales and soon his cheek “I am so sorry, your majesty. If i would have known my destiny sooner i could have warned you.” He morphed back into human and wrapped his arms around her. “I do not blame you, Evita. I would have saved my own time by looking at each destiny and not one at a time.” She pulled away from his embrace and grabbed his hands “What would you have done if you did?” He sighed and wiped his eyes “I would not have gotten attached to Rose or fallen in love with her.”
Jeremiah was at a loss for words; he dealt like he failed Rose and Evita with this journey. No longer was this a race to recover a lost love but, to a race to recover a missing princess. It truly hurts that he has no future with Rose, at least that is what he thought. Evita grabbed his hand and whispered “it is our destiny, Jeremiah. This must happen or we would face the same fate as her.” You are now tied in with my fate and I wish I had another way for you to be with Rose.” His eyes widened and he asked “Evita, I might have found a way. This land that Rose was sent to does anyone know what it is like?” Her eyes light up and she nodded “Yes, my father is the only person who rejected his destiny and was saved by my mother. He has always told me that the land was beautiful and far more spacious than all our islands put together. He also said that I had free will and can make my own choices as punishment for going against the laws. Which looking back sounds silly.” His eyes grew larger in excitement and leaned in her ear and whispered something to where she can only say “That is brilliant. Go off to your kingdom and I will get everyone assembled there.”
He smirked and said “I have a better idea. Let me morph into a dragon and ride on my back so you can announce a nationwide emergency meeting.” He instantly morphed into a dragon, and she carefully hopped on his back and held on to him tightly. His enormous wings began to flap and soon they were up in the air. This was an incredible feeling for Evita feeling the breeze against her face and the freedom she felt soaring in the clouds. She reached to her hip and grabbed her ox-horn. She blew it as loud as she could to announce the meeting back on the main island. Jeremiah started to take in the sights of the island, all the wonderful mountain peaks kissed with snow, the forests with all its tall, mammoth trees, the ocean side with its peaceful waves. In his mind he wonders how this other land was more beautiful than this as he landed by his castle.
As he morphed back into human form a flock of people came rushing after hearing the announcement call. “Good afternoon, everyone. Please follow me and I will explain.” He walked with haste as the entire country ushered inside the castle and into a huge auditorium. He stood behind a podium and cleared his throat to grab everyone’s attention. “As many of you know, last week we had quite the situation with Princess Rose going rouge on her destiny and now she is trapped in a land that is far from here.” He watched as a few villagers gave sly looks and many shook her head before he continued, “My journey has given me the opportunity to visit each island of our lovely home here and I have also learned that why are we letting destinies control who we are as people?” The subject quickly changed on a dime and soon the crowd sat on the edge of their seats in the auditorium and murmuring amongst themselves. Some soon began to wonder where the prince was going with this. “I have it on good authority that this land that Rose is at is bigger than this land we have now where we all can have free will and not be forced to go by our destinies.”
The villagers got even more curious about what he was saying. He was making a lot of sense, but the big question for all of them was how can they get to this land with most of their destinies already aligned? As he was about to continue his mother came beside his side and whispered, “Whatever you decide for this nation then I trust you full heartedly.” She admitted to him before he was able to continue. “I must do some research on how to make this as safe as possible. So, if you want to follow me to the unknown then give me a few hours to find some answers on how we can get over there safely. If you would like to meet me back here at 7 PM I should have answers for everyone. You are dismissed.” Evita approached him at once after everyone left and asked “Are you sure about this, Jeremiah? I am all for it, but I want to make sure you are ok with it as well. I mean marrying each other would not be the worst thing, would it?” That question cut through him like a knife and to be honest with himself, he did not see it coming.
Chapter 7- Jeremiah’s Choice
He took a deep breath to relax his nerves and thought of what to say to the startling question. “Evita, I care about you, I have always cared for you. I always imagined us being together just because I believed we would be great together and one day rule the country together. But the moment I heard Rose singing in the woods it felt like everything I was facing disappeared. Deep down we fell in love that day and how can I say no to this desire that I have for her? Unless you think otherwise?” He had a lot of doubt in his depths about everything. His true love was at the brink of being found but his destiny is with Evita according to the land. She saw the hesitance in his eyes and soon does the unthinkable and gently kissed him on the lips. His eyes widened as she kissed him, and he honestly did not know what to think until after a few seconds she pulled back and asked him “Now tell me…How did it feel?” His eyes looked down after the shock wore off.
