Chapter One: Before the Fire

Before the war, the city of Nuriyah gleamed like a jewel beneath the desert sun. Golden domes and white minarets pierced the sky, echoing the call to prayer that rolled gently over the sandstone walls. It was a city of peace, ruled with wisdom and justice by King Salim, a beloved leader, known not just for his power but for his deep devotion to Allah and mercy to the poor.

In the heart of the palace, Princess Zaynah, the king’s only daughter, lived a life of purpose, not luxury. Though surrounded by silks and servants, Zaynah spent her mornings memorizing the Qur’an, her afternoons helping in the palace kitchens during Ramadan, and her nights standing in prayer beside her mother and sisters. Her beauty was only outshone by her character—gentle, intelligent, and fiercely devoted to her faith.

During Ramadan, the palace turned into a haven of worship and community. As the sun set, dates and water were passed around for iftar. The king himself would sit on the floor beside beggars and travelers, feeding them with his own hands. No one was turned away. Every evening was filled with the sweet recitation of Qur’an, lanterns glowing in every corner, and hearts softened by prayer and charity.

Zaynah loved these nights most of all. Not for the food or festivity, but for the way people came together, rich and poor alike, under one banner: submission to Allah. She watched her father donate his finest horses and weapons to those in need. Her mother organized food for entire villages. And Zaynah herself walked through the streets of Nuriyah with baskets of bread and coins, smiling at every child, helping every widow.

On Eid, the city came alive. The masjids overflowed with worshippers dressed in their finest. After prayer, people hugged, forgave old grudges, and visited their neighbors with sweets and gifts. Zaynah wore a flowing white dress stitched with golden thread and helped hand out clothes and toys to orphans in the courtyard. There were no walls between people that day—only open hearts.

The people of Nuriyah were taught from childhood:“The best among you are those who are most beneficial to others.”And Zaynah lived that teaching daily.

But peace, as it often does, came under threat.

Whispers of invasion stirred the wind. Rumors of a brutal swordsman from the northern empire—cold, cruel, and godless—spread like smoke. Zaynah’s heart, so used to love and compassion, could not understand such hatred. Why would anyone seek to destroy a land so full of light?

Little did she know... destiny was already moving.
