Quintessence: Poems and Musings

All Rights Reserved ©

Summary

Quintessence is often thought of as "the fifth element" in alchemy. It's the building block of the heavens, and the spark that lives within all of us. This is a collection of poems as I chase my spark, with some fun facts about alchemy along the way.

Sehnsucht

Sehnsucht

What is this feeling, with bitter tastes

A homesickness of my lost fates

How to name this pain that dreams escape

A study of passions I cannot sate

Could this wanderlust unburden the soul

from heavy lead to pure sweet gold

What transformations, what could I be

if not restrained by what I see

How to obscure this overcast,

Shadows and memories of times long past,

To long for truth, not recoil in fear

To cut through fog like silvered spear

I follow Mercury, made thrice great

Through dreams, asleep, yet still awake

I crave, I yearn, I search for meaning

The reasons why my heart keeps beating

S.F. Penny: I loved the slow build and even though there was no real fight that threatened their relationship, it was actually a refreshing break from other stories.