“It was um very nice, but.” he hung his head not wanting to disappoint her. She smiled and finished the sentence “But nothing like when Rose kissed you?” His eyes grew in surprise “Great, not even a kiss in the woods can go unnoticed.” She laughed and shook her head “The main thing, Jeremiah is you know where your heart lies so go after her and go get your queen.” He nodded his head and brushed his fingers through his hair “Yes, I suppose you are correct this time.” She laughed and said “Try all the time, my prince. Now quit wasting time and let us see about this new land.” Jeremiah and Evita walked off to the library of the castle. Surely, the history books will store some kind of information on this secretive land. Once they arrived at the library they began to search the online database for any information. “Let’s start with a search of refusing destinies.” He whispered to himself as he typed feverishly on the computer. Several results came up, but the top results are what drew them in. He clicked on it and soon the book dropped down in front of them.
The technology would be something he missed about the island, but deep down he knew this was the best for the kingdom and he just prays that this book does not give him more sad news. As they turned through the pages, they found a chapter solely based on how to get to this land and what it even looks like. They glanced over the pictures in the book and found its beauty extravagant to say the least, but as thy read through it an important notice appeared with bright and bold letters on it saying “As you can tell from the pictures there is a lot of space in this island, however it is not recommended that entire countries attempt to come here, because it is only meant to handle a few people at a time. An attempt to do so could cause a rift in between the land and the island destroying both. You have been warned.” Jeremiah covered his eyes after hitting another roadblock.” Hey none of that let us keep reading it and find some hope.” Evita said while he stood up and got away from the book. He could not read anymore with all the emotions pouring through him.
Evita could tell he needed a break, and she took over the reading, but as she read more the more, she came to realize that there was no hope to the situation. He was at a breaking point and when she gently tapped his shoulder and with a somber tone he said, “They are forcing us to get married aren’t they?” Her grip tightened on his shoulder “I am sorry, Jeremiah. It is either we get married and save Rose from her prison or we both deny our destinies and we join Rose leaving our country leaderless and missing two princesses. You see the two ways to Rose require risks that puts our people in a predicament.” After all this time to save Rose so he can be with her it seems that the only thing he can depend on is faith. “Then I suppose marriage is the only way we can keep the kingdom together and to save Rose.” She put her hand on his cheek “I know that this is hard, but I will be a good wife to you and a good queen to our people.” He nodded his head “I know you will be, Evita.”
He took a deep breath, grabbed her hand, and led her back to the auditorium with his head hung low feeling defeated that he cannot deliver on his desire for the people to have a free will. As they entered the auditorium once again, he cleared his throat and gripped her hand tightly “I am sorry to announce that moving into this land is an impossibility. There is a delicate threshold between here and there. Any attempt to have more than just a few people enter the land would cause a rift between our land and this land potentially destroying both lands. So, for the safety of our people and rose we must refrain in doing this. As of right now, Evita has the destiny of marrying me and to get Rose back into the land this must happen. With, next week there will be a royal wedding to join us together.” He announced to everyone with tears piercing his eyes. Evita saw the tears and took over by saying “If you have any questions then feel free and ask me.” After that people came up to her. “Get out of here, Jeremiah. I will come check on you soon.”
He smiled through the tears and left the auditorium with hope in his eyes. He needed to be alone for a moment and Evita provided it for him. As he entered his chambers he went to his knees and began to pray “Father, you do all things well, but Father I need a miracle right now. You know where my heart lies and Evita is amazing, but Father you know who is best for me. Lord, let your will be done, in Jesus' name amen.” He wiped his eyes and stood to his feet knowing his future was in the hands of his Savior. He has saved his mother, and Jeremiah knew that he could save him from this. After seconds of silence, he received a knock on his door, and he called out “Come in.” He sniffled quietly as Evita walked inside. He walked over to her with his feet slightly dragging on the soft carpet “Hang in there, darling.” She said while opening her arms to him. “I am trying to do that, Evita.” He leaned in and went into her embrace. “No matter what happens next week, just know I care about you.” He nodded his head and just enjoyed being in her presence.
Chapter 8- Wedding Day
For the last week, Jeremiah kept himself busy with planning the wedding and seeing Evita as much as possible. She has become a guiding light to this dark time. He stood at the altar with the minister awaiting for the bride to walk down the aisle. This was going to be his life from here on out but he is committed to what he has to do to save a princess of his kingdom and settle down with this unique yet strange union with Evita. Music began to play and watched Evita walking down the aisle. She did look beautiful, but he could not help to imagine Rose walking down the aisle. As Evita approached him, he reached out his hands towards her as they locked eyes, they both smiled at each other “You look beautiful, Evita.” She smiled and kissed his cheek “Thank you, darling and thank you for trying.” She said before the minister started the ceremony “I know this isn’t the typical wedding that many are used to seeing, however we are gathered here today to join this prince and princess in holy matrimony.”
