Chapter 1 Best Friends
I knew it! I knew it, I knew it, I knew it!
I can't stop giggling to myself. I'm so super happy right now! I would be doing a happy dance right now if my friends wouldn't think I was a psycho or something! But then again, they know me!
Trey finally confessed to Calliope that he loves her, and now he's even claimed her! That was faster than I expected, but well... he's been in love with her for years. I've seen him struggle with his emotions. He's done a decent job at hiding them... Until the last few weeks. And then when Amir showed up, it was pretty much nonexistent. He couldn't seem to stop touching her, which was funny! He really should'a just told her.
Actually, he told me not to tell her. About a year ago, I saw the way he was looking at her and I teased him about it. He was so embarrassed about being caught, I told him I was gonna tell Cal, and he freaked out! It really was hilarious. Of course I wouldn't really do that to my brother, but I wanted him to tell her then... He said he would tell her when he was ready... It took him a freaking year! I should've just told her!
And despite what Cal thinks, I could totally tell she was in love with him, even if she didn't say anything to me... I wish she had! I could've told her everything... and then pissed off my brother, which might have been worth it! Every time she looked at him she got all dreamy eyed and giggly. She was anything but subtle! But it was cute, so I let her think I didn't have a clue.
And now, my best friend is going to be my sister-in-law! We are going to have a lot to get ready for the ceremony. I'm going to go all out for this thing to make her feel welcomed to our family... And maybe to mess with my brother for being an idiot!
Mom and Dad are ecstatic! So is Hestia. I wish John was still around, but he died a long time ago... I don't remember all the details, but he was sent out on a mission and he never returned. I'm sure he'd be proud of his daughter now.
To our friends, the news has come as a mixed bag. Lots of the guys knew how Trey felt, (well except his best friend) and so they weren't all that shocked he'd claimed Calliope. The girls were all ecstatic when they showed up to school this morning and Cal showed off her pretty star mark. Their bond still isn't complete, but once she's 18 they will be sealed together!
Trey hasn't been able to stay away from her all weekend! But Hestia is smart, she wont let him stay over. I don't think she's ready to be a grandma yet, and the lack of restraint pouring off my brother, it's a smart idea!
I look over at Phoebe and her twin brother Knox before tearing my eyes away from him. I try not to look, but it's like he's a magnet and my eyes are unwilling to look away from his gorgeous body. But it's not just is body, it's really all of him. To say he's charismatic is an understatement. The guy is smooth and charming! Which is probably why there isn't a girl in a hundred miles radius that he hasn't charmed into bed.
Cal got lucky. She ended up with Trey. Trey didn't want anyone else but her. He never dated or anything... He said it if wasn't her, then he didn't want her. But it seemed to have worked out well for both of them.
Me... That's a different story. There is no way our resident Thunder bird will ever take notice of me.
Knox has silver hair and blue tips, the same color as his eyes. His skin is all tanned and muscled... He's also a major player. Probably not as bad as Jaxx though. Actually, come to think about it, it's a toss up. I'm only saying that because Jaxx now has a 'girlfriend'... even though I think she's more of his play thing.
I'm pretty sure he doesn't love her, but the skank can't seem to keep her hands to herself, so he just keeps her. It's sad, really. Jaxx could do so much better than Cassie. No one can actually see why the guy keeps her around.
Honestly no one knows why, but Cassie has a grudge against Selene. Who the hell could hold a grudge against her? Selene tolerates her, but Phoebe volunteered to beat her up if she gets too much for her. I swear if anyone could do it, it would be my girl Phoebe! The girl is fierce, especially when protecting those she cares about.
Chloe suggested accidentally falling a tree onto her brand new Corvette, and Selene laughed like she thought she was kidding. Chloe was dead serious! None of us can stand the bitch, and when she makes fun of Selene, telling her she's not good enough to keep a man's attention even the most mellow of us wants to strangle her!
And poor Calliope! She has to put up with her more than any of us, seeing as it's her brother who is attached to the skank. I have no idea how many times Cal has begged her brother to ditch the bitch and find anyone else. But so far, its a no-go.