Jeremiah had purposed in his heart that this needed to happen, and his faith would see him through it. The minister was to continue the ceremony when a bright light entered the sanctuary making everyone cover their eyes. Once the light toned down a young lady stood between Jeremiah and Evita with her back turned towards the couple and the congregation. She turned to the right and looked at Jeremiah and he covered his mouth seeing who it was. She smiled at him and said “Hello, my prince. Did you miss me?” She turned fully towards the crowd and saw that it was Rose. “I I do not understand? How are you here?” Jeremiah asked in confusion. She touched his cheeks and whispered “You prayed for a miracle and here I am. I also found the owner of that land and stroke a deal with him.” His eyes widened and got curious “Oh really? What kind of deal?” She smiled and started her tale. “Well, my prince. Once I reached the land, I began searching it for clues and any exit that I could find. The owner of the land saw my curiosity and my desire to get back to you and so she exchanged my freedom to suppress her loneliness in that land if it pleases you?”
He did not care about his pleasure. He was just thrilled that she was there now, but the question was will him and Evita must continue with their destinies. “It pleases me, Rose, but how can I help with her loneliness?” She smiled and grabbed his hand “She has been in that land for years having all the free will she could imagine, at first she loved it having different people ushering in and out but I am afraid she is just ready to end all destinies and came join us here on the island.” His eyes widened in surprise at the announcement. “Consider it done. Only problem is how do we end destinies all together? I have wrought my fingers to the bone trying ways to end destinies here for good but with no avail.” She smiled slyly “Well lucky for you my handsome prince, I have that answer. Fortunately for you the only person in the kingdom that can reject a destiny and not go to the land is the head leader of a country which would be you.”
“Well color me intrigued.” He excitedly said before Rose continued “Only a leader of a kingdom can save her. Once you reject your destiny then we will all have free will on the island. So, my question for you my prince is are you ready to end this?” He took a deep breath and looked at Evita wanting her consent before agreeing to this.” Evita smiled and said “What are you waiting for? Save the guardian and marry Rose.” He hugged Evita before looking at Rose “As the prince soon to be king of this land, I hereby declare my rejection of my destiny to marry Evita.” As soon the words left his lips a bright light surrounded the kingdom for several seconds before dying down. While everyone got their eyes adjusted from the bright light, Jeremiah saw a young girl no older than him standing beside Evita. “Are you the guardian?” She looked up seeing the prince standing before him with a huge congregation behind him. “Yes, my name is Alecia, your majesty. Thank you, for getting me out of that land.” She curtsied to him, and he gracefully bowed to her “You are most welcome, Alecia.”
“This is a lovely kingdom. I am pleased to call this my home.” She told him before he responded “Thank you for everything and giving us the free will we have been searching for. Make yourself at home while i get reacquainted with Rose.” He gently grabbed her hand and led Rose outside away from the eyes of the congregation. As soon as they were outside, he wrapped her arms around her and softly cried on her shoulder. “I missed you so much, Rose.” She wrapped her arms around him “I missed you too my prince.” She ran her hand through his hair, and he let out all his emotion “You have been on my heart ever since you left. With each day I fell increasingly in love with you, Rose and I never gave up on us.” Her smile was as bright as the sun that was beaming down on them. “I just knew that I made an impact with you, darling. I fell in love with you when I saw how much you were willing to do to save your mother and that is why I broke my destiny so I could once again find you.”
He felt an overwhelming joy flood into his soul. He watched as Rose leaned towards him and softly kissed him. Once again, their lips touch and felt the chemistry between them. This was special to both of them just because all their hard work had finally paid off and they are enjoying each other with no qualms or difficulties. They broke away from the kiss and she said, “Looks like people came for the wedding today.” He nodded his head while gazing inside “Yes, but I feel like a change of brides needs to happen” Her eyes widened “You mean?” She commented before he dropped down to one knee and pulled out a ring that he forged himself while on his journey. “Rose, I cannot think of anyone that I would rather marry than you. With the small journey that we have been on and how I feel towards you I would be off my rocker if I did not propose to you. Will you marry me?” She smiled before taking her hands caressing his cheeks “Off your rocker, huh?” He laughed and nodded “Of course, I will marry you my prince or should I say my king?” He chuckled again “It does not matter to me. We should let the minister know before everyone leaves.” She grabbed his hand, and they rushed back inside the auditorium.
Epilogue
Throughout this journey they had bumps, detours, and times where everything felt hopeless. However, that just created resiliency between the married couple now. What came from a simple attempt to save his mother’s life turned into something far greater. He saved his kingdom, a woman that he deeply loved, and he saved himself at the end of it all. Being at the altar with her now in her own wedding gown that his mother designed everything was well worth the wait to have. As they say, anything worth having is worth the fight over. Despite being older teenagers, Jeremiah and Rose ran the kingdom with wisdom, fairness, and integrity. They raised one son and two daughters throughout their tenure as king and queen until their son was of age. But never did they forget this journey on how they fell in love.