I look over at the new happy couple and sigh, before I bump her with my shoulder. "I'm so happy for you guys," I whisper. And I really am. They make the cutest couple ever! If only the rest of us could be so lucky...
She blushes. Of course she does. She's never been so happy in her life. And I would know! We've basically grown up together from diapers all the way to high school. Even our moms are best friends. I guess it was just Fate that brought them together.
"Thanks Dia. You are the best!" she giggles pulling me into a hug. I love this girl! She deserves to be happy after so many years of thinking she wasn't worthy of the idiot. Seriously! He should've told her! He could've saved so much heart ache.
"Just don't try to make me an auntie before school gets out," I wink at her. And then double over at her tomato red face. Not that I would actually mind being an auntie right now. I'd totally spoil them to death! But I have a feeling Cal doesn't want to end up a teen mom quite yet.
"Nadi, don't go messing with my girl! Now she'll never let me touch her," Trey sulks, pulling her into his lap and kissing the top of her head. I watch as she hides her face into his chest and he glares at me. So cute! I plan on doing this all the time now that they are out in the open about their relationship!
I just laugh even more. I know how hard it is for him to keep his hands off her, and he also knows he won't touch her until her birthday, but I really like messing with them. My bestie and brother are both virgins, which I think is awesome! It will be special for them to bond together... Unlike anyone who ends up with Knox and Jaxx who have been with countless girls... Speaking of...
"I'd better not be an uncle for years!" Jaxx grumbles across the table, glaring at his sister and my brother, like he can control the two of them. He can't. He'll just have to deal and get over it.
"Dude! You're one to talk! How long have you been screwing Cassie? Trey's barely touched your sister!" Knox jokes, elbowing the guy in the gut.
Well, it's not really a joke. It's the truth. Everybody knows it. It's not like Jaxx keeps anything secret from us. I'm not big on the overhearing, but whatever. As long as I'm not the middle of high school gossip, I'm good. I guess Jaxx doesn't care any more because he graduated last year.
"Yeah, but this is different!" Jaxx argues. He looks around the lunch table for anyone who seems to agree with him, but he's gonna have to look elsewhere because none of us will help him out. This is NOT different. Trey loves Calliope. Jaxx doesn't love Cassie, but they've been together way too long. He doesn't get to boss his sister around, or I'll put laxatives in his coffee!
"Really? How? Actually, I'm surprised you haven't gotten your little miss pregnant by now. Calliope should be concerned you will be making her an aunt!" Levi retorts.
Leave it to Levi to lay it out like it is. He doesn't mince words. He'd actually be really good on a debate team, with his level head. He doesn't seem to let things get to him. The guy is super smart, and he really cares about his sister... Which might be why he can't stand Cassie. He hates it when she hurts Selene. He and Jaxx have had words... often!
"I'm not that stupid! I know what I'm doing!" Jaxx snarls, getting all defensive now. I really hope we don't end up with a big fight all because Jaxx has a big mouth and Levi likes to provoke him. I'm pretty sure loyalties would be split down the middle.
"Okay, and you don't trust Trey to know what he's doing? The guy's waited for her for years! By the way, I'm proud of you man! I don't know if I could do it," Knox fist bumps Trey. He looks really happy for Trey.
"Thanks. Maybe when you find someone you love enough, you will learn a little bit of restraint yourself," Trey jokes.
Knox turns red. "I don't know if I'll ever be as lucky as you," he admits.
My heart stumbles just a little bit. I know he would never want me. He wouldn't even consider me an option! I'm a fairy and he's a shifter... It would never work. But a girl could dream, can't she? And I do love to dream...
To be honest, I'm surprised at how well Cal and T are working together. Calliope is a witch, and Trey is a fairy like me. But somehow, they seem to fit together... It's almost like their magic has merged together, creating a stronger bond. I'm not sure how it works. I should probably ask Mom. She's good with stuff like this.
I can only hope I find someone who fits me like that.
I drag my eyes away from Knox and they land on his sister, who gives me a funny look. I'm not sure why, I wasn't doing anything, just sad about the thought he may never fall in love. I want to ask what Phoebe is thinking, but I also don't want the whole table to question me right now.
I sigh and place my chin in my hand as I watch my friends eat their lunch. I've suddenly lost my appetite.
